morning, every bruise, every step he had rehearsed in secret. When the music started,
something shifted— his body moved with a confidence he hadn't known he possessed. He
landed every move cleanly. When he finished, there was a moment of silence, then the coach
began to clap. His teammates followed. Mark looked toward the bleachers and spotted Darren
giving a thumbs-up. On the drive home, his phone buzzed— a message from the coach:
"Welcome to the team." For the first time in a long time, Mark felt he was exactly where he
