One possible version:
Dear Chris,
Glad to know that you want to learn more about traditional Chinese
culture. I am writing to sincerely share with you insights into the Chinese
character Fu.
Fu, one of the time-honored characters in Chinese culture, traditionally
symbolizes good luck and prosperity. Nowadays, Fu also represents the shared
hope of our nation. Fu has always been a necessity in Spring Festival
celebrations. Either written, cut or printed, Fu is often seen on doors and
walls, sometimes upside down to signify “good fortune has arrived.” It’s also
featured in decorations, art, and commercial designs. Understanding Fu will
deepen your appreciation of Chinese culture and its rich traditions.
Wish you great progress and joy!
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节
One possible version:
All at once, an idea popped into her head. Maybe she could trick Dolly tothe shed with food! She thought, her eyes lighting up with renewed
determination. She quickly pulled up a bundle of grass and walked towards
Dolly. “Come on, Dolly,” she coaxed. But Dolly merely sniffed at the grass,
and trotted further away. Emma clenched her fists as frustration and
embarrassment swirled inside her. She chased Dolly across the yard, but the
stubborn goat clattered toward the tool shed. Emma froze, catching her breath,
hands on her knees.
Just at that moment, Grandma’s dresses and the straw hat hanging over a
chair caught her sight. An idea slowly dawned on her.“Maybe Dolly will
listen to… Grandma.” murmuring to herself, Emma slipped into the dress, and
placed the straw hat on her head. Mimicking Grandma’s steady walk and
soothing voice, she called, “Come on, Dolly. Time for milking!” To Emma’s
astonishment, Dolly began trotting toward her and stood still as Emma
carefully milked her, the creamy liquid splashing steadily into the bucket. A
grin spread across Emma’s face. She had done it.

Text 1
M: I enjoyed the film so much that I might see it again tomorrow.
W: I don’t like it. Its storyline and acting were some of the worst I had ever
seen.
M: But I think those special effects were incredible.
Text 2
W: What time should we check out?
M: Check-out time is at 11:00 a.m., but you can request a late check-out for
an extra £10. Should we do that?
W: Why not? Then we can sleep in and relax by the pool before we head to
the airport.
Text 3
W: Room service. What can I do for you?
M: Good morning. This is Room 113. I’d like some breakfast, please.
W: OK. What would you like?
M: I’d like some bread and a cup of coffee, please.
Text 4
M: Will you take a holiday after your operation next week?
W: Not really. Thanks to modern medical technology, the recovery time for
my operation is only a few days. My doctor says I should be fine to fly to
Germany forthat important sales meeting next month.
Text 5
W: We are going to be late. We have to be at the restaurant by 7:30 for the
surprise party.
M: It’s only 6:45 now and the rush hour is almost over. We are on time.
Don’t worry.
Anyway, the actual party doesn’t start until 8:00.
Text 6
M: Welcome back to class, everyone! Well, today we are going to talk about life in the
future.
W: What do you think we’ll eat in the future? What will the food be like, in your
opinion?
M: Well, in my opinion, foods like vegetables and meat will be almost the same in the
future as they are now. But, unbelievable as it may sound, in the future we could be
eating insects—insects are rich in protein, low in fat and a good source of calcium,
which can help to build up bones and teeth.
W: How about work in the future?
M: Well, it does seem that humans will no longer be operating machines. For
example, taxis will most likely be replaced by selfdriving cars. There will also
probably be a number of new kinds of jobs, such as computer engineers, workers
repairing selfdriving cars and space tour guides. I’m sure that as long as you study
hard, you needn’t worry about being fired!
W: What do you think love will be like in the future?
M: Well, I don’t think I have enough knowledge to talk on that topic—and you all are
a bit young to be worrying about that! Why don’t we let someone else in the class
ask a question?
Text 7
M: So the house is $1000 a month to rent?
W: Yes, and it comes with all the furniture you will need, so you won’t need
to buy anything.
M: What about the bills? How much are they?
W: Electricity is about $200 a month, and the water bill is about half of that.
M: The house is not very big.
W: No, but it uses the space well. The last person who rented it found it
very comfortable.
M: Cool. I haven’t had a chance to explore the area. Are there any shops?
W: Yes, there’s a shopping center which is a 10-minute walk away.
M: I’m considering buying a car. Is there any parking space?W: Yes, the apartment has its own car park.
M: OK. I’ll talk with my friend and come back to you later today.
W: Better be quick. I have three other people coming to see it today.

M: Hi, mom. I’m calling because I’m thinking of changing my path at
university.
W: How so, Bobby?
M: I want to study sports science instead of medicine.
W: Interesting. Does this mean you will also play on your university sports
team?
M: No, mom. I will just change my courses. Sports science means studying
exercise’s
benefits for the mind and the body.
W: Well, you’ve already loved doing exercise and helping others. Would this
help you
coach some teams?
M: Many coaches have studied sports science. But I’d like to help others by
advising individual athletes.
W: This sounds like a great plan, Bobby.
M: But mom it will be a big change. I’m a bit nervous.
W: During university, I decided to study nursery. Until this day I’m glad I
chose this path. And throughout my long career, I’ve gotten to help many
patients. So I will say, “Go for it, Bobby!”
M: Thanks for your support, Mom.
Text 9
M: Why don’t you use the new phone I bought for you?
W: I’m 60 years old. The smart phone is beyond me.
M: No, the smart phone can make your life much easier. And you learned
how to use
a computer five years ago. Now, you’ve seen how useful and helpful it is,
right?
W: Yes, but I learned to use a computer mainly to make video calls with
family members. What would I need the smart phone for?
M: Well, everything you do with computers can be done on smart phones.
Won’t carrying a phone around be more convenient than a computer?
W: You made the point.
M: What’s more, just with your phones, you can do shopping, pay all the bills
and share your life with others on social media if you like.W: OK. You’ve talked me into it. Can you show me how to use the phone
first?

Hello, it’s Bradley, your favorite weatherman and I am here to tell you
what is happening with the weather in England this week. Today is April 1,
Monday. Unfortunately, the rain that we have had all through March is going
to continue for at least the next four days. Today and Tuesday will see light
rain and the occasional spot of sun. Well, on Wednesday and Thursday, we
will see an increase in rain as more clouds will come in from the Atlantic
Ocean. Don’t forget your rain jacket and umbrella if you are going out. Then
on Friday, a cold front is going to come down from Scotland, bringing with it
the great chance of snow in many places in England, especially in London.
However there is some good news. The long term forecast suggests that by
the middle of the month, we will see less rain and a high chance of sun with
temperatures gradually rising above zero. That’s all from me. Here’s Mark with
the latest sports news. After that Alan will bring you the music show.
