The Moment I Felt Proud of Myself
Last term, our class held an English speech contest. I was afraid to participate at first because I was poor at
spoken English and feared making mistakes.
With my teacher’s encouragement, I spent every evening practicing pronunciation and memorizing the speech.
On the contest day, I took a deep breath and spoke confidently. When I finished, the whole class cheered for me
loudly.
That moment, I felt extremely proud of myself. I realized that courage and persistence can help me overcome
my weaknesses. It also taught me that trying bravely is more important than never failing.

The next morning, Liam woke to the birdsong, not the phone alarm. He stretched and reached for his pillow
instinctively, only to remember his deal with Dad. Reluctantly, he got out of bed and walked to the kitchen, where
his phone lay quietly on the counter. His dad smiled and handed him a bowl of hot porridge. After breakfast, they
took out the old rocket kit. At first, Liam felt restless, glancing at the phone now and then. But as he helped Dad
assemble the parts, his focus gradually shifted. They laughed as they fixed a loose screw, and Liam found himself
enjoying the process more than he expected.By the time Sunday evening rolled around, Liam felt different. He and his dad had finished the rocket and
even went hiking in the afternoon, chatting about school and his old hobbies. Without his phone, he noticed the
colorful flowers by the trail and the sound of the stream. When he saw his phone on the counter that night, he didn’t
rush to pick it up. “I had fun this weekend,” he told his dad sincerely. His dad patted his shoulder proudly. Liam
realized that the world offline was far more wonderful than he thought, and he no longer needed his phone to fill his
time.
