Not too many years ago, zoo visitors were unable to watch the behavior of night animals because these animals were active during the night and generally slept during the day when the zoo was open to visitors. But in the 1960s, zookeepers at the Bronx Zoo in New York city found a way to settle this problem and develop the system that we now use in our show. The animals living places are lit with white light at night. Then the animals think the white light is daylight, so of course they go to sleep. During the day, their living places are lit with red light, which makes the animals think it is at night so that they will be active. On the other hand, the red light enables visitors to watch these animals going about the normal activities at night. So just enjoy your visit to the World of Darkness and enjoy watching these amazing animals of the night. And remember, next month is the opening of World Down Under, a new show of Australian animals. Are you looking forward to learning about Australian animals in person? Well, you are lucky, just please come and join us for that event. A The hit Chinese video game Black Myth: Wukong has recently sparked a surge in tourism in North China’s Shanxi province. Late in September 1942, the Japanese military transported over 1,800 British prisoners of war from Hong Kong to Japan by ship. In the waters off Dongji Island, it was torpedoed (被 鱼 雷 击 中 ) by a US submarine. Fishermen from Zhoushan risked their lives to save 384 POWs. Fang was shocked. “How had we in China never heard of the Lisbon Maru? We know of the Titanic, but no one here ever mentioned the Lisbon Maru.” This mystery aroused Fang's curiosity, leading him to begin the search for the ship in 2016. During the journey, Fang learned of 94-year-old Lin Agen, the sole surviving fisherman to have participated in the rescue, and of a 98-year-old British soldier, Dennis Morley, who survived the ordeal. “I t felt like a race against time . We had to document their stories before it was too late,” Fang says. Fang launched a search for more survivors and their families. He placed ads in British newspapers like The Sunday Times and The Guardian. “People thought I was crazy — “Who even reads newspapers anymore? they 第 8页/共 26页said. But I knew that the elderly, like myself, still do,” Fang says. The campaign was a success, leading to BBC Radio 4 inviting him on a show, which in turn connected him with 380 POW families. On Aug 23, The Sinking of the Lisbon Maru premiered on Dongji Island, where the tragedy occurred. Fang wrote on his WeChat moments:“We finally showed the documentary on Dongji Island, the very place where our ancestors performed their heroic acts 82 years ago. I also received the honorary title of ‘Dongji Island Citizen’ — a privilege I treasure deeply.” 24. Where could you find the passage? A. In an academic journal. B. In a history report. C. In an entertainment magazine. D. In a film review. 25. What does Fang mean by “It felt like a race against time” in paragraph 3? A. He wanted to save every minute to finish the film. B. He wanted to solve the mystery as soon as possible. C. It was already too late for people in China to hear of the ship. D. It was vital to document the story before the witnesses passed away. 26. What can we learn from the passage? A. There was a natural disaster that destroyed the ship. B. Fang received doubt when placing ads in newspapers. C. Fang became a citizen of Dongji Island after the premiere of the film. D. The film was produced on Dongji Island where the tragedy occurred. 27. Which of the following is the best title for the passage? A. Fang Li: a Determined Director. B. Dongji Island: a Land of Heroes. C. Dongji Island Citizen: an Honorary Privilege. D. The Sinking of the Lisbon Maru: a Moving Tragedy. 【答案】24. C 25. D 26. B 27. 根据文章第二段“During the journey, Fang learned of 94-year-old Lin Agen, the sole surviving fisherman to have participated in the rescue, and of a 98-year-old British soldier, Dennis Morley, who survived the ordeal.(在旅途中,方励得知了 94 岁的林·阿根(Lin Agen)和 98 岁的英国士兵丹尼斯·莫利(Dennis Morley )的消息,后者是参与救援的唯一幸存者)”以及下文“We had to document their stories before it was too late (我们必须在为时已晚之前记录他们的故事)”可知,方励指的是必须与时间赛跑,在幸存的目击者去世之前, 及时记录他们的故事。故选 D。 【26 题详解】 推理判断题。根据文章第三段““People thought I was crazy — “Who even reads newspapers anymore? they said. But I knew that the elderly, like myself, still do,” Fang says.(“人们认为我疯了——‘现在还有谁看报纸 啊?’他们说。但我知道,像我这样的老年人仍然在看,”方励说。)”可知,方励在报纸上刊登广告时受到 了一些质疑。故选 B。 【27 题详解】 主旨大意题。短文讲述了导演兼制片人方励因制作纪录片《里斯本丸沉没》而广受关注的故事,并描述了 他为记录历史、搜寻资料和传递英雄事迹所做出的努力。所以标题为“方励:一位坚定的导演”。故选 A。 C Scientists have made an amazing discovery deep underground in South Africa. They found tiny living creatures called microbes in a rock estimating to be 2 billion years old! This rock was found almost 50 feet below the surface in a special place called the Bushveld Igneous Complex. This finding is very exciting because it shows the oldest known living microbes found in such extreme conditions, much older than any other microbes found before. The leader of the research team, Yohey Suzuki, said, “We didn't know if 2-billion-year-old rocks were habitable. Until now, the oldest geological layer in which living microorganisms had been found was a 100-million-year-old deposit beneath the ocean floor, so this is a very exciting discovery.” The rock sample was about 1 foot long and came from an area known for having a lot of valuable minerals. This area was formed when hot magma (岩浆) cooled down slowly underground. Because the rocks have stayed mostly the same for billions of years, they created safe little spaces, or cracks, where microbes could live and thrive. 第 10页/共 26页To make sure that the microbes they found were really from the old rock and not just something that got mixed in later, the scientists used some special tools to study them. They used three different methods called electron microscopy, fluorescent microscopy, and infrared spectroscopy to look closely at the microbes’ DNA and proteins, and were able to show that the microbes were alive and that they had lived in that rock for a very long time. Finding these ancient microbes helps scientists understand how life can exist even in extreme conditions. The researchers hope that by studying these ancient microbes, they can learn more about how life began on Earth and how it evolved over time. They are also curious to see if this can help them find signs of life on other planets, like Mars. 28. Why was the discovery of microbes thrilling? A. Because it proves the 2-billion-year-old rocks were inhabitable. B. Because it discovers the oldest known living microbes in the world. C. Because it reveals the world deep under the Bushveld Igneous Complex. D. Because it uncovers a 100-million-year-old deposit beneath the ocean floor. 29. What made it possible for microbes to survive? A. The extreme weather. B. The melting magma. C. The stable conditions. D. The diverse minerals. 30. What does paragraph 4 mainly focus on? A. The microbes they discovered. B. The discoveries they made. C. The research methods they applied. D. The organisms they mixed. 31. What may these ancient microbes help researchers to learn in the future? A. The study identified heartbeat “signatures”— wave patterns in the heart's electrical activity —that were linked with personality traits. People with certain heartbeat signatures scored higher on tests of neuroticism (神经过敏) — meaning these 第 12页/共 26页individuals tend to experience more negative emotions, such as anxiety and a depressed mood, and fewer positive emotions, including happiness and cheerfulness. The study involved 425 university students ages 18 to 33. The students completed personality tests, and had their heart electrical activity measured using electrocardiography (心电图). “With this method, we have found something that is perhaps more accurate, and more relatable, than many other measures of personality,” said study researcher Stefan Koelsch, a professor of biological psychology at the Freie University Berlin. The results suggest such heartbeat signatures may provide a more objective way to measure personality than current methods, the researchers say. Personality is commonly assessed using questionnaires, but these may suffer from bias — people may choose responses that they think are more acceptable for their gender, or they may misunderstand their own traits. Researchers may also be able to identify heartbeat signatures that are characteristic of certain emotional disorders, such as depression, or of cardiovascular diseases, Koelsch said. Such signatures could one day help diagnose these disorders, or identify people at risk for them, he said. Previously, Koelsch and colleagues found a link between certain heart electrical activity patterns and people with “cold” personalities, who tend not to show emotion. In the new study, similar patterns were seen among those with high scores in neuroticism and low scores in positive emotion, like compassion and empathy. Although Koelsch suspects that this type of electrical pattern is not particularly healthy, future research is needed to confirm this. Eventually, Koelsch hopes to be able to see whether certain interventions, such as listening to music or watching films, change emotional states and the heart's electrical activity, he said. 32. What does “signatures” refer to in Paragraph 1? A. The scores of neuroticism tests. B. People’s personality traits. C. The researchers’ written names. D. The wave patterns of your heart. 33. What do researchers think about the common assessment of personality? A. It is more objective and much healthier. B. It is likely to be prejudiced and misunderstood. C. It is based on heart electrical activity measures. D. It is more accurate and more relatable to people. 34. According to the study, what can be learned about “cold” people? A. They tend to score lower in neuroticism tests. B. They tend to suffer from cardiovascular disease. 第 13页/共 26页C. They tend to be less compassionate and empathetic. D. They tend to gain higher degrees in positive emotions. 35. What is the main idea of the passage? A. Heartbeats hint your personality traits. B. Heartbeat signatures heal depression. C. Heartbeats change your emotional states. D. Heartbeats indicates the electrical activity. 【答案】32. D 33. B 34. C 35. By building up your skills and practicing every day, you can make math a little less frustrating and have a higher chance of success. Use these tips and tricks during school, while you’re studying. Practice math in everyday situations. ___36___. For example, if a sweater that’s regularly $38 is on sale for 30% off, what is the sale price? ($26.60). Or if you need to double a recipe that calls for 3/4 cup of flour, how much flour will you need? (1.5 cups). Or, if you plan to hike a new trail that’s 7 miles long and it takes you 20 minutes to walk a mile, how long should you plan for your hike to take? (2 hours and 20 minutes). Use mental math if you can. Doing math in your head can help you remember key concepts. ___37___. However, math basics like addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division are ones you can do in your head. If you come across an easy problem, do it in your mind first before resorting to a calculator. If you’re worried about your mental math skills, you can always double check your answer on your computer. ___38___ You can find tons of example problems online. If you’re going over a concept, look it up and try 2 to 3 problems on your own. Check the answers to figure out if you got them right, and study the concept again if you didn’t. Your teacher might also be able to give you some extra example problems if you ask for them. ___39___ This will give you an overall sense of what you’ll need to do to find the solutions. Teach math problems or concepts to someone else. Learning by teaching someone is a great way to solidify concepts. It was during a summer between college terms, a time of uncertainty for my son. Benjy wanted to follow in my footsteps as a musician, but he was impatient for success. Talented as he was, often he took up one thing and his passion faded. I ached for him and wished I could say something. Taking a break, Benjy looked around our 15 acres with its stream, its trees, and its rolling grass. “This place is beautiful,” he said. “How did you get it?” I had long expected Benjy to ask about this, so I told him the story of the land. Gloria and I were teaching in a town where I had grown up. We wanted land so we could build a house to welcome our first baby. I noticed a parcel south of town where cattle grazed (吃草). It belonged to a 92-year-old retired banker named Mr. Yule, who owned a lot of land inthe area, but was selling none of it. He gave the same speech to everyone who inquired. “I promised the farmers they could use it for their cattle.” Nevertheless, despite being turned down so many times, Gloria and I persisted in visiting him at the bank, 第 24页/共 26页where he still spent his days. Then one day, after we claimed our names and intention, Mr. Yule looked up from his paper, pursed his lips and stared. “Gaither. Bill Gaither. Are you any relation to Grover Gaither?” “Yes, sir. He was my granddad.” Mr. Yule put down his paper and removed his glasses. Then he pointed to a couple of chairs, and we sat down. “Grover Gaither was the best worker I ever had on my farm, patient and persistent in everything,” he said. “Showed up early, stayed late, did whatever needed doing and never had to be told.” Mr. Yule squinted, his eyes distant with the memory. “What’d you say you wanted, Gaither?” I told him again. “Let me do some thinking on it, then come back and see me.” 注意: 1. 续写词数应为 150 左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题纸的相应位置作答。 Para1: We were in his office again within a week. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________ Para 2: I nodded at Benjy, “Yes, patience and persistence really matter.” ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________ 【答案】 Para 1: We were in his office again within a week. To our surprise, Mr. Yule greeted us warmly and informed us of his decision. “I’ve thought about it, Gaither. I’ll sell you that parcel of land,” he said with a firm voice, handing us the terms of the sale. The price was unexpectedly reasonable, and we were overjoyed. Before we could thank him, Mr. Yule added, “Your granddad taught me that good things come to those who are patient and persistent. I see the same quality in you.” With hard work and determination, we eventually built our home on that 第 25页/共 26页land, which marked the beginning of countless cherished memories. Para 2: I nodded at Benjy, “Yes, patience and persistence really matter.” Benjy looked thoughtful as he processed my words. “So, it’s not just about talent, but also about sticking to something and working hard for it?” he asked. I smiled, sensing a breakthrough. “Exactly, son. Success doesn’t come overnight. It’s about staying dedicated even when things get tough.” That afternoon, we kept working silently in the yard, but I could sense a shift in Benjy’s attitude. Later that evening, he played his guitar with renewed passion, as if he had rediscovered his purpose and the value of perseverance. ②考虑:think about/consider ③递给某人某物:hand sb. sth./pass sb. sth. 情绪类 ①惊讶:surprise/amazement ②喜出望外:overjoyed/very delighted 【点睛】【高分句型 1】Your granddad taught me that good things come to those who are patient and persistent.
