I had been up since 4 a. m., running 27 miles in the dark for an upcoming marathon. After completing my run
in just over four hours, I jumped into my car, heading to the health club for my regular workout. I made it almost
through my kickboxing class before passing out.
A friend carried me downstairs, and I lay down on the long sofa. I stayed like that until I could sit up without
the room spinning(旋转). Even then, I tried to head to the weight room, but my friend insisted that I go home,
packing me into my car with a serious look.
Back home, I showered, changed into workout clothes, and headed back to the car—only to find my keys
missing. My husband was holding them. "You have a problem," he said. As he walked away, I cried. If I had the
keys, I'd still have gone back to the health club.
I was just 30 years old, yet I had the bone density(密度) of a 60-year-old. Due to over-exercising and under-
eating, I had more stress fractures(骨折) in my legs and feet. My hair was falling out. I was underweight. I couldn't
sleep. I was feeling cold all the time. My blood pressure was very low. In short, my body was no longer able to
properly keep the most basic functions.
Then, I started treatment. The first rule of my treatment program was zero exercise. I wasn't even allowed to
walk around the block. I went from exercising for hours every day to nothing. It was the most difficult time I had
ever experienced.
Today I walk a fine line: I still exercise every day, but I limit it to no more than 2 hours. I have regular
checkups at the doctor, and keep good physical and mental health. Now my goal is to educate others.
24. Why did the writer try to go back to the club from home?
A. Because she had a passion for keeping fit.
B. Because she had an exercise addiction.
C. Because she had a fear of aging.
D. Because she had a desire to lose weight.
25. What is paragraph 4 mainly about?
A. Ways to slow down aging.
B. Common signs of aging.
C. The importance of workout.
D. Heavy price of over-exercising.
26. What was the writer's treatment course like?
A. Easy.
B. Relaxed.
C. Challenging.
D. Encouraging.
27. What lesson can we learn from the text?
A. Don't overdo your workout.
B. Daily exercise is important.
C. Regular checkups are necessary.
D. Zero exercise is the best health secret.

Dolphin(海豚) communication has always interested scientists. The intelligent creatures use a range of noises
to work together and stay connected. Some sounds even act like names, helping dolphins recognize one another.
Now, researchers at Google and Georgia Tech hope to understand dolphin speech—and maybe even talk to them—
with the help of Artificial Intelligence(AI).
The scientists began by training an AI language model called DolphinGemma, which used 40 years of data
from a group of Atlantic dolphins in the Bahamas. The recordings and videos were collected by researchers at the
Wild Dolphin Project(WDP). They got not only the sounds dolphins made but also the situation in which they were
used.
Once ready, DolphinGemma can produce sounds analogous to the recordings. About half are just ocean
noise. The rest are dolphins' clicks(短而尖的声音), whistles(口哨声), and burst pulses. Burst pulses are spaced
clicks that sound like a machine. Dolphins use them to talk, play, and find their way.
The next step is to test if these sounds produced by DolphinGemma work on dolphins. To do this, the team is
building a device(装置) named CHAT. Once ready, two divers will wear CHAT and swim alongside the dolphins.
CHAT will play a dolphin's whistle produced by AI to "ask" for an object, like a bottle. At the same time, the divers
will pass the object back and forth. If a dolphin copies the whistle, the divers will reward it with the bottle.
Thea Taylor is the director of the Sussex Dolphin Project. She warns that the researchers must be sure the
dolphins are communicating—not just making the sounds to get the object. "We have to think whether that's
actually an understanding of language—or whether it's the same as teaching a dog to sit because they get a
reward,"Taylor said.
Regardless of the result, the DolphinGemma team hopes their project will show how smart dolphins are.
Learning more about their communication could change how we see and treat them.
28. What did researchers use DolphinGemma to do first?
A. To copy the sounds of dolphins' speaking.
B. To identify every dolphin's name.
C. To analyze decades of ocean sounds.
D. To collect more dolphins' recording data.
29. What does the underlined word "analogous" mean?
A. Clever.
B. Noisy.
C. Similar.
D. Strange.
30. What is the main purpose of using CHAT in the experiment?
A. To train dolphins to perform tricks.
B. To test if dolphins understand sounds made by AI.
C. To feed dolphins in a natural environment.
D. To compare the speeches of dolphins and humans.
31. What's Taylor's attitude towards using CHAT?
A. Positive.
B. Doubtful.
C. Confident.
D. Favourable.

Did you know that dry deserts in some countries have become green and rich farmland? In places like the
United Arab Emirates and China, fruits and vegetables now grow well, offering fresh food to local people.
Back in the 1980s, the Nile Delta in Egypt—a place famous for good farming—suddenly became empty and
lifeless. For many years, flood waters from the Nile River had brought tiny clay(黏土) pieces to the soil(土壤).
These helped the land stay strong and rich. But when the Aswan Dam(大坝) was built, it stopped the clay from
flowing with the water. Without this clay, the soil became weaker and less able to grow crops.
Clay had been used in farming before, but it took a lot of work, often harmed nature, and could produce
greenhouse gases. Now, by studying how soil works, a company from Norway has made a product that can bring
life back to dry lands: liquid nanoclay(LNC). LNC is a careful mix of clay and water. It forms a thin liquid that
goes deep into the ground, below where most plant roots grow. The tiny clay pieces stick to sand and form a
network that holds water much better. This helps the soil stay wet and rich for longer.
While LNC can cut water use by up to 47%, it's not a perfect solution. Right now, treating one square meter of
land costs about $2—a price too high for many poor areas. Also, it only works well on sandy soils, so other places
with different soil types will need different solutions. LNC could also help grow forests in dry areas, giving animals
more homes and helping bring more rain. But this might hurt desert animals and people who are used to living in
dry places. Deserts may seem empty, but they play an important role in nature—they help control the Earth's
temperature.
32. What is the influence of the Aswan Dam?
A. Make the land poor.
B. Lead to flooding.
C. Raise crop production.
D. Bring a lot of clay.
33. What is the third paragraph mainly about concerning LNC?
A. Its production cost.
B. Its business value.
C. Its harmful influence.
D. Its working rule.
34. Which is the limitation of LNC?
A. Its colour.
B. Its production.
C. Its selling price.
D. Its instructions for use.
35. What is the best title for the text?
A. LNC: A Perfect Solution to Desert Farming
B. The Aswan Dam and Its Harm to the Nile Delta
C. Turning Deserts into Farmland: Hopes and Challenges
D. How Clay Helps Soil Stay Rich and Productive
Earthquakes happen all over the world. Here are some steps you can take to prepare yourself in advance.
Drop, cover and hold. If you feel the ground start to shake: Drop, take cover under a strong piece of furniture,
and hold on. You're the safest under something like a desk or table, with one arm holding onto a leg of the table and
your other arm protecting your neck and head. 36 In modern homes, doorways(门口) are no stronger than
any other part of the house and will not protect you from injuries.
Make a family plan. Next, make sure your family has a plan of action. Whatever plan you decide on, don't
rely on your phone as your main form of communication. 37 A major earthquake may damage cell
towers(手机信号塔) and knock out communication services for days.
Secure your furniture. 38

People often get injured from flying or falling objects like furniture or
glass during earthquakes. Remove or secure heavy objects such as shelves, mirrors and picture frames above areas
where you spend a lot of time, such as your bed or desk. You should also fasten(固定) larger furniture like shelving
units and TVs to the wall.
39 Prepare enough supplies to last at least 72 hours for every family member. Store at least one gallon
of water per person per day. Pair this with a 72-hour supply of food items. Choose foods that are lightweight,
nutritious, and have long shelf lives.
Start preparing your go bag. Everyone at home should have one, and it should contain enough food, clothing
and supplies to last about three days. 40 A flashlight is good to have in case the power goes out, and heavy-
duty(结实的) gloves can help if you need to clear broken pieces like glass.
A. Be aware of aftershocks.
B. Store up water and food.
C. But try to pack relatively lightly.
D. Do not stand in a door frame.
E. Technology fails all the time in disasters.
F. Take a bag on your way out of the house.
G. Hanging shelves above your bed could be dangerous.

Always dreaming of being as slim as girls on TV, I tried every diet I found online, hoping 56 (change)
quickly. Worried about my weight, I followed plans that left me tired—no-fat, low-fat, 5:2, only bananas, then
none. I almost went bananas, too.
Then I read an article 57 changed everything. Instead of asking “Am I fat?”, I should ask “Am I fit?”
Never had I thought one letter could make such 58 difference. Once I started focusing on fitness, not just
looks, things improved fast.
Instead of saying “I want to lose three kilos”, I began setting real goals: “I want to run two kilometres in eight
minutes” or “do 30 push-ups without stopping”. These goals, once 59 (think) impossible, slowly became
possible. Moving more and eating better made me feel 60 (true) stronger every day.
Instead of 61 (remove) foods I enjoyed, I improved my meals by adding healthy choices. A burger
now and then was still okay, especially when served 62 a salad or an apple.
Finally, I stopped comparing 63 (I) with actresses and models. I stopped looking for flaws(不足) I
already noticed too many times. Quite the opposite, I 64 (write) down the things I liked most about myself,
things often ignored before.
By choosing to be kind to my body and accepting what was good, I became 65 (healthy) than ever.

child (6—12 years) .”
根据Farm-to-Table Dining 中“Booking required, March—October, from Tuesday to
Sunday”
根据倒数第二段“It was the most difficult time I had ever experienced. ”可知,治疗的
过程对于作者来说非常难熬,充满挑战性。
27. A 推理判断题。根据全文内容,特别是最后一段内容可知,本文警示人们不能过度锻炼,否则适得
其反。
【文章大意】文中科学家借助AI 分析海豚叫声,试图破译其语言并实现交流。该项目引发对海豚智能的
认知革新,重新思考人类与海洋智慧生命的共存关系。
28. A 细节理解题。根据第二段和第三段“The scientists began by training an AI language model… The rest
are dolphins’ clicks, whistles, and burst pulses…”
根据第二段“The recordings and videos… They got not only the sounds dophins made
but also the situation in which they were used.”以及第三段“Once ready, DolphinGemma can produce sounds
analogous to the recordings. About half are just ocean noise. The rest are dolphins’ clicks, whistles, and burst
pulses.”
根据第四段“The next step is to test if these sounds produced by DolphinGemma work on
dolphins… If a dolphin copies the whistle, the divers will reward it with the bottle.”
根据第二段“But when the Aswan Dam was built, it stopped the clay from flowing with
the water. Without this clay, the soil became weaker and less able to grow crops.”
根据第三段“LNC is a careful mix of clay and water. It forms a thin liquid that goes deep
into the ground. This helps the soil stay wet and rich for longer.”
根据第四段“While LNC can cut water use by up to 47%, it’s not a perfect solution. Right
now, treating one square meter of land costs about $2—a price too high for many poor areas.”
36. D 空前提到“If you feel the ground start to shake: Drop, take cover under a strong piece of furniture, and
hold on. You’re the safest under something like a desk or table…”,明确给出了地震中“蹲下、掩护、抓牢”的
In modern homes, doorways are no stronger
than any other part of the house and will not protect you from injuries.”
D 选项符合语境,其中“stand in a door frame”直接对应后文的“doorways”,既承接了前文
“安全躲避”的核心话题,又自然引出后文对门框安全性的否定,形成完整的逻辑闭环。
37. E 空前提到“ Whatever plan you decide on, don’t rely on your phone as your main form of
空后“A
major earthquake may damage cell towers and knock out communication services for days.”
“phone”,“fails”则直接呼应后文“damage cell towers and knock out communication services for days”所描
38. G 本段小标题为“Secure your furniture”。空后“People often get injured from flying or falling objects
like furniture or glass during earthquakes.”
shelves”是典型的“未固定重物”,与后文“heavy objects such as shelves”形成呼应;“dangerous”则直接对
应空后的“at least one gallon of water”以及“food items”,符合语境。
40. C 空前提到“Everyone at home should have one, and it should contain enough food, clothing and supplies
to last about three days. 空后“A flashlight is good to have in case the
power goes out, and heavy-duty gloves can help if you need to clear broken pieces like glass”,则列举了应急包
C 选项符合语境,其中“pack”直接呼应“preparing your go bag”

41. D 根据下文“They would be… me, and I was no longer part of the group”结合选项可知,Eby 被朋友排
42. C 下文明确提到“I was no longer part of the group”,说明朋友对Eby 的态度是排斥的。“ignoring”

44. B 根据上文“she… in tears while in class”可知,老师注意到Eby 的异常,自然会想了解“出了什么问
45. B 上文明确提到“The girls that I played with told me…”, 此处Eby 向老师倾诉的内容应首先围绕那些
46. D 根据下文“I remember waking up one morning and realizing… that my brother was gone. It felt like…
people I loved disappeared”可知,哥哥对Eby 来说是重要的情感支柱。“rock”(支柱) 形象体现了这种支
撑作用。
47. A 上文提到“overnight they took him”,下文衔接“with my dad”,说明哥哥被送到了父亲那里。
“dropped sb. off”是固定短语,意为“送某人到某地”,与“took him”形成动作衔接。
48. D 根据“that my brother was gone”可知,Eby 的心情是失落沉重的。“sinking heart”(沉重的心情)
生动描述了这种失落感,与“哥哥突然离开”的情境匹配。
49. B 根据下文“people I loved disappeared”可知,Eby 的感受是无论看向哪里,都找不到依靠。
“everywhere I turned”(无论我转向哪里)符合这种“四处寻找却无果”的无助感。
50. A 上文提到“people I loved disappeared”,下文“they didn’t tell me why”进一步强化了Eby 被抛弃的
51. D 结合上文“my brother was gone”和“They stopped loving me”可知,Eby 对这些状况无力改变。
“had no control over it”(无法掌控这一切)精准表达了这种“失控感”,与“被动承受变故”的语境一致。
52. A 上文Eby 向老师讲述了女孩们排斥她以及哥哥离开的经过,这些是她的人生经历。“told the whole
story”(讲述了整个故事)与上文“But then I told her the rest of the story”形成呼应。
53. B 下文提到“She pulled me close to her and… She let me cry” ,可见老师的态度是安抚性的。
“gently”(温柔地)与这种安抚行为一致。
54. B 上文提到“She pulled me close to her”,下文明确说“And somehow her hug centered me”,可见此处
55. C 上文提到“her hug centered me”,下文提到“it made me feel that I would be OK”,可见拥抱给了
Eby
57. that/which 考查定语从句。
系词在从句中作主语,用that/which。
此处为状语从句的省略,完整结构应为“These goals, once (they were)
thought impossible”。
介词短语Instead of 后接动名词作宾语,instead of doing sth.

85. Our English teacher was telling us a funny story when the bell for class ending rang. /When our English teacher
was telling us a funny story, the bell for class ending rang.
One possible version:
Last Saturday, our school held the Eco-Farm Experience Day to help students get closer to nature. We were
transported to a unique farm site by bus. On the farm, even though the path was narrow, we admired the green
crops. I was picking apples when a chicken suddenly ran past me, which made me laugh. We all thought it great to
learn farming. We found the soil full of life, which was amazing. It was the hands-on experience that made us
realize food’s value.
Even if tired, we felt happy. Classmates shared laughs, and I think it’s important to learn from nature.
Text 1
M: Excuse me, could you tell me when will the next train to Manchester leave?
W: Certainly. Let me check for you. The 14:25 service to Manchester is running behind the schedule. It’s now
expected to arrive at 14:35 and leave in 10 minutes. (1)
Text 2
W: Hasn’t that basketball match finished yet? You know I want to watch Animal World at nine o’clock.
M: It’s cancelled, and everything’s running later because the rock concert had finished later than expected. Sit
down and watch this match with me. (2)
W: Oh, OK then.
Text 3
M: Hi, I’d love to go to the movies. Shall we meet outside the cinema?
W: We could have a snack at the burger bar before we go in or we could meet at the bus station.
M: Mum’s driving me into town this afternoon, so I won’t be near the station. But something to eat first is a good
idea. (3) Shall we say six o’clock?
Text 4
M: I really like the new IT teacher-our project for this term is to design a new website. I’ve always wanted to know
how to do that.
W: The PE teacher is much more serious but that’s still my favourite subject. (4) Last year I really liked
geography, but the teacher we have now gives us so much homework.
Text 5
W: I finished the experiment for the science project (5) — plants grew better with music! I’ll bring the photos.
M: Great! I’ll complete the report tonight. Then we can check it together.
Text 6
M: That was a great school trip. (6) There were so many different animals.
W: Yes. I love dinosaurs, but even I got a bit tired of looking at bones after an hour on the trip last year.
M: I agree. At least this time they are alive!
W: Yes, and it’s so nice to see creatures from all over the world. I’m glad the teacher called off her original plan
to go to a farm. (7) We see sheep and cows all the time around here.
M: We do.
Text 7
W: Do you remember the DNA model I handed in for the science competition? I got the first prize!
M: Wow! I’m so proud of you! So what’s the prize?
W: A week in London with free entrance to the Science Museum there with my parents. (8)
M: That’s amazing!
W: Honestly, I wish you could come. We could explore the museum together—you love space and robots just like I
do!
M: Thanks. But your parents probably want quality family time. It makes sense.
W: Still, I’ll take lots of photos and videos for you. And I’ll bring back a special gift—maybe a model rocket!
(9)
M: Really? So kind of you! Enjoy every moment.
W: I will. And next time, we’ll enter the competition together, (10) and we can both win and travel as a team!
M: Now that’s a goal worth working for! Let’s start preparing early.
W: Deal! This trip isn’t just mine. It’ll also be an inspiration for our next adventure.
Text 8
W: So what do you think about the new student at school? She seems to be a bit unfriendly. When I tried to talk
to her she didn’t say much. (11)
M: Really? I had a chat with her and she was really interesting. She’s just moved here from America.
W: That’s strange. Why didn’t she talk to me then?
M: To be honest, Anna, you can be a bit scary if people don’t know you. And you talk loudly. (12)
W: Oh, thanks.
M: Don’t be sad. People love you when they know you. I’m sure you’ll be friends soon.
W: Maybe you’re right… I’ll keep my voice down from now on. I hope she doesn’t think I’m rude.
M: By the way, she actually loves drawing—I saw her drawings in the art club. They’re really good.
W: Oh, yeah? I love drawing, (13) though I also enjoy singing and dancing in the school dance team! Maybe I
could also join the art club.
M: That would be great! I can introduce you to her properly then.
W: Thanks, I might have misunderstood her completely.
Text 9
M: Hi, Miranda. How are you?
W: Hi! I’m fine. I’m helping Mum paint my bedroom. (14)
M: Oh?How’s it going?
W: Not well. My sister Jane and I can’t agree. We each have our own side. Mine’s blue, with pop posters. Hers is
pink, with dolls. (15) It’s fine. She’s younger.
M: I share with my brother Max. He’s older, so he lets me use his computer, music player, and everything!
W: Wow! If I did that, she’d tell Mum and I’d get in trouble. We argue sometimes.
M: Not us.
W: Still, I get on well with her. She went camping last week, (16) and I really missed her. I didn’t expect that.
M: I know. Max is going to university soon. The room will feel empty. But at least I’ll do homework in peace. He’s
always there now.
W: My sister plays outside, so it’s quiet. But when she’s not here, I have no one to talk to. She is a good listener,
even if she can’t help.
M: My brother’s the same. (17)
Text 10
M: Hello, everyone. Let me introduce myself—my name’s Ben and I’d like to tell you about a course you can take
on Saturday mornings.
I’m from an organization called “Nature” and we run courses for young people like you during the weekends.
We usually take groups like yours to a wild place that’s near our town. Sometimes we go to a beach or a lake, but
we’ve planned to go to a forest this time. (18) That’s the closest place for you, and the easiest to get to.
Now, we’d like you to come and do some activities with us. You spend six hours each week with us and the
course lasts for 12 weeks, (19) depending on the weather. That might sound like a long time, but we think you’ll
hate to say goodbye when it’s over!
While you’re with us, we’ll show you how to make things out of different materials. On the last course, the
group designed backpacks of different styles. This time we’d get you to design and make a birdhouse. (20)
When finished, you can take it home and show it to your family. We think you’ll enjoy doing this.
Now, any questions?
