飞天奖、星光奖在烟台揭晓

China's Top TV Awards Announced in Yantai

On the evening of October 9, the 35th Flying Apsaras Awards and the 29th Starlight Awards were announced at a ceremony in Yantai, Shandong Province. It was the first time that the ceremony was held in Shandong. The Flying Apsaras Award is the highest government award for TV plays in China, and it is presented every two years.

Sixteen TV plays, including Northwest Years, Sheng Wanwu, Mountain Flowers Bloom and My Altay, won the Excellent TV Play Award. Fourteen works, such as documentaries and children's programmes, won the Starlight Awards.

Song Jia won Best Actress for playing headmaster Zhang Guimei in Mountain Flowers Bloom. She had already won the Magnolia Award and the Golden Eagle Award for the same role, so she became the first Chinese actress to collect all three top TV awards with one character. Wang Renjun won Best Actor for Bloody Glory, and Liu Jiacheng was named Best Director.

Over Half of China's Autumn Grain Harvested

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs said on October 10 that more than half of China's autumn grain has been harvested, according to its latest report. The harvest reached a peak after Cold Dew, one of the 24 traditional Chinese solar terms.

The progress is different across the country. In the southwest, about 75 percent of the grain has been cut, while the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River have passed 50 percent. In the northeast, the figure is about 35 percent. Winter wheat planting has started, and more than 10 percent of the winter rapeseed has been sown.

To support farmers, the ministry has sent six work teams and science groups to twelve key provinces. It has also printed planting guides and held online training classes. Smart machines with BeiDou navigation are helping to reduce grain loss during the busy harvest.

Chinese gymnasts enjoyed a golden day at the 20th Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan, on October 10. In the men's team final, China scored 255.095 points to beat Japan, which took silver with 253.826 points. Zhang Boheng then won the men's all-around title with 85.065 points, finishing ahead of Japan's Shinnosuke Oka.

The medals kept coming in the apparatus finals. Zou Jingyuan scored 15.500 to win gold on the parallel bars, Lan Xingyu took the rings title with 14.933 points, and Tian Hao won gold on the horizontal bar with 14.700 points.

In the women's events, China won the team final with 166.462 points, its 14th straight women's team title at the Asian Games. Qiu Qiyuan added a gold medal on the uneven bars with 15.100 points. Eighteen-year-old Zhang Yihan competed on vault and floor exercise to help the team, and she also earned a bronze medal on floor exercise.
