Want an affordable family trip from Bengaluru? Mysuru, only 150 km away, is a perfect place.
Day 1 (Friday): Travel and Royal History
Take a train from Bengaluru to Mysuru on Friday morning. It’s cheap and comfortable, costing Rs 600-Rs 800
for a family of four. Enjoy the nice countryside views. When you arrive, go straight to Amba Vilas Palace, home to
the Wadiyar royal family. Built between 1897 and 1912, its big halls, fine carvings and fancy inside are amazing.
Entry fees: Rs 40 per adult, Rs 20 per child (aged 10-18), free for younger kids. Foreign visitors pay Rs 200 (with
an audio guide).
Day 2 (Saturday): Wildlife and Nature
On Saturday, visit Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens, set up in 1892. It’s one of India’s oldest zoos, with
tigers, lions and rare birds. Next to it is Karanji Lake Nature Park, with a walk-through bird area, butterfly park and
calm boat rides. A combined ticket for the zoo and lake is Rs 150 per adult, Rs 80 per child — great for a full day
outside. Visit in the early morning or late afternoon when animals are active. Later, go to Chamundi Hills for wide
views and Chamundeshwari Temple.
Day 3 (Sunday): Culture, Markets and Departure.
On Sunday morning, go to Chamundi Hills and enjoy the temple and great city views. Then visit Devaraja
Market — busy with flowers, spices, fresh food and crafts. It is your place to buy souvenirs and try local street food
for a real Mysuru experience. If you have time, stop at St Philomena’s Cathedral, a Gothic church with beautiful
stained glass and quiet gardens. Before taking the train back, eat at a local cafe — try Mysuru pak sweets and a cup
of strong coffee.

A. Rs 40.

12 years ago, I learned a lesson about conference (会议) tourism. After a conference in Cape Town, I saw
colleagues meet family members who had just arrived. The next day, they were heading to a famous wildlife park
very far from the city. I learned that the chance to visit this park was a major reason the conference was held there.
For many international visitors, an African. safari (观兽旅行) is a dream trip. Conference organizers often
include discounted tours to major wildlife parks in their packages, which allow the attendees’ families to join an
affordable, once-in-a-lifetime experience.
I saw this again later in Nairobi, capital of Kenya. After a work event, organizers offered a half-day trip to the
Nairobi National Park. Of these 20 attending journalists from across Africa, I was the only one who refused to take
up that opportunity for a safari. The others were eager to see this famous park.
This showed me that a major wildlife park is a priceless advantage for any country wanting to attract tourists
and create jobs. And this is why Rwanda, for all its impressive efforts to expand its hosting of international
conferences, has little chance of ever catching up with Kenya. The main attraction of Rwandan tourism is “gorilla
trekking in the forest”. It’s to meet the needs of a handful of people at a time, and it’s also very expensive.
Undoubtedly, Kenya still has an edge over Rwanda when it comes to hosting conferences.
Those who argue that Nairobi City could benefit from having the park miss the bigger picture. And this is that
tourism is perhaps our greatest economic success, and yet we have only just discovered the surface of its potential.
We may want to attract more visitors to Kenya, and conference tourism would be a key to such development in
Kenyan tourism. But for this to happen, we need to leave the Nairobi National Park as it is.
4. What did the author learn from the conference in Cape Town?
A. A discounted tour was arranged after it was over.
B. A lesson was given about the protection of wildlife.
C. Many attendees were eager to meet their family members.
D. Some visitors were offered a chance to continue their education.
5. What was the author’s attitude towards a visit to the Nairobi National Park?
A. Unclear.
B. Puzzling.
C. Negative.
D. Positive.
6. Why does the author compare Rwanda with Kenya in paragraph 4?
A To promote the tourism in Africa.
B. To stress the value of wildlife parks.
C. To show their location advantage.
D. To criticize the overuse of wildlife parks.
7. What is suggested about wildlife parks?
A. They should be advertised for more visitors.
B. They should be developed for economic success.
C. They should be protected for a promising future.
D. They should be included in more kinds of tourism.
【答案】4. A 5. C 6. B 7. C

When we think about improving athletic performance, we usually focus on training hard, perfecting
techniques, and eating the right foods. But there’s an important part that we often forget — minerals ( 矿物质).
These small but mighty things are of importance for our bodies to perform well and recover quickly.
Minerals do a lot for athletes. Each mineral has its own job. Calcium ( 钙) is great for keeping our bones
strong, which is super important for preventing injuries during intense sports. Iron helps carry oxygen in our blood,
so we have enough energy to keep going. Magnesium (镁) helps with muscle relaxation. It’s involved in over 300
chemical reactions in our bodies, especially those related to making ATP, the energy our cells use, helping produce
necessary energy. Minerals contribute significantly to athletic performance by supporting essential bodily functions.
Each mineral has a unique function, making a balanced diet crucial for athletes. Ignoring these essential nutrients
could mean the difference between achieving a personal best and falling short.
If athletes don’t get enough minerals, it can cause problems. Lack of iron is common, especially in female
athletes. It can make them feel tired and influence their performance. Lack of magnesium might lead to muscle
discomfort or disease. And a lack of calcium can weaken bones.
So, how can athletes get enough minerals? They can eat a balanced diet with lots of different foods. Nuts and
whole grains are good sources of magnesium. Dairy products and leafy greens are rich in calcium. Some meats and
beans have iron. Sometimes, athletes may need extra. But it’s important to talk to a professional first to make sure
they take the right amount. Also, we need to balance minerals with other nutrients. Too much of one mineral can
cause problems. By paying attention to minerals, athletes can perform better and stay in shape.
8. What does the underlined word “mighty” in paragraph 1 mean?
A. Awkward.
B. Stressful.
C. Impressive.
D. Powerful.
9. Why is magnesium important for athletes?
A. It helps energy production.
B. It helps athletes avoid injury.
C. It balances the oxygen in our bodies.
D. It strengthens their muscles.
10. What may happen if an athlete lacks iron?
A. They may feel exhausted easily.
B. They may have muscle disease.
C. Their bones may become weak.
D. Their oxygen transport will be affected.
11. What can athletes do to make sure of enough minerals?
A. Avoid dairy products.
B. Ask a professional for advice.
C. Have a kind of mineral at a time.
D. Take as many minerals as they can.
【答案】8. D 9. A 10. A 11. B

A new study shows that rules limiting plastic bags in parts of the USA have successfully slowed the increase
of plastic bag litter along coastlines.
The study found that while the total number of plastic bags found nationwide is still rising, this increase
happened much more slowly in areas with bag bans (禁令) or fees. Plastic bags are a major problem in the ocean.
They can be easily blown away, escaping waste management efforts. Sea animals often get caught in them or eat
them, which can block their stomachs and cause death. Sadly, these thin bags are rarely recycled and break down
into tiny, harmful pieces called microplastics eaten by wildlife.
To measure the impact of some kinds of plastic bag policies, researchers studied hundreds of different local
rules adopted years ago. They combined this policy information with data from over 45,000 beach cleanups. In
these cleanups, volunteers counted and sorted all the trash they found, providing a huge amount of real-world
information. This let the researchers compare plastic bag litter before and after rules started, and also compare areas
with rules to those without.
Although plastic bags made up a larger portion of all litter collected over the study period, areas with bag
control policies saw a significantly smaller increase. Places with complete bans did better than those with only
partial (部分的) bans. Overall, the study found these policies led to a 25% to 47% decrease in plastic bags found
during cleanups compared to areas with no rules.
About one-third of Americans now live in an area with plastic bag rules. The researchers suggested that
statewide rules worked better than rules only in individual towns, and had the biggest impact on places that started
with the worst litter problems. They state that expanding these rules would further reduce plastic bag litter and
harm to wildlife.
However they warn that with overall waste expected to keep increasing, plastic pollution in water will remain
a huge global challenge. Solving it will require big policy changes focused not just on bags, but on reducing plastic
production and consumption.
12. What do we know about the plastic bags in the USA?
A. They cause ocean waste to pile up.
B. They become less harmful to locals.
C. They are a serious and unsolved problem.
D. They are ignored by previous research
13. How did the researchers carry out their research?
A. By organizing different beach cleanups.
B. By releasing some policy information.
C. By doing experiments in different areas.
D. By studying data in different times and areas.
14. What measure is the most effective in solving plastic pollution according to paragraph 4?
A. Punishing those who throw plastic bags.
B. Asking people to control plastic bag usage.
C. Producing less plastic bags in the worst area.
D. Adopting a complete ban policy on plastic bags.
15. What is a suitable title for the text?
A. Plastic Waste Still Harms Human Beings
B. Plastic Bags Threaten the Safety of Ocean
C. Plastic Bag Rules Help Make Coasts Cleaner
D. Plastic Pollution Requires a Scientific Solution
【答案】12. C 13. D 14. D 15. C

Lindsey used to hate paintings. Maybe it was the way that she just sat there, feeling bored whenever she was
in an art show or had to study paintings in school. She thought art was a waste of time and couldn’t understand why
people would spend hours looking at a still image on a big piece of cloth for painting.
One day, her school announced an art competition. The theme was “Hope”. At first, Lindsey had no intention
of taking part. But her best friend, Emily, who loved art, kept asking her to give it a try. “Come on, Lindsey! It’ll be
fun. You don’t have to be a great artist. Just express what hope means to you,” Emily said with a big smile.
Unwillingly, Lindsey decided to give it a shot. She started to think about what hope meant to her. She thought
about the times when she overcame difficulties, like learning to ride a bike after falling many times. Slowly, an idea
formed in her mind.
Then she took up her brush and began to draw. She drew a little girl standing at the bottom of a steep (陡峭的)
hill, looking up with determination. The path was full of rocks and other challenges, but the girl’s eyes were bright
with hope. As she was drawing, Lindsey realized that she was actually enjoying the process. She spent hours
perfecting the details, adding colors to make the picture more vivid (生动的).
However, when it was time to submit her work, Lindsey held back. She looked at her drawing and thought it
wasn’t good enough compared to the others’. What if everyone laughed at her? What if she made a fool of herself?
Doubts filled her mind.

But in the end, she gathered all her courage and finally handed in her drawing. She took a deep breath, trying
to push away her fears. Days passed, and she tried not to think about the competition. Then, the big day arrived.
The principal stood on the stage and started announcing the winners. When he reached the first-prize winner, he
said, “And the first prize goes to Lindsey for her amazing drawing that truly shows the real meaning of hope!”
