The US writer, J.D. Salinger (1919-2010), was one of the most influential(有影响力的) writers of the last
century. His writing is popular with all age groups, but young people are especially big fans of his.
The reason he has such a following is undoubtedly because of his novel, The Catcher in the Rye(《麦田里 的
守望者》), which was published in 1951. The hero of this story is named Holden Caulfield. Holden is a
troublemaker at school and has difficulty fitting in with others, whether they are adults or people of his own age.
However, Holden has a heart of gold. Many readers have been moved by the protective attitude he has toward
young children, especially his little sister Phoebe. Millions of people all over the world have taken the troubled 17-
year-old Holden into their hearts.
Salinger didn’t actually write that much in his life. Besides The Catcher in the Rye, he published only a few
other shorter works, and then, after 1965, nothing at all. The reason for this seems to be that he hated publicity(关
注). He had become famous with the success of this novels and didn’t care for the fame(名望). He refused to giveinterviews and did not allow anyone to write his biography(自传). He came to hate publicity so much that he
stopped publishing his writing.

A. Because he hates getting much attention.
B. Because his short novels were not successful.
C. Because some people didn’t like his writing.

A. He stopped writing after 1965.
B. He didn’t allow anyone to write biography for him.
C. He wrote eight novels in total.

China has completed its BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (北斗卫星导航系统), or BDS. It becomes a new
system in the world with a global navigation network (全球导航网络). The other three systems are GPS of the US,
GLONASS of Russia and Galileo of the European Union.
As the name suggests, the global navigation satellite system provides navigation and location services 24
hours a day. As we know, building a good satellite system costs a lot. Besides, the other systems have been set up.
Why does China have a new one if there is nothing special?
The other three systems have 24 satellites. China’s BDS has six more satellites. What’s special about these six
satellites is that they have a relatively fixed area of activity. This can improve BDS’ accuracy (精准度) in China
and the Asia-Pacific region to 5 meters, compared with a 10-meter accuracy in other areas.
BDS has another advantage-the short message service. It allows users to have a two-way communication. In
areas that are not covered by communication signals (信号), users can send short messages. Even in uninhabited
areas, such as deserts, forests, mountainous and polar areas, BDS can also make the short message service
available. With this service, users who are in danger can tell the rescue team (救援队) their location and condition.
As the most populous country, it’s important for China to have its own global navigation satellite system to
meet the needs of the country’s development. In fact, BDS is also good business. According to the official report,China’s satellite industry has kept a 20% yearly growth since 2012. And BDS contributes about 80% of it. In
addition, BDS has also created countless high-paying jobs. And with continuous improvement, it will have much
more to offer in the future.
51. Which one is the global navigation satellite system of China?
A. BDS. B. GPS of the US. C. GLONASS of Russia.
52. How many satellites does BeiDou-3 have in total?

53. What does the underlined word “uninhabited” mean in Paragraph 4?

Now students’ English handwriting gets worse and worse. That makes their teachers feel worried. Is your
English handwriting beautiful? If not, here are four steps that really work!
5 6 Using paper that has lines can keep you writing straight when you write English words or
sentences. Those lines on the paper can help you to write words in the right size.
5 7 If your writing is hard to read, slow down a little. For some kids, going slower makes the
handwriting clear. If you write too fast, it’s hard for you to stop where you should, and even worse, you may make
more mistakes.
5 8 When you hold your pencil in the correct way, writing is much easier. Some kids press (按,压)
down really hard when they write. That makes the handwriting not nice. Relax yourself, don’t hold the pencil so
hard.
5 9 Drawing can improve your handwriting. You need to use the skills to control your pencil better
when you are drawing pictures.
6 0 Handwriting is very important. Imagine you are a world-famous movie star or a well-known
sports player, what do you do when your fans run up to you?
Choose the best topic from A to F according to the passage.
A.Slow down.
B.Hold your pencil right.
C.Use paper with lines.
D.Draw more pictures
