Convenience or Burden
Nowadays, QR codes are everywhere in our lives. They have clearly led to increased
convenience in our daily life. With a clear “beep” after scanning a QR code by WeChat or Alipay, a
cashless payment will instantly be accomplished, thus saving us the trouble of carrying wallets around, not to
mention its function to keep electronic records of every transaction.
However, as opportunities and requirements for scanning increase, what should be a
convenience and quick scan can sometimes be turned into a burden. Imagine yourself in a restaurant
with a smartphone without power, cold, hungry and penniless, and the boss only accepts orders placed
through a mini-program on WeChat/Alipay! What a bad luck!
From my perspective, the widespread use of QR codes is more of a convenience than a burden. QR
codes save time, increase security and help consumers make informed choices. We can easily solve the
problem of battery anxiety by carrying a power bank on us.

学科网(北京)股份有限公司M: Yeah. Bethany House is looking for some helpful volunteers now. It offers volunteering opportunities
for both groups and individuals.
W: So what can groups do?
M: Groups can host a weekday dinner or a weekend breakfast. They also have yard work.

Text 10 3D食物打印机
W: 3D printing is becoming more and more popular. We are now able to print things such as clothing
and musical instruments. But can you imagine printing food?
⑰
Some scientists are trying to change the dining experience by doing this. They hope that having a 3D
printer in the kitchen will become as usual as the microwave. Scientists say that they are easy to use: you
have to select a recipe and put the raw “food inks” into the printer. You can also modify the instructions to
make the food exactly how you want it. This means that it would be very quick and easy to create tasty
and nutritious meals.
⑱
Using 3D printers to create your meals would also be saving the environment. There would be less need for
traditional growing, transporting and packaging as food production would be a lot more efficient.
However, some people think that a future of 3D-printed food would be a disaster. It could take away
many jobs, including those for growing, transporting and packaging food. Likewise, traditional cafes
and restaurants might lose business. Also, there are concerns about the nutritional value of printed food: Is
⑲
it really possible to get enough nutrients? How do you like the idea?
