DESCRIPTION
Visitors from all over the world travel to Big Cypress National Preserve to see if
they can catch a glimpse of Florida Panther (黑豹) at risk of extinction and watch
alligators (钝吻鳄) in the wild. They come to canoe(划独木丹) the water ways, hike in
the back country, go an off road driving, seek stunning scenery, and stop at the visitor centers to
learn more about the cycles of water and fire balance the swamp, pinelands, prairies, and cypress
domes across the Preserve’s 729,000 acres.
QUALIFICATIONS
All volunteers will have excellent teamwork skills. Volunteers in these roles hold an open
line of communication with their supervisors and fellow volunteers and park staff. Successful
volunteers can take direction as well as exercise good judgment observing preserve regulations.
For these positions a driver's license is necessary. Volunteers will be required to stand or walk
for extended periods of time. Bending and kneeling may also be required, Terrain (地形 ) may be
uneven, rough, or slippery.
You can help one day a week or one day a month, we want to work with your schedule. We
would just love to have people from the local communities helping to preserve and protect the
natural lands chat are in their backyards!
DUTIES
This volunteer will complete a variety of tasks, mainly within our headquarters building.
They will assist our facilities and maintenance department and also help on larger projects as
needed.

Growing up as a kid in the UK, I was fascinated by insects. Wanting to protect them, I
started building little houses for ants, using little pieces of wood and leaves.
I then moved on to making little cups and saucers from silver foil (箔纸) for the
magic creatures that I thought lived at the bottom of the garden. When my mother saw
my work, she told me that the smaller I made things, the bigger my name would become.
As the years went by, my designs became more complicated. And I used many different

materials, such as diamond fragments, eyelashes and even spider web threads.
I sometimes work for 16 hours a day without breaks, and it takes me up to three months to
finish a sculpture. I have to hold my breath during the sculpting process. It isn’t actually an easy
process — but I can enjoy it once I've finished it.
My sculptures have taken me to incredible places. In 2012, I met the queen and gave her a
tiny crown on the head of a pin. In 2013, I received my first Guinness World Record for creating
the smallest sculpture made by hand. It was a 24-carat gold motorbike that fitted inside a drilled
out hair. In 2017, I beat my record with a sculpture of a human fetus (胎) that measured
0.078mm by 0.053mm.
One time, a fly landed on a Cinderella carriage sculpture I was working on. The fly’s wings
blew it away, and it was lost, I was heart-broken. Another time, I accidentally breathed in a
microscopic Alice from Alice in Wonderland. Alice is now in Wonderland forever. But it did
give me the chance to make an even better one the second time around.
The microscopic world has always been my happy place. I've tried to make bigger
sculptures, but small is best for me. We need to appreciate the little things in life. Small things can
also be mighty, too.

Most of us in the entrepreneurial (企业家的) community are blessed—or cursed—with
higher-than-average ambition. Ambitious people strongly desire accomplishments and are
willing to take more risks and spend more effort to get them.
Overall, this is a positive quality, especially for people trying to build their own businesses.
Apparently, if you're more naturally driven to set goals, you are more likely to succeed.
Actually, this isn’t always the case. In fact, in some cases, extreme ambition may end up
doing more harm than good.
One major side effect of excessive ambition is the tendency to focus too determinedly on
one particular vision or end goal. This is problematic because it affects your ability to adapt to
new circumstances, which is vital if you want to be a successful entrepreneur. If a new competitor
emerges to threaten your business, you may need to change direction, even if that means not
sticking to your original vision. If you have too much ambition, you’ll find this hard, if not
impossible.

Few people are successful when they try to build their first brand. Unfortunately, for the
most ambitious entrepreneurs, a failure is seen as disastrous, and impossible to recover from. It’s
a clear departure from the intended plan toward the intended goal. For people with limited
ambition, however, failure is viewed as something closer to reality. Remember, failure is
inevitable, and every failure you survive is a learning experience.

As a student fascinated by technology, AI has reshaped my life. One practical
example is language-learning apps like Duolingo, which adapt exercises to my weaknesses

year’s lecture will focus on climate change and education. Our first guest, Keith Shine, a professor
of meteorology and climate science, will give a lecture on climate change. It’ll be from 3:30 pm to
4:10 pm. His talk will review our current understanding of climate change—what we know and
what we are not yet certain about. You can know how climate change occurs, its impacts and how
society responds to it through his lecture. Our second guest, Dr.Jo Anna Reed Johnson, is one of
the Directors for Climate and Sustainable Education at our college. She will follow up
Professor Shine’s talk about the role of education in understanding climate change. It’ll begin at
4:15 pm and end at 4:50 pm. This talk will focus on the importance of climate education in
building an understanding of climate change. After that it’s discussion time. It’ll last 30 minutes.
The two professors will answer questions collected from students. If you’re interested, go to Room
