的连贯性。情节是对人类生活的创造性模仿,如果其中的结果与理由互相印证,我们就会觉得它有意义;
how。

I was in Philadelphia for a conference when I saw an ad in the hotel. A nearby theater was showing a
documentary (纪录片) about several local animal shelters that were helping to save abandoned dogs across the
country. I love animals, and I felt an urge to go to this fundraising event. However, none of my co-workers would
go with me, and I was worried about walking on the street alone at night.
I resigned myself to spending the evening in my hotel room, but as soon as I got back to my room I felt
restless and bored. The theater where the event was taking place was only about five blocks from the hotel, and the
area around the hotel didn’t seem particularly dangerous. So, I decided to brave it. I gathered up my wallet and
room key and set off.
It was already getting dark and the streets were nearly deserted. I managed to find the street the theater was on,
but when I turned the corner, I stopped in shock. In front of the theater were a group of bikers — very big, tough-
looking bikers.
I’ve known lots of motorcycle enthusiasts and most are nice people. However, in this case, I was a woman all
alone, in a strange neighborhood, at night, and there were twenty or so very large men — all wearing insignia (徽
章) that indicated they were in some sort of club — standing before me. Warning bells began to sound in my head,
and my heart was pounding. Was I at the right theater? Had I misread the date of the event?
A sign outside the theater told me that I was in the right place on the right evening. Nevertheless, I wondered if
I should rush back to my hotel instead of walking through that crowd of bikers. I finally decided that I would be
safer inside the theater. Hopefully, the bikers would have gone away by the time the film was over.
注意:
(1) 续写词数应为150个左右;
I hurried into the theater, only to find there were even more bikers inside.

I met Gunter on a cold, wet and unforgettable evening in September. I had planned to fly to Vienna and take a
bus to Prague for a conference. Due to a big storm, my flight had been delayed by an hour and a half. I touched
down in Vienna just 30 minutes before the departure of the last bus to Prague. The moment I got off the plane, I ran
like crazy through the airport building and jumped into the first taxi on the rank without a second thought.
That was when I met Gunter. I told him where I was going, but he said he hadn't heard of the bus station. I
thought my pronunciation was the problem, so I explained again more slowly, but he still looked confused. When I
was about to give up, Gunter fished out his little phone and rang up a friend. After a heated discussion that lasted
for what seemed like a century, Gunter put his phone down and started the car.
Finally, with just two minutes to spare we rolled into the bus station. Thankfully, there was a long queue (队
列) still waiting to board the bus. Gunter parked the taxi behind the bus, turned around, and looked at me with a big
smile on his face. "We made it," he said.
Just then I realised that I had zero cash in my wallet. I flashed him an apologetic smile as I pulled out my
Portuguese bankcard. He tried it several times, but the card machine just did not play along. A feeling of
helplessness washed over me as I saw the bus queue thinning out.
At this moment, Gunter pointed towards the waiting hall of the bus station. There, at the entrance, was a cash
machine. I jumped out of the car, made a mad run for the machine, and popped my card in, only to read the
message: "Out of order. Sorry."

Eva spent the first week of high school trying to keep her head above water. One of the major headaches for
her was finding her way in the huge school building. It was a six-story building. On each floor, hallways stretched
in four directions, leading to classrooms, laboratories, and teachers’ offices. Somewhere in the building, there was
also a library, a cafeteria, and a gym.Having a poor sense of direction, Eva found it impossible to get around in such a huge building. All the
different hallways and rooms were too much to think about, let alone commit to memory. She decided that she
would memorize where her classes were and then pretend that the rest of the place didn’t exist.
In her first PE class, Eva was shocked when Coach Pitt announced that everyone had to run one mile around
the track outside. She searched the faces of her classmates for signs of panic. There was nothing she feared more
than having to run a whole mile. To Eva, “a mile” was used to describe long distances. It was ten miles from her
home to her grandfather’s, and that always seemed like a long way, even in a car!
When Coach Pitt blew his whistle (哨子), Eva figured she would be left in the dust. However, while some of
her classmates edged ahead, others actually fell behind. ” It’s just the beginning, “she thought. “I’ll come in last for
sure. ”
Soon Eva began to breathe hard, with her heart pounding and legs shaking. Feeling desperate, Eva started
using a mind trick on herself. She stopped thinking about the word” mile. “Instead, she focused on reaching the
shadow cast on the track by an oak tree up ahead. Then she concentrated on jogging to the spot where the track
curved (拐弯). After that, she tried to see if she could complete her first lap. One lap turned into two, then three,
then four.

When I was in middle school, my social studies teacher asked me to enter a writing contest. I said no without
thinking. I did not love writing. My family came from Brazil, so English was only my second language. Writing
was so difficult and painful for me that my teacher had allowed me to present my paper on the sinking of the
Titanic by acting out a play, where I played all the parts. No one laughed harder than he did.
So, why did he suddenly force me to do something at which I was sure to fail? His reply: “Because I love your
stories. If you’re willing to apply yourself, I think you have a good shot at this.” Encouraged by his words, I agreedto give it a try.
I chose Paul Revere’s horse as my subject. Paul Revere was a silversmith (银匠) in Boston who rode a horse at
night on April 18, 1775 to Lexington to warn people that British soldiers were coming. My story would come
straight from the horse’s mouth. Not a brilliant idea, but funny; and unlikely to be anyone else’s choice.
What did the horse think, as he sped through the night? Did he get tired? Have doubts? Did he want to quit? I
sympathized immediately. I got tired. I had doubts. I wanted to quit. But, like Revere’s horse, I kept going. I
worked hard. I checked my spelling. I asked my older sister to correct my grammar. I checked out a half dozen
books on Paul Revere from the library. I even read a few of them.
When I handed in the essay to my teacher, he read it, laughed out loud, and said, “Great. Now, write it again.”
I wrote it again, and again and again. When I finally finished it, the thought of winning had given way to the
enjoyment of writing. If I didn’t win, I wouldn’t care.

It was the day of the big cross-country run. Students from seven different primary schools in and around the
small town were warming up and walking the route(路线)through thick evergreen forest.
I looked around and finally spotted David, who was standing by himself off to the side by a fence. He was
small for ten years old. His usual big toothy smile was absent today. I walked over and asked him why he wasn’t
with the other children. He hesitated and then said he had decided not to run.
What was wrong? He had worked so hard for this event!
I quickly searched the crowd for the school’s coach and asked him what had happened. “I was afraid that kids
from other schools would laugh at him,” he explained uncomfortably. “I gave him the choice to run or not, and let
him decide.”
I bit back my frustration(懊恼). I knew the coach meant well—he thought he was doing the right thing. Aftermaking sure that David could run if he wanted, I turned to find him coming towards me, his small body rocking
from side to side as he swung his feet forward.
David had a brain disease which prevented him from walking or running like other children, but at school his
classmates thought of him as a regular kid. He always participated to the best of his ability in whatever they were
doing. That was why none of the children thought it unusual that David had decided to join the cross-country team.
It just took him longer—that’s all. David had not missed a single practice, and although he always finished his run
long after the other children, he did always finish. As a special education teacher at the school, I was familiar with
the challenges David faced and was proud of his strong determination.

I needed to do something in my community (社区) in order to complete the community service hours required
to graduate from high school. Some of my friends had signed up to spend time at a soup kitchen, so I did, too. It
seemed like a good thing to do.
I thought that we would just be passing out dinners to those in need, but I found out we would be doing
everything from preparing to serving the dinner. We began preparing the food, from mixing salad dressing to
separating frozen meat. Much still needed to be done before dinner was served, but already outside the building
many homeless people were gathering. It wasn’t until a couple of hours later that we opened the doors and began
serving dinner.
As the line of people came toward me, I got a little scared. I’d come face to face with the homeless: How
should I act? How would they treat me? Would they hate me for having more than they did? While some of the
people looked very friendly, some of them looked so dangerous. I didn’t have too much time to worry about it. I
was assigned (分配) to serve the salad with the lady next to me. She smiled at me and said if I needed help, she’d
be right there, which I found quite comforting.
I had never seen so many people wanting food. They were of all ages and nationalities. Most of them wore
clothes that were torn and dirty. Some looked like they had tally given up on life, while others seemed to be making
the best of the situation, smiling and joking. Some were better off than others, but they all needed a good meal and
a warm place to eat. It saddened me to think of how many people there were who didn’t have a place to call homeand the only food they got came from a soup kitchen.

A young man was driving home one evening on a two-lane (道) country road. Work in this small mid-
western community was almost as slow as his old car, and he didn’t know whether to look for it or not. Ever since
the factory closed, he’d been unemployed, and with winter coming on, the cold had finally hit home.
It was starting to get dark and light snow was coming down. He’d better get a move on. Then he saw an old
lady trapped on the side of the road. But even in the dim (昏暗的) light of day, he could see she needed help. So he
pulled up in front of her car and got out.
Even with the smile on his face, she was worried. No one had stopped to help for the last hour or so. Was he
going to hurt her? He didn’t look safe and seemed jobless. He looked poor and hungry. He could see that she was
frightened, standing out there in the cold. He knew how she felt. He said, “I’m here to help you, Ma’ am. Why don’t
you wait in the car where it’s warm? By the way, my name is Bryan. ” The lady felt a little relieved after hearing
what Bryan said. She got in her car and thought maybe he was helping for money.
Bryan found all she had was a flat tire, but for an old lady, that was bad enough. He crawled (爬) under the
car looking for a place to put the jack (千斤顶) , cutting his finger a time or two. Soon he was able to change the
tire. But he had to get dirty and his hands were hurt. As he was doing the work, she rolled down the window and

In a lively city, there was a small bookstore hidden between two tall buildings. It wasn’t the most attractive
place, but it had an undeniable charm. The owner, David, had inherited (继承) the store from his grandfather. Every
day, he opened its creaky (吱嘎的) doors and greeted his customers with a smile, even though his heart was heavy.
David had been struggling with his business for months. Online stores had taken over the market, and fewer
people walked into his store. He had always believed in the magic of physical books, but with bills piling up and
his savings running low, he was beginning to lose hope.
One rainy afternoon, as David sat behind the counter, staring at the closed sign on the door, a young woman
entered. Her name was Sophie, and she was new to the city. She had heard about the bookstore from a friend and
decided to check it out.
Sophie wandered through the passages, running her fingers along the spines of the books. There was
something warm and comforting about the place — despite its worn-out shelves and faded sign outside. After a
while, she picked up a book on gardening — a topic she had recently become passionate about — and brought it to
the counter. David greeted her, still burdened by his worries.
“You seem like you’re really into gardening,” he said softly.
Sophie smiled. “Yes, it’s been such a peaceful escape for me lately.”
David rang up the book and said, “I hope it helps you grow your garden. Plants are like people. They need
care, but they can really bloom if you give them the right environment.”
Before leaving with the book, Sophie turned to him. “There’s something special about this place. I hope you
keep it open for a long time.”
David watched as she stepped out into the rain, her smile lingering (萦绕) in his mind. That night, for the
first time in weeks, he didn’t feel the heavy weight of worry. Instead, he thought about Sophie’s words. Maybe it
wasn’t about making the store bigger or more popular. Maybe it was about creating an environment where people
felt welcomed — and that was enough to keep going.

Jack was a high school freshman, tall and thin, with a heart full of dreams. Jack’s father was a repairman
who spent his days fixing cars, so his hands were always dirty. Jack’s father never said much, but his eyes always
seemed to say, “I’m proud of you, son.” And Jack felt it in every nod. Their relationship was a quiet one, with an
unspoken bond (纽带).
One day, Jack came home from school with a flyer (传单) in his hand. His eyes were bright with excitement
as he showed it to his father. “Dad, there’s a school talent show next month, and I want to enter. I’ve been learning
guitar for months,” Jack said to his father.
His father looked up from the engine he was working on. “You play the guitar?” he asked in surprise. Feeling
a little embarrassed, Jack nodded, saying, “Yeah, I’ve been taking lessons. I think I’m ready.” His father cleaned his
hands with a piece of cloth, looked at Jack and smiled, “I’ll be there, son. I wouldn’t miss it.” Through his father’s
eyes, Jack knew he had his father’s support.
The days leading up to the talent show were more practice and anxiety for Jack. He would come home after
school and lock himself in his room, the sound of his guitar echoing (回响) through the house. His father didn’t
speak too much, but he would prepare delicious food and smiled at Jack whenever he saw his son. He would also
quietly listen to the music from the living room. Although Jack felt tired or nervous sometimes, he felt pushed
forward by unspoken love.
The day of the talent show arrived, and the school hall was filled with excitement. Jack’s hands were shaking
as he prepared his guitar backstage. He looked out into the audience and found his father with a broad smile on his
face.

when Mohi rushed into the classroom. Having recovered from his initial shock, the teacher turned around to face
the rest of the students. Gradually, the laughter died out.
“Sorry,” Mohi said quickly and hurried to his seat.
Mohi was jokingly called “little Einstein” by his classmates, because he was so absent-minded that he rarely
showed up with appropriate clothing. Today, he wore a pair of funny green shoes that were too big for his feet. And
his half-buttoned shirt revealed a very silly red underwear. Actually, Mohi’s classmates always looked forward to
such moments that helped to brighten up their otherwise boring school life.
Although his classmates found Mohi amusing, they ignored him most of the time. And Mohi seemed too
absorbed in his own thoughts to care about making friends with them, either. Mohi’s only friend was Hamed, who
sat beside him.
One day, Mohi did not show up at school. After school, Hamed decided to walk over to Mohi’s house to
check on him. As he approached the gate, he could hear violin music. “Mohi has never played music at school,” he
thought. “Maybe, he is listening to a record.”
He called Mohi’s name several times but there was no response. As the gate was not locked, Hamed let
himself in. His eyes widened in surprise: At the center of the living room, Mohi was lost in playing the violin. With
his eyes tightly closed, Mohi played so beautifully that the music seemed like coming from a classic record.
“Maybe I could find an opportunity for Mohi to show his talent and be appreciated more by the rest of the
class,” Hamed thought.

“The adventure race is starting in five minutes, everyone! Please get ready!” the teacher announced
cheerfully. On a Saturday morning, I was stretching and warming up with the rest of my teammates as the cool
morning breeze brushed against my skin. My school had planned an adventure race for my level and we were
required to take pictures of our surroundings with a camera during the race.
Before I knew it, the adventure race was starting as teams started gathering at the checkpoints. It was not
long before the sound of the whistle was heard. Determinedly, my team members, Irene, Jennie and Lucas started
venturing out in the forest. Walking purposefully onto the path of the forest, we took numerous photographs of thegreenery around us. Not too long after, we started feeling anxious as we could no longer see any trees that were
marked, indicating that we lost the path we were supposed to follow.
Finding ourselves in a fix, we were worried about how we were going to get back on track and were
panicking. “Perhaps... we can look through the photographs we took to see our previous location,” Jennie suggested
while holding the camera. Needless to say, we readily agreed to her idea and started looking through the pictures.
Little did we know that “someone” was stealthily spying us. Out of nowhere, our camera was suddenly taken away!
Apparently nobody was there and we stood in shocked silence, feeling thunderstruck.
Just then, I heard the rustling (沙沙声) of trees. Confused, I looked up at the trees. Then, I saw it! A flash
appeared on one of the tree branches, and I gestured my teammates to keep quiet. I was astonished by the sight that
greeted me. A monkey was holding up our camera on the tree.
