Dear David,
Grateful for your heartfelt congratulations on our huge hit in the handwritten newspaper competition themed
“Fragrant Campus with Books”, I’m immensely thrilled to share the detailed process of its production. Below are
a handful of particulars.
For starters, after brainstorming and a heated discussion, our group chose a topic about reading Oliver Twist.
Additionally, it was sufficient preparations and united cooperation that brought about our achievement. Each
member was assigned specific tasks and finished their own part earnestly, collecting relevant information,
handwriting and drawing included. At length, perfecting the work constantly is the key to success.
Participating in the activity benefited me tremendously. Not only did I realize the significance of reading
profoundly, but I also experienced the power of teamwork spirit.
Yours,
Li Hua
Lily and Kevin decided to launch a fundraising campaign. Without hesitation, they rolled their sleeves to
create posters with She Niu’s photos and stories, explaining the cat’s medical needs and their wish to bring it
home. After finishing their delicate posters, a glimmer of hope was kindled in their little heart. Afterwards, they
posted these on their schools’ bulletin board. Despite their efforts, the initial response was slow, and the donations
trickled in gradually. Undeterred and determined, they finally turned to social media platforms, appealing to the
compassion of animal lovers. Unexpectedly, it worked perfectly, with donations flooding in from all walks of
people.
With the financial burden lifted, She Niu received the best possible care.
The funds allowed for
specialized treatments. As days turned into weeks, its little body fighting bravely against pneumonia, She Niu
made steady progress. The siblings visited daily, providing love and encouragement. Finally, after what seemed
like an eternity, She Niu was declared healthy enough to leave the hospital. Overwhelmed with joy, Lily and

Text 1
M: Paula, it’s me. Are you on the way?
W: Mike! Oh, gosh… I’ve completely lost track of time. It’s just impossible to put down that book you lent me!
Don’t worry, I’ll be dressed and in a taxi within ten minutes. (1)
Text 2
W: I’m putting on some weight. Do you think I should go to the gym or go on a diet?
M: Neither. You’d better eat more natural food rather than packaged food. Choose snacks like vegetable
sticks instead of cakes. (2) It will help you maintain a healthier weight.
W: Okay, I will try that.
Text 3
W: Are you going to Darren’s board game party tonight?
M: Honestly, I’d rather spend the evening in the dentist’s chair! No…that’s unkind of me. Darren is great. It’s
just that his idea of fun is very different from mine. Board games don’t interest me too much. (3)
Text 4
M: Excuse me, this lady believes you’re sitting in her seat.
W: I don’t think so. Look at my ticket…the train to Manchester at 11:20 a.m., coach F, row 15, seat A.
M: Ah, I see the confusion. This is E15A. (4) Let me show you where you should be sitting.
Text 5
M: Will you come and sit on my suitcase? I’ve already removed everything I possibly can, and I still can’t get it
closed!
W: Well, I’m not surprised. Look at how you’ve packed it! Rolling things take up much less space than folding
ones. Look, I’ll show you. (5)
Text 6
W: I must say I’m really impressed with how quickly John is picking things up. (6) (7)
M: Really?
W: Yeah. I was a bit worried when human resources sent him to me. (6) This isn’t an easy job, particularly if
you’ve never had any previous sales experience — as he hasn’t. (6) (7) But he’s learning so quickly.
M: Maybe it’s down to your great teaching.
W: No, I really think he has a natural ability for sales. (7) He has the confidence and people skills required. If
he continues to perform like this, he’ll definitely be promoted to management within the next few years.
Text 7
M: Excuse me. I’ve looked everywhere upstairs, but I can’t find the envelopes. (8)
W: They are now right at the back of the store, opposite the magazines. (8)
M: Okay, thanks. My grandma wants some airmail envelopes to write to her Spanish friend. Any idea what they
look like?
W: They’re white, with blue and red around the outside, and say “By Airmail” in both English and French in the
top corner.
M: Oh, okay. That sounds easy to spot. I don’t see why we need special envelopes for airmail, anyway. (9)
W: They’re thinner than ordinary ones, and weight is really important when you’re carrying thousands of
them on a plane! (9)
M: Oh yeah, I guess so! Thanks.
W: Was that your mom on the phone? (10)
M: No, it was the manager of that café I interviewed last week. (10)

W: Oh! Well?
M: I got the job! Every Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., plus every other Sunday.
W: That’s great! Well done!
M: The only problem is that they want me to come in for a training session next Friday evening. (11)
W: Oh, that’s okay. We can see the film another time. (11) Besides, you could hardly say no! You want to make
a good impression.
M: Thanks for understanding. I really need this job. My parents are only paying for classes and
accommodation when I get to college. (12)
W: I get it. And I think you’ll be a good waiter. You’re great with people!
M: Thanks! Although, I think I’ll be starting off by washing dishes in the back. But if I do a good job, hopefully I’
ll get promoted!
W: That’s how everyone starts, don’t worry! And I’ll be here cheering you on every step of the way!
Text 9
M: Well, it’s 6:30 p.m. I’m James Wyatt, and you’re listening to The Music of My Life. Today’s special guest
is the popular singer, Sparrow. Welcome to the studio! (14)
W: Thanks for having me! (14)
M: So, two number-one hits in six months! (17) How does that feel?
W: Honestly? Pretty unreal! It feels like a dream! I’ve been trying to get my music heard for years, and now,
suddenly, it’s all happening.
M: It all started with a music video you posted on social media, right? (15)
W: Yeah. But “Shining Stars” was actually the fourth song I had released online. (15) Somehow, the video
was seen by the music producer, Gander.
M: Right. And he shared it on his page.
W: Exactly. And then, everything blew up! Spin Records offered me a deal, and the next thing I knew was the
fact that I was in the studio making Galaxy! (16)
M: It is such a great album by the way! (16) You deserve these honors! (17)
W: Thanks!
M: The first song “Ground Control” went straight to the top of the charts. And now, it seems you’ve got another
number-one hit on your hands! Let’s hear it now… This is “Earth-like Planet”.
I’ve never really been fond of outdoor activities. As a small-town girl, nature was simply a part of my daily
life. It wasn’t until I came to the film school in New York that I realized just how much I had been taking for
granted. Surrounded by tall buildings, I was surprised at how anxious I felt. That’s why when my friend invited
me to join the nature club, I decided to go along. I didn’t expect it to be so much fun! Each Saturday afternoon,
about twenty of us will take the subway to Central Park. It only takes about a quarter of an hour from our
campus. (18) Often, we take nature walks, collect litter, and talk. We’ve also had special sessions on birdwatching
and nature photography. Next month, we’re planning to drive up to the Adirondack Mountains for a camping
trip, and I’m going to take my video camera along and see what I can shoot. (19) Thanks to the nature club, I’
ve started taking classes in making documentaries (纪录⽚). My dream is to make a nature film as good as The
Blue Planet or My Octopus Teacher someday.

A
根据第三段“The Carolina Reaper, also developed by the Pucker Butt Pepper
Company, held the title of the world’s hottest-pepper in the Guinness Book of World Records from 2013 to2021.(
根据第四段“The Komodo Dragon pepper is a fiery chili hailing from the UK.( Komodo
Dragon辣椒是⼀种来⾃英国的辣椒)”以及“The heat of the Komodo Dragon pepper is not immediate but builds
up for 10 seconds before it unleashes its full potential.( Komodo Dragon辣椒的热量不是⽴即产⽣的,⽽是在
根据第五段“And it looks evil, with its scorpion-like stinger tail.(它看起来很邪恶,有着蝎
⼦般的毒刺尾巴)”根据第六段“Its dark brown color gives it a unique appearance among chili peppers.(它的深棕

B
A quick online
search revealed other must-visit spots around Shillong. Most were familiar, but one caught our attention—
Nartiang with its mysterious monoliths .The photo showed tall stones piled together in a strange formation,
appealing to us to explore further despite the lack of details provided.
Why don't you go lift that huge stone in the bazaar and use it as an umbrella?
"she said dismissively. Emboldened by her challenge, he just did that, but before reaching Nartiang, he placed it
in a forest when the rain had stopped.("你为什么不去集市上搬那块巨⽯当伞⽤呢?"
A.Moved被...感动; B.Threatened被...威胁;C.Frightened被...吓到;D.Stimulated被...
There is a certain overlap of ancient story and memory in the case of the
Nartiang monoliths. The locals' account of how the place came to be is based on ancient stories or folk customs.
But they also remember it because it served their ancestors as a weekly marketplace, a memorial, and a place for
political gatherings. That is how oral history works. It mixes fact and fiction into memory shared by the
locals",said Dr Reeju Ray, a local writer.("在Nartiang巨⽯的案例中,古代故事和记忆有⼀定的重叠。
A Trip to the Monoliths. 故选A。

根据第⼆段中的“‘Typically, species interactions...and palm fruit sizes.’”

Dr Theobald theorised that if anxiety was truly interfering with a student’s
ability to transfer known information from brain to paper via pen, then those with high levels of it would
perform worse in a real exam than in either a mock beforehand or during online practice sessions.
根据⽂章第五段第五句“What actually hampered students, it turned out, were high levels of
anxiety during the weeks before the exam took place.
根据最后⼀段“And this discovery is far-reaching, for it suggests a change of approach to
revision by the anxious might help improve their results.
故选A。
