A lied and hungry wolf walked slowly into a quiet farm. He saw a pig, a duck and a cow
reading in the sun. He suddenly jumped to the farm animals with a loud sound—
“Aaaoooooo!”. But they didn’t run for their lives.
Cow: What is that awful noise? I can’t pay attention to my book!
Duck: Don’t take any notice of it!
Wolf: How stupid you are! Can’t you see I’m a big and dangerous wolf?
Pig: I’m sure you are, but couldn’t you be big and dangerous somewhere else? We’re trying
to read. This is a farm for educated animals!
Wolf: Educated animals? This is something new. Well then! I’ll learn how to read too.
The wolf went off to school. The children found it strange to have a wolf in their class,
but since he didn’t try to eat anyone, they soon got used to him. After much effort the wolf
learned to read and write. Then he went back to the farm.
Wolf: open his book and begin to read. Run, wolf? Run! See wolf run...
Pig: Not bad, but you still need to work on your pronunciation. You’ve got a long way to
go!
The farm animals went on reading their own books, not the least showing any interest in
what the wolf read. But the wolf wasn’t about to give up. He ran straight to the public library,
reading day and night. Then he went back to the farm again.
Wolf: (take out his new book and begin to read) Long long ago, in a small town
Duck: This is so much fun!

Embrace Again, a movie describing love between ordinary people during the COVID-19
lockdown in Wuhan, Hubei Province, focuses on the ordinary people in our daily life, making
the movie more real and closer to life.
The movie is heartwarming, reflecting the ordinary people of Wuhan during the
epidemic(疫情). The main character of Embrace Again is A Yong, which has archetype in
real life. Wang Yong, who is described as the character of Moving China in 2021, is a
deliveryman and volunteer in Wuhan. He takes the responsibility of transporting medical
workers and medical equipment. Although he’s initially afraid of the virus, righteousness and
goodness pushes him to participate in the anti-epidemic war.
Xue Xiaolu, the female director, catches more importance to the value of female in the
anti-epidemic war. The film presents more from a woman’s point of view. Wu Ge, the femalefood delivery driver, works very hard and participates with the team of volunteers. The doctor
Xie has retired but still insists on going to the frontline.
Embrace Again took me back to the winter when COVID-19 broke out. I still remember
the empty shelves of the supermarket in my hometown. It was not only because people were
on holiday during Spring Festival, but also because the epidemic affected the transportation
of goods. Buying so much instant noodles, rice and so on made almost everyone nervous.
Everyone wore masks and fought against the virus.
Embrace Again also shows us the meaning of life and death. The epidemic is scary, but
the love can make people face the fear. COVID-19 is frightening, many people sacrificed.
However, new life also grew. So, embrace and cherish the people who are with you now!

(2022·四川·双流中学模拟预测)
Confucius (551-479 BC), one of the most important Chinese philosophers (哲学家),
lived during the Spring and Autumn Period (770-476 BC). After all these years, his influenceis still strong in modern times.
Unlike the abstract philosophy of Laozi, Confucian ideas about right and wrong are easy
to understand and apply to daily life. “It’s all about the everyday. It’s all about family,” Roger
Ames, a Confucius expert at Peking University, told China Daily.
For example, many Chinese learn at an early age to “be filial to parents and respectful to
brothers” (入则孝,出则悌). Confucius believed that if everyone knows how to love their
families, they will know how to love others, love their country, and love the world.
“Don’t do to others what you don’t want others to do to you” is the favorite Confucius
doctrine (信条) of Guo Jiulin, a professor at Dalian Minzu University. “It reminds me that if a
person wants to fulfill (实现) his social ambitions (抱负), he must first be strict with himself
in words and deeds,” he told China Daily.
Another important Confucian idea is he, or harmony (和谐). Sun Yiting, a student from
Zhejiang University, values it. “It reminds me to calm down when I get angry,” she said. “It
reminds me to put myself in others’ shoes. This way of thinking makes my life much
happier.”
Confucian ideas can even be applied to today’s global problems, according to Ames.
“Confucius believed that the only way I can take my stand is by helping other people
take theirs (己欲立而立人,己欲达而达人). If my neighbor does better, I do better. That’s
the Confucian wisdom. This is really needed in the world today,” said Ames.

A.the harmony of human and nature B.love for the countryC.
family
37.What does the underlined “This” in the last paragraph refer to?
A.The understanding between people.
B.The spirit of helping one another.
C.The wisdom of being respectful to brothers.
38.What can you infer from the passage?
A.People may find it difficult to understand the philosophy of Laozi.
B.Guo Jiulin believes that those who are strict with themselves will never fail.
C.Sun Yiting values “he” a lot because she used to get angry easily.
39.Tom is a primary school student who can’t get on well with his family. Which of the
following is the most helpful for him?
A.“Be filial to parents and respectful to brothers.”B.“Don’t do to others what you don’t want others to do to you.”
C.“The only way I can take my stand is by helping other people take theirs.”
40.What’s the writer’s main purpose of writing this article?

(2022·四川南充·三模) Traditionally, baby boys are dressed in blue and baby girls
are dressed in pink. We are taught this as children.
But as you grow up, this idea doesn’t mean much anymore. Take me, for example. Ioften wear pink or purple shirts. In fact, I’m wearing a pink shirt while I write this story!
While children might make fun of a boy wearing a pink shirt, I believe there really are
no rules about what colors a man or woman can wear. That’s how it is in Australia and I’ve
found it to be the case in China as well.
Yes, many men wear plain or even boring clothes in China. But there are many more
who are quite happy to wear lots of creative things. Some men in China and Australia pay as
much attention to their appearance as women. And in China, I always see men taking selfies
(自拍) and posing for photos, just like girls do.
But if you think the idea of boys wearing pink is something new, think again. It isn’t
original at all. Kassia St Clair, the writer of The Secret Lives of Color, said it was very
different in the 19th century. She explains that pink was a color worn by men in the military
(军队). Blue, she says, was the color for girls.
Somehow, over the following 100 years, this got switched (转变) around. But whatever
the story is today, don’t let it stop you from wearing whatever color you want!

(2022·辽宁沈阳·中考真题)Would you try food made of rubbish? When world
leaders got together at the UN for a meeting on climate(气候) change, they had a special
lunch. The food was made from something that most of us would throw away. There was a
salad made of vegetable scraps(剩菜叶). The leaders also had hamburgers made of fruit left
over from juicing.
The UN said this reminded people about food waste and the bad influence it has on
climate change. “Food waste is not often noticed in climate change, and that is shameful
when so many people are in hunger.” said a government secretary.
Most people don’t even realize how much food they throw away every day. Sometimes
they cook too much or they don’t use it in time. Every year more than one-third of all food
produced worldwide goes to waste, according to the UN. Stop the waste, and the whole world
could save $300 billion from wasted food. More importantly, it could also do less harm to the
environment.
Think about a bag of cheese(奶酪). Before we buy it at the store, people have to raise the
cows, deal with the milk, and drive to the shop to sell the cheese. If you throw the cheese
away, you have wasted energy, fuel(燃料) and water, which give out greenhouse gases that
add to global warming.
The UN said if we stop throwing good food away, we could cut down up to 17 milliontons of CO₂. The good of that would be the same as taking one in every four cars off the road.
51.Why did the writer think the lunch was special?
A.Because the vegetables were made into juice.
B.Because the leaders had a salad and hamburgers.
C.Because food was cooked from something thrown away.
D.Because the lunch was prepared with different fresh fruits.
52.What does food waste influence at last?
A.Fuel. B.Cars. C.Cows. D.Climate.
53.What can you infer(推断) from the text?
A.Even small actions can help make our world better.
B.We should buy a bag of cheese from the supermarket.
C.Most people have already paid attention to food waste.
D.Saving food is more important than driving cars less often.
54.Which of the following is the best title of the text?
A.Cheese—Healthy for people B.A meeting—Traditional at the UN

When Goldie Nejat began developing robots in 2005, she spent much of her time
knocking on doors to let people know how her robots worked but few showed interest.
“But now, it’s different,” says Nejat. “People calling from around the world ask when
my robots are going to be ready.”
Nejat’s robots are made to fill an increasing need: care-giving for the old. The population
of the people over age 80 will be 426 million in 2050, three times larger than that now.
Some have worried that care-giving robots might make human interaction (互动) less
and cause more humans to lose their jobs. “But the purpose is to support human care, not to
replace it,” says Brian Scassellati. He has tested robots with different patients, and found that
daily interaction with robots can help children with autism spectrum disorder (自闭症谱系障
碍) improve social skills.
Well, of course, more robots have served the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics. Cleaning
robots can clean 8, 600 square meters of indoor large public areas such as staff area, athlete
area and competition hall. And cleaning robots can adapt (适应) to large-traffic crowds and
continuous (持续的) work. For those who are not wearing masks (口罩) in the area,
reminding robots will come forward to remind them to wear masks. What’s more, delivery
(配送) robots have entered the main media center restaurant, where each dish is made by
robots. After the cooking is completed, the robots will take it to the ordering guests.
As a field grows, scientists try to understand human-robot relationships better. Do robots
offer advantages because they don’t have feelings and don’t give opinions? “One thing is
clear,” Scassellati says. “Many types of robots are quietly serving the people and the need for
that will increase in the future.”

A.Knocking on doors.
B.Taking care of the old.
C.Working in Beijing.
D.Making phone calls.

(2022·江苏常州·中考真题)Researchers are using an underwater drone (无人机) to
get information on carbon dioxide (CO₂) levels in the ocean. It is believed to be the first time
that such a device (装置) has been used purposely to test CO₂ levels.
The device, which the team also calls a glider, is designed to go down to 1,000 meters in
deep ocean areas and can operate for weeks at a time.
The purpose of the research is to provide scientists with data (数据) about how climate
change is influencing the ocean’s chemistry. The self-swimming drone was placed in the Gulf
of Alaska this spring. Reporters from The Associated Press recently joined researchers on a
boat in Alaska’s Resurrection Bay to see the drone in action.
The team says the project could be a major step forward in measuring(测量) the
environmental health of oceans. The scientists are most interested in levels of ocean
acidification(酸性). This happens when CO₂ emissions(排放) in the air make their way into
the ocean. Ocean acidification can harm or kill some kinds of sea life.
Scientists have connected CO₂ emissions with global(全球) warming caused by human
activities.
In a way, oceans have given humans a helping hand by taking in(吸收) some of the CO₂.
If there were no oceans’ uptake, there would be much more CO₂ in the air. This would trap
more of the sun’s heat and further warm the Earth.
“But the problem now is that the ocean is changing its chemistry because of this uptake,”
said team member Claudine Hauri.
One of the best ways to measure ocean acidification is to collect CO₂ measurements.Until now, these collections were mostly done from ships or with devices floating at the
ocean surface or on the ocean floor.
71.What is probably this passage?
A.An advertisement. B.Part of a news report.
C.Part of a science fiction. D.A text from a chemistry textbook.
72.What do we know about a glider?
A.It must be used together with floating devices.
B.It is used to measure ocean acidification.
C.It is used to stop CO₂ from entering the ocean.
D.It is used to measure CO₂ levels in the air.
73.What does the underlined word “uptake” in Paragraph 6 most probably mean?
A.The act of covering an area. B.The act of slowing something down.
C.The act of taking something in. D.The act of killing or harming
something.
74.What is troubling the scientists?
A.The underwater drone can’t swim by itself.
B.The drone can only last one week at a time.
C.Oceans are stopping taking in CO₂ from the air.
D.Too much CO₂ is making its way into oceans.

I joined a band (乐队)as a drummer in my middle school. I thought it would be fun
playing the drum and meeting new friends. At first it was easy, but a month later, it got
difficult. I was the only one who couldn’t keep pace (节奏)with the other players.
Our teacher, Angie, singled me out to keep practicing while everyone else got to relax. I
felt ashamed (羞愧的)as my teammates watched me fail so many times. Finally I got so
tired of practicing that I didn’t care about doing it right.
“Are you giving up on me. Steve?” Angie asked.
“Yes, I am,” I shouted. Angie sent me inside the music room where I cried out. Then she
came in and said. “Don’t be sad. I believe you can make it!” She told me never to give up.
She left me alone and I realized Angie was right—by giving up, I was also giving up on the
team and myself.
With her comfort, I decided to go on practicing. However, I still couldn’t play well.
Knowing my difficulties, my teammates gave me a hand. They spent about three more hours
practicing with me every week. Thanks to their support and help, I began to keep pace with
them. Later, we performed wonderfully in an important show.
In the whole process, I was taught that although we each had our own job to do in a
show, it would take all of us working together to make the show great. I felt accepted and
