There is always a long list of new words in my book that I have never learned before. It's a hard job for me to remember the spelling of them and even the Chinese meanings. Therefore, I can't understand what the English teacher says in class.I get worried and afraid that I will fall behind on English. Could you help me, please? Best wishes! That night, Tim could barely sleep. He kept thinking about what Sam had said and the sad faces of his classmates when he had nicknamed them. Early the next morning, Tim made a decision: he would change. When he got to the classroom, Lisa was reading a book. Instead of saying “Big Glasses”, Tim said politely, “Hi, Lisa.” Lisa looked up, surprised. Then Mike came in, and Tim greeted him, “Morning, Mike.” Mike was also shocked. Tim took a deep breath before saying to both of them, “I’m sorry for giving you bad nicknames before. I won’t do that anymore.” 17. After Tim apologized, something nice happened. Lisa smiled and said, “It’s okay, Tim. We’re glad you realized that.” Mike nodded and added, “Yeah, let’s be friends again.” Soon, other classmates heard about Tim’s apology. During the break, some students came to talk to Tim. They chatted about homework and hobbies. Tim felt happy because he was no longer lonely. Day by day, Tim always called his classmates by their real names. He also learned to care about others’ feelings. In the end, Tim built a positive and respectful relationship with his classmates, and he truly understood the importance of mutual respect. 00′2″ M: Hello. International Friends Club. Can I help you? W: Oh, hello. I read about your club in the paper today and I thought I’d phone to find out a bit more. M: Yes, certainly, well, we’re a sort of social club for people from different countries. It’s quite a new club — we have about 50 members at the moment, but we’re growing all the time. W: That sounds interesting. M: Excuse me, can you tell me how much the shirt is? W: Yes, it’s nine fifteen. (Text 1) M: I’m only working three days a week now. How many days do you work at the store, Jenny? W: Usually Monday through Friday, but sometimes I work on Saturday too. (Text 2) M: Was everything all right? W: Yes, it was wonderful. I especially liked the dessert. M: It is one of our specialties. W: May I have the check, please? (Text 3) M: Penny, I don’t know how to set up the wireless printer. W: Well, you do need to run the set-up program before you can print from your laptop. Have a look at the instructions. Here they are.(Text 4) W: How long have you been in this area? M: We moved here five years ago. Before that, we were in a very small office building in the center of town. W: And when was the company set up? M: Ten years ago, by our boss Simon Donna. (Text 5) W: Excuse me. I was just wondering where you bought that. M: This sandwich? Just down the road at the cafe. W: OK. Thanks. I’ll go and get one myself. (Text 6) W: What are you doing this weekend? M: I’m going to the flower festival with my parents. You’re going to the music festival then, aren’t you? I heard they’ve got some fantastic bands this year and are expecting thousands of visitors! W: Yes, that’s right. My friend’s father is organizing the event, so we’ve got free tickets. M: Lucky you! W: Yes, but we’ve both got to help. My friend’s got to check tickets. He’s asked me to take photos, and I don’t mind doing that. (Text 7) W: Did you see that documentary, Nature Watch, last night? M: I did. I wouldn’t want to miss anything from that series. I didn’t think it was as good as last week’s one on elephants, though. W: I actually find dolphins much more interesting, so I thought last night’s one was better. The next one’s about bears, which should be great. M: Yeah, I can’t wait. There is one problem with the series though. W: Oh, what’s that? M: I really can’t find any problem with the camera work, but I think whoever wrote the music shouldn’t be asked to do it for a nature series again. It’s a bit annoying, especially when I try to focus on the story. (Text 8) M: Sally, tell me something about your gap year. W: Oh, well, my gap year was very different from yours! I decided to stay at home and work. M: Oh, why did you decide to do that? W: Actually, I had to. My family are not rich, so I had to work to pay for my university courses. M: And did you enjoy that? W: Hmm, it was OK. The pay was not that good, and the work itself was not creative, but I got on well with the people I worked with. So, do you feel a gap year is a good thing? M: Yes! It was a great chance to see the world before I went to university.W: You’re lucky, Rob! (Text 9) W: So, I’ve decided to make a wish list like I was telling you. I’ve put down some ideas, but now I can’t think of anything else. Any ideas? M: Have you ever been on a hot-air balloon ride? W: No, I haven’t. M: It’s really fun — you get great views of the city and the countryside. You should definitely add it to your list. W: Right, OK, hot-air balloon ride. M: Have you thought about joining a drama club? You could perform in a play. W: Well, that’s a challenge! I’ve never performed in a play. Anything else? M: Here’s another idea. Have you ever been to a film festival? W: No, I’ve never done that, but I’d like to. M: And here’s another one. I know you care about animals. Why don’t you start a local group to raise money for wildlife? W: Yes, that’s something I’ve always wanted to do. (Text 10) M: Good morning, everyone. If you ask me which city I really want to visit, it’s Rome, the capital of Italy. It’s a city that has always attracted me because of its culture. I’m particularly interested in its architecture since it has examples from all major European styles of building. Besides, it was the capital of the Roman Empire, so it has a wonderful collection of public buildings from that time. What I think is great about Rome is that many of the beautiful and historic buildings are still in use, as galleries, public offices and even houses. They are not all locked up as museums, so it’s really living history there. Even though it’s an expensive city to stay in, I’d like to go there for at least a month, as there’s so much to see and do. During my time there, I’d have to be careful that I didn’t spend too much on Roman food! Plus, I’d like to find a cheap hotel. It would probably be in the centro storico, the old center of the city, probably within walking distance of the River Tevere. Most visitors to Rome would agree that it is a very special place but for me, it’s Europe’s most historic and romantic city.
