China's Artificial Sun Turns 20

China has a big machine called EAST. People call it the artificial sun. It sits on Science Island in Hefei, Anhui. On September 28, 2006, EAST ran for the first time. The hot gas inside it lasted about 3 seconds. China became the first country to build it.

Twenty years later, EAST has set a world record. In 2025, it kept a very hot gas for 1,066 seconds. The gas was 100 million degrees hot. That is longer than any other machine. Scientists have used EAST for over 160,000 tests.

Now China is building a new machine. Its name is BEST. Workers will try to finish it in 2027. One day, it may give people cleanpower.

Workers also saw four spoonbills. Spoonbills have long, flat beaks like spoons. The birds mixed with herons and egrets.

More birds will come in the next weeks. They will find food and rest at the lake. People must keep the lake clean and quiet for them.

This half moon is the closest one to Earth this year. So it looks a little bigger and brighter. Astronomers say there are thirteen last quarter moons in 2026. This one is the biggest.

The best time to see it is after midnight. Go to a place with open views to the east. Find a place with few city lights. You do not need a telescope. Just look up and enjoy the moon.
