A handshake is a brief greeting tradition. It is common all over the world. Most countries use
handshakes. Using the right hand is generally considered the proper manner. Different cultures
may be more or less likely to shake hands, or there may be different customs about how to shake
hands.
There are different customs about handshakes, both general and specific to certain cultures. The
handshake is commonly done upon meeting, greeting, parting, offering congratulations,
expressing thankfulness, or completing an agreement. In sports or other competitive activities, it is
also done as a sign of good sportsmanship. If a person shakes hands with a player, he wants to
show that he trusts and respects the player. If a handshake is done to form an agreement, the
agreement is not official until the hands are parted.
Usually a handshake is made with bare (空的) hands unless health issues or local customs
require. However, it depends on the situation.
In Russia, a handshake is performed by men and seldom performed by women.
In Switzerland, it may be expected to shake the women’s hands first.
Austrians shake hands when meeting, often including meeting with children.
In some areas such as Turkey or the Arabicspeaking Middle East, handshakes aren’t so often

Arabic world. You should only use your right hand as well.
