He tried to move faster, but he could not find the way out of the bushes. He was getting tired because Dot was too heavy to carry for a young boy. At last he came into an open space with a large pool in the middle. "Look, I've found some water, Dot!" Tom shouted. While Dot was drinking, Tom looked around and found a hole in the rocks nearby. He quickly made his clothes and Dot's wet, for the approaching smoke could choke them, and then the two children hid in the shelter, waiting for the fire to pass. When Mr. Carr came back to the yard, he was told that the two kids got lost. He immediately ran out to search for them. Mr. May ran after him. They soon found the footprints of the children and followed them into the bushes. They both felt afraid because a big fire had just passed through the bushes. "Poor children, the fire could have burnt them to death!" thought Mr. Carr worriedly. While they walked on without hope, there came a sweet voice. "Mr. Carr!" It was from Dot, who was being carried by Tom. "Thank goodness, you are safe!" Mr. Carr jumped with joy and hugged the brave kids.
