two schools have eight-week holidays. But in the end we decided to keep to the same plan as last year.
M: But, as I understand, last year’s course wasn’t a complete success, was it?W: Well, we were actually very surprised by the number of people interested in the course. We didn’t actually have
enough assistants to look after all the children. Besides, there was such a lot of rain that we couldn’t go outside as

M: So, what activities can the children look forward to this year?
W: Well, once again there’ll be artists and musicians who will lead creative classes. We also considered providing

A confident smile is a happy smile. Have you ever had a stranger smile at you while you were out in public?
Maybe you were feeling down, but their genuine and friendly smiles literally made you turn your frown upside
down. All thanks to that smiley person, your negative attitude suddenly subsided. It is hard to believe that such a
small gesture can impact your mood so sim ply, but I would be lying if I said that I’ve never experienced this
feeling. I’m sure you can relate.
With that being said, science can back this up. Where are these happy feelings coming from? Well, when yousmile at someone, you may feel like you’re experiencing temporary happiness. That is because endorphins (内啡肽)
are released in the brain when you smile. Endorphins can be described as natural painkillers for the body, which
also boost your self-esteem (自尊). Smiling is really a simple act of kindness, which can also make you feel better
about yourself.
As an illustration, someone going in for a job interview with their heads held high, and smiles on their faces
will have a better chance of scoring the job. Employers remark that a person who looks down when they speak to
avoid showing their smiles during an interview, most likely won’t be hired, because it looks as though they are
hiding something. However, that person with an inviting smile shows confidence. No matter what you look like, a
smile is worth a thousand words and people can recognize that.
It gives me such a rewarding feeling helping children, teens, and adults to build their selfesteem through
treatment. It’s all worth it seeing that spark of joy in my patient after the job is all said and done. I truly believe that
a bright eyed smile has the capacity to allow you to connect with others, without uttering a sound.
24.What does the underlined word “subsided”mean in Paragraph 1?
A.Appeared. B.Weakened. C.Increased. D.Smiled.
25.What’s the use of endorphins?
A.Making people feel happy.
B.Making people act kindly.
C.Making brains work fast.
D.Curing some diseases.
26.Why is it hard for a person not showing a smile to get a job?
A.He holds his head too high.
B.He looks down upon others.
C.He looks a little dishonest.
D.He is too confident.
27.What kind of work is the author likely to do?
A.A teacher. B.A volunteer. C.A scientist. D.A doctor.
【答案】24.B 25.A 26.C 27.D
Maybe you were feeling down, but their genuine and friendly smiles
literally made you turn your frown upside down.(也许你情绪低落,但他们真诚友好的微笑真的会让你神采飞扬)”可知,多亏了那个微笑的人,你的消极态度突然平息了。
根据第二段“That is because endorphins (内啡肽) are released in the brain when you smile.
Endorphins can be described as natural painkillers for the body, which also boost your self-esteem (自尊). Smiling
is really a simple act of kindness, which can also make you feel better about yourself.(这是因为当你微笑时,大
故选A项。
Employers remark that a person who looks down when they speak to avoid
showing their smiles during an interview, most likely won’t be hired, because it looks as though they are hiding
It’s all worth it seeing that spark of joy in my patient after the job is all said
C
Starting in the mid-2010s, the success of streaming services like Spotify, Tencent and Apple Music led the
music industry into a period of steady income growth. But the rise of streaming hasn’t just transformed the business
of music; it has changed the music as well.
In 1972, the Temptations hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, winning three Grammys, with a
seven-minute version of the song “Papa Was a Rollin’ Stone”. Before the Temptations sing a word, an instrumental
introduction plays for more than four minutes. If the group were in the studio today, the title chorus (副歌) would
most likely have been featured much earlier in the song. That’s because music streaming services pay artists based
on the number of plays each month, and to count as a play, a user must listen to the song past the 30-second mark.
If a song you’ve never heard before takes a long time to get to the hook (旋律最好的部分), there is a good chance
that you may simply hit the button to go to the next song. To keep the “skip rate (跳过率)” as low as possible,
musical artists are increasingly moving a song’s hook to that initial 30-second sweet spot.
Every track that is listened to for more than 30 seconds counts as a play, but whether a listener makes it all the
way through a song helps to determine whether a streaming service like Spotify will recommend similar songs in
the future. For a musician, getting a song on Spotify’s popular Today’s Top Hits playlist means real money. A studyby researchers at the University of Minnesota and the European Joint Research Centre found that songs on the list
gained an average of 20 million streams, worth up to $163,000 in royalties (版税).
As a result, according to an analysis by blogger Michael Tauberg, the average length of hit songs has dropped
by more than 30 seconds since 2000, when it was over four minutes. Nearly two-thirds of the songs that achieved
the number one spot in the first half of 2021 were under three minutes long.
28.Why is the Temptations mentioned in paragraph 2?
A.To explain what made a song special in the past.
B.To show admiration for their musical achievements.
C.To illustrate the structure of popular songs in the past.
D.To introduce the changes in song structure brought about by streaming.
29.What is the result of a song taking a long time to get to the hook?
A.The artists will receive higher royalties.
B.The listeners are more likely to skip it.
C.It will be recommended to more users.
D.It will be more popular among listeners.
30.What contributes to the decreasing average length of hit songs?
A.Advance in music production technology.
B.The change in listeners’ musical preference.
C.The desire for higher streaming-based income.
D.Increased competition among streaming platforms.
31.What does the text mainly talk about?
A.How streaming changes the length of music.
B.How streaming services produce hit songs.
C.How streaming promotes the development of music.
D.How streaming influences our preference for music.
【答案】28.D 29.B 30.C 31.A
But the rise of streaming hasn’t just transformed the business of music; it has
changed the music as well.(但流媒体的兴起不仅改变了音乐行业;它也改变了音乐。)”
because music streaming services pay artists based on the number of plays each month, and to count as a play, auser must listen to the song past the 30-second mark.(这是因为音乐流媒体服务根据每个月的播放次数向艺人
根据第二段“If a song you’ve never heard before takes a long time to get to the hook (旋律最
好的部分), there is a good chance that you may simply hit the button to go to the next song.(如果一首你从未听过
Every track that is listened to for more than 30 seconds counts as a play, but
whether a listener makes it all the way through a song helps to determine whether a streaming service like Spotify
will recommend similar songs in the future. For a musician, getting a song on Spotify’s popular Today’s Top Hits
But the rise of streaming hasn’t just transformed the business of
music; it has changed the music as well.(但流媒体的兴起不仅改变了音乐行业;它也改变了音乐。)”
As a result, according to an analysis by blogger Michael Tauberg, the average length of hit songs has dropped
by more than 30 seconds since 2000, when it was over four minutes.(因此,根据博主Michael Tauberg的分析,
changes the length of music.(流媒体如何改变音乐的长度。)”。故选A。
D
Almost a quarter of the UK’s sea swimmers may not swim in the ocean this year because of sewage (污水)
dumping by water companies, according to a poll Sewage was dumped into waters near England’s
most celebrated beaches for nearly 8,500 hours last year. And there were 1,504 discharges (排出) in 2022 on
beaches supposed to be free from such pollution.
The poll spoke to 2,272 UK adults between 21 and 23 on July. Just over 30% said they typically went sea
swimming during the summer, and of these 23% said they would not this year because of sewage dumping by water
companies. More than two in five of the regular beachgoers also said they were less likely to visit the British
seaside this summer because of sewage discharges. The Department for Environment says government should allow the Environment Agency to charge unlimited
fines on rule-breaking water companies. Fines are currently capped (上限) at £250,000. The Department for
Environment has been calling for a sewage tax on annual profits and a ban on bonuses of water company managers.
“Coastal communities are at the mercy of water companies who unapologetically discharge raw sewage into
popular swimming spots,” Tim Farron, the Department for Environment’s spokesperson said. “The government
needs to stop letting water companies off the hook and finally ban these terrible sewage discharges and defend our
tourism sector.”
A Water UK spokesperson said standards at beaches had greatly improved since the 1990s but that the industry
recognized it had been slow to deal with the harm to our seas caused by sewage overflows. “Over the next seven
years, water and sewerage companies plan to spend £10bn—doubling current levels of investment—on sewage
treatment,” they said. “As part of this, bathing waters will be among the first to receive funding.”
32.What does the poll show?
A.Water companies dumped the most sewage into waters last year.
B.Many swimmers avoid the water over fears of sewage on UK beaches.
C.Waters near England’s most celebrated beaches are not seriously polluted.
D.Over two fifths of the regular beachgoers in UK are between 21 and 23.
33.What suggestion does the Department for Environment make to the government?
A.Reducing bonuses of water company managers.
B.Shutting down those rule-breaking water companies.
C.Fining rule-breaking water companies at least £250,000.
D.Introducing a sewage tax on water companies’ yearly profits.
34.What does the underlined part “off the hook” in Paragraph 3 probably mean?
A.Develop slowly. B.Improve too fast.
C.Free of responsibility. D.Attract public attention.
35.In which section of the website can you probably read the text?
A.Environment. B.Lifestyle. C.Fitness. D.Business.
【答案】32.B 33.D 34.C 35.A
Almost a quarter of the UK’s sea swimmers may not swim in the ocean this
year because of sewage (污水) dumping by water companies, according to a poll (民意调查).(一项民意调查显示,由于自来水公司的污水排放,英国近四分之一的海泳者今年可能不会在海里游泳。)”
over 30% said they typically went sea swimming during the summer, and of these 23% said they would not this
year because of sewage dumping by water companies.(超过30%的人表示,他们通常在夏天去海里游泳,其中
The Department for Environment has been calling for a sewage tax on
annual profits and a ban on bonuses of water company managers.(英国环境部一直呼吁对年度利润征收污水税,
Coastal communities are at the mercy of water companies who
unapologetically discharge raw sewage into popular swimming spots,” Tim Farron, the Department for
到热门的游泳场所,结合划线短语所在的句子“The government needs to stop letting water companies…(政府
Almost a quarter of the UK’s sea swimmers may not swim in the ocean this
year because of sewage (污水) dumping by water companies, according to a poll (民意调查). Sewage was dumped

Including children in the farming lifestyle has many benefits. Sure, it is nice to have the additional help with
chores, but it also fosters so much growth, sending our kids down a good path towards who they will someday
become. It is possible that our children will grow up to lead lives that do not include farming. 36
Through caring for farm animals, kids learn that in life others often come before self. 37 It doesn’tmatter if we don’t feel like it or if we are sick and tired. What matters is that we take care of the animals that take
care of us and do so in a timely manner.
38 If the work on a farm does not get done, the operation fails. It takes discipline and commitment to
get down to business every day, and seeing this in action will give kids a good work attitude. They will know and
understand that nothing good comes easy and that they have to work to survive. 39 Functioning as part of
a productive team will surely be playing a crucial role sooner or later in all walks of life.
Additionally, farming teaches patience. 40 It’s especially true for the animals. Cattle will be difficult
to control. Horses will run away when you try to catch them. Goats will kick over that bucket of hard-earned milk.
A rooster will decide you got too close to his hens and give you a run for your money. In spite of all that, kids will
learn to be patient and take things easy.
There may not be any instant reward, but in the long-term kids will see the benefit of all their efforts during
those hard days.
A.Fairly often, things do not go your way.
B.Kids also learn to be grateful to animals.
C.In the meantime, they learn to work with others.
D.Teamwork is no longer a significant skill to develop and use.
E.Animals need to be fed and cared for before we get to sit down and relax.
F.Kids are also able to comprehend the value of hard work through farm life.
G.What they learn on a farm, however, can be instrumental in their future lives.

kids learn that in life others often come before self.
比自己重要)”强调农场生活的好处,说明该空开始描述务农的重要性,G项“What they learn on a farm,
however, can be instrumental in their future lives.
It doesn’t matter if we don’t feel like it or if we are sick and tired. What matters is that we take
care of the animals that take care of us and do so in a timely manner.

be fed and cared for before we get to sit down and relax.

It takes discipline and commitment to get down to business every day, and seeing this in action will give kids a
good work attitude. They will know and understand that nothing good comes easy and that they have to work to
survive.
易,这些都是F项“Kids are also able to comprehend the value of hard work through farm life. (农场生活还会
教给孩子们艰苦劳动的价值)”中的“the value of hard work”。故选F。
Functioning as part of a productive team will surely be playing a crucial role sooner or later in all
walks of life.
的重要性,呼应C项“In the meantime, they learn to work with others. (同时,他们会学会与别人共事)”中的
“work with others”。故选C项。
It’s especially true for the animals. Cattle will be difficult to control. Horses will run away when
you try to catch them. Goats will kick over that bucket of hard-earned milk. A rooster will decide you got too close
to his hens and give you a run for your money.
A项“Fairly often, things do not go your way. (很多时候,事情不会按照你的设想发展)”总概

When students are interested in a lesson, they lean forward and look at me. People have a tendency 62
(lean) towards whatever they are interested in. So if a student has his head 63 (lower) to look at hiswatch, it implies he is bored and just counting the minutes for the class to end. If two friends are leaning their heads
together, they are 64 (probable) writing notes to each other. Of course, not everyone 65 looks
up is paying attention in class. Some students look up, but there is an 66 (absent) of eye contact. Their
eyes barely move, and they always have 67 same distant expression on their faces. It is as though they
are asleep 68 their eyes open.

Good afternoon, everyone!
____________________________________________________________________________________________
____________________________________________________________________________________________
_____________________________________________________
That’s all. Thank you!
Good afternoon, everyone!
It is my honor to be here to share my opinions about dreams with you.
As James Allen put it, “Dreams are the seedlings of realities.” Dreams inspire us to go after what we really
want in life and push us to reach new heights. A life without dreams is like a garden without flowers. So all of us
should first set great goals and then make careful plans to turn our dreams into realities. Though there will be a
number of challenges in front of us, we should never lose heart and give up.
If we try really hard, I believe we are sure to make our dreams come true.
