After my birth, my mother hid my existence for two years by placing me in a children’s home. Eventually,
when she introduced me to her strict family, she claimed that I was an adopted child. I imagine that she tried to
save face and avoid judgment as well as rejection. Being left in a place without a mother during those formative
years of my life came at a great personal cost. It is understandable that I felt annoyed when my therapist (治疗师)
helped me understand the psychological implications of my mother’s actions.
During 20-some years of therapy, I labored to unearth, express, and work through such a difficult beginning. I
saw a number of wonderful and kind therapists. Gradually, as I have healed from my childhood wounds, I have
been lucky enough to enjoy marriage and the family that I haven’t experienced.
What finally moved the needle and allowed for a new relationship with her to be improved was finding a calm
place inside myself. I discovered a sense of inner security that had always been there, and that could be found when
I gave the relationship time and space. Gradually and naturally the capacity for understanding and compassion for
my mother emerged. I was slowly able to let go of burdensome anger. Resting in the spacious room to focus on
myself gave me a sense of fullness and ease allowing healing to occur, as if I had been wounded and placed into a
hyperbaric (高压的) oxygen room to heal my injuries.
Fifteen years ago, my mother passed away in our garden cottage. At that time, my three children were present
to say goodbye, and I was able to be by her side during her final moments. Reflecting on this, I am thankful that our
relationship improved over the years. Additionally, I am grateful that our trans-generational experience has had a
beneficial impact on her grandchildren and their perspective on life.
4. What was affected by the author’s childhood wounds?
A. The ability to relieve loneliness. B. The courage to express rejection.
C. The development of her character. D. The relationship with her husband.
5. How did the author find a calm place inside herself?
A. By ignoring anger and upset intentionally. B. By receiving hyperbaric oxygen treatments.
C. By trying to be compassionate about her mom. D. By relaxing herself to gain a self-awareness.
6. Which of the following words can best describe the author’s experiences?
A. Dull yet unforgettable. B. Effortless yet fulfilling.
第 4页/共 16页C. Challenging yet common. D. Unlucky yet instructive.
7. What can be a suitable title for the text??
A. The Healing Power of Therapy B. A Journey from Anger to Compassion
C. The Importance of Family Acceptance D. A new perspective on life
C
“Girls are weak, and boys are strong. This is what is being subconsciously communicated to hundreds of
millions of young boys and girls all over the world, just like it was with me,” said American actor Justin Baldoni.
As a boy, all he wanted was to live up to the social standard and get recognition, which meant he had to pretend to
be strong when he was weak, confident when he felt insecure, and tough when he was actually hurting.
Is that a healthy lifestyle? A member of the United States Congress might say “yes”. In his proposal, he spoke
of a need to “prevent the feminization (女性化) of male youths”. In response to his call, the US Department of
Education has recently demanded that schools should hire more physical education teachers to cultivate masculinity
in students. The response has been widely debated online, with many people saying that it strengthens gender
stereotypes (刻板印象). A post on the Facebook said, “Education is not simply about cultivating men and women.
It’s more important to develop a willingness to take responsibility.”
You might be wondering now: What is masculinity, and why is this so controversial? Well, by itself,
“masculinity”, which is often associated with strength, courage, confidence, and emotional control, refers to the
qualities traditionally considered to be typical of men. Sometimes, however, these seemingly admirable qualities
can be extended in unrealistic ways. Blindly asking boys to control their feelings “like a man” can only increase
their stress when they grow up.
Attaching more importance to physical education would definitely benefit students, providing physical fitness
and lifelong skills. However, putting the emphasis on masculinity is far from a sound reason for which to do so. It
is unnecessary for all boys to build up their muscles, but it is essential that they all learn how to be strong inside. It
is also fine for boys to cry and to show their weakness. Schools should work on equipping students with the skills
and values they will need to be successful in life, not strengthening stereotypes of masculinity borrowed from a
bygone age.
8. Why did young Justin Baldoni have to pretend to be what he was actually not?
A. It was a necessity for him to be a good actor. B. He wanted to be accepted as a true man.
C. He wanted to cultivate a good personality. D. He was trying to be strong and confident.
9. Why should schools hire more physical education teachers according to the US Department of Education?
第 5页/共 16页A. To respond to the call of the society. B. To improve teaching methods in schools.
C. To develop manly qualities in students. D. To build up students’ steady strength.
10. What is the public’s opinion of the official demand?
A. It ignores the real core of education. B. It promotes the development of physical education.
C. It prevents the feminization of male youths. D. It strengthens the understanding of male images.
11. What does the author want to say in the article?
A. We should do our part to guarantee students’ physical health.
B. It is time to strengthen tough qualities of male youths.
C. Schools should distinguish between boys and girls while educating them.
D. Preparing students with competitiveness in life outweighs masculinity.
D
An international team of experts announced threats from climate change and habitat loss have outpaced our
ability to protect species in their natural habitats, making urgent action necessary. A biorepository (生物仓库) of
preserved cells, and the crucial DNA within them, could be used to enhance genetic diversity in small populations
of critically endangered species, or to clone and create new individuals in the worst case of extinction.
A repository to safeguard biological samples from disaster is not a new idea. The Svalbard global seed bank
on a remote Norwegian island in the Arctic Circle provides frozen storage of seeds to ensure important food crops
can be re-established if wiped out by disease or drought. Recent flooding as a result of warm temperatures,
however, has proven that not even Svalbard is safe from the effects of worsening climate. The destruction of
Ukraine’s seed bank in the war with Russia also poses a threat to biorepositories on Earth.
The proposed lunar biorepository would be a good choice. The moon’s freezing environment means it can
provide favorable conditions to preserve the samples year-round without the need for human involvement or an
energy source.
“In order for cloning to be an option, one needs cells that are alive,” said Hagedorn, a professor of ecology and
evolutionary biology involved in the lunar biorepository. “This means it is not possible to clone an animal from
only DNA parts, but deextinction is possible if tissue samples are collected and stored in a way that ensures the
cells stay alive.”
Given the costs and challenges involved, critics may suggest efforts should focus on preserving species before
they come extinct. However, Hagedorn made his point. “When we think linearly, and not in parallel, we get in
trouble. If you say: I’m going to do it this way, and it doesn’t work, what’s plan B? We know how to do it and can
第 6页/共 16页do it and will do it, although it may take decades to finally achieve.”
With so much of the proposal still in the area of science fiction, the scientists say they hope their paper will
generate excitement, new ideas and new international partners — and perhaps a little controversy — about the
extreme actions necessary to protect biodiversity.
12. What disqualifies the existing repository for conservation of biological samples?
A. Lack of human involvement. B. Large consumption of energy source.
C. The climate breakdown. D. The inconvenient position.
13. What does the underlined word “deextinction” in Para 4 refer to?
A. Rebirth of species. B. Expansion of ecology.
C. Creation of DNA samples. D. Protection of endangered animals.
14. What do Hagedorn’s words in Para 5 mainly indicate?
A. The lunar biorepository prioritizes the existing one on earth.
B. A backup strategy is necessary to ensure the conservation of species.
C. Preserving species before they come extinct is time-consuming.
D. Controversial opinions may cause trouble with preserving species.
15. What’s the purpose of the proposal made by the scientists?
A. To sparkle further exploration in how to protect biodiversity.
B. To cope with Earth-based disasters faced by the species.
C. To build a biorepository of preserved fossils of endangered species.
D. To develop a technique to enhance genetic diversity.

Each year, the biannual (一年两次的) daylight saving time adjustments, a practice that has been in place for
quite some time, significantly influence people’s daily lives. As spring rolls around, the clock is advanced by an
hour, and come autumn, it is turned back to its original setting. ____16____
During these transitions, individuals frequently struggle with a range of issues. Sleepiness becomes a common
companion, as the body struggles to adapt to the altered time schedule. ____17____ Moreover, an increase in
accidents, both on the roads and in workplaces, has been observed.
Biologically the human body operates on an internal clock known as the circadian rhythm, which is
第 7页/共 16页regulated by the light-dark cycle. In the morning, the first rays of sunlight act as a natural alarm, causing the body
to produce cortisol (皮质醇) . ____18____ This hormone is a key player in regulating sleep, making us fall into a
state of rest.
However, daylight saving time throws this finely-tuned natural rhythm into disorder. ____19____ A growing
body of research has clarified some concerning trends. It has been shown that this time change can lead to sleep
problems, such as insomnia and disrupted sleep patterns. There is also an increased risk of strokes and heart
diseases, as the body’s stress response may be affected.
____20____ They believe that standard time is more in tune with the body’s natural rhythm, providing a more
stable and healthier environment for our bodies to function.
A. In contrast, as night falls, the body responds by producing melatonin.
B The sudden shift in the light-dark cycle makes it difficult for the internal clock to adjust.
C. Meanwhile, feelings of depression may surface, affecting mental well-being.
D. More and more people are gradually adopting daylight saving time.
E. This seemingly simple time change, however, brings about a host of consequences.
F. Given these findings, many scientists advocate a standard time throughout the year.
G. Therefore, a new schedule is desperately needed.

worried. “Does this mean our swim team is canceled?” Noah asked. Coach Abby comforted us, saying we’d still
practice, but she wasn’t sure how the meets would be funded.
The next morning, practice felt strange. None of us were swimming our best, and even Coach Abby was
worried. During a break, Noah suggested, “If we can’t run the Snack Bar, maybe we can think of other ways to
raise money. ”
“Good idea. ” said Ruby. She suggested a karaoke sing-along (卡拉 OK) like what her brother did to raise
funds for his school singing club. Tamara recommended a bake sale. “A. fall festival would be fun!” I added,
thinking we could have water-themed games on grounds by the swimming pool.
At first, Coach Abby hesitated. But when she saw how excited we were, she agreed, “OK! Let’ s go for it!”
We quickly began brainstorming ideas for our Support for Pool Party.
“I’ll bring my karaoke machine. ” Ruby offered. “We could make the microphone look like a fish!” someone
added. I suggested a “Fun in the Sun” lemonade stand, and everyone jumped in to help. Soon, we had a plan for the
best fundraiser ever, complete with a starfish cookie bake sale. We were ready to make it happen! We spent so
much time getting everything ready and talking up our fundraiser to everyone we met that we were positive it
would be a great success.
The day before our big event, I was squeezing lemons for lemonade when I saw a very dark cloud outside the
kitchen window. “Uh-oh! That’s not a rain cloud, is it?” I asked my mom. “Rain would be a disaster! It could ruin

第 15页/共 16页【答案】Dear Tom,
I’m thrilled to share the video showcasing my campus life! I captured scenes from our lively classes, science
lab experiments, and a basketball match to reflect students’ daily routines. Additionally, I filmed the library and art
club activities to highlight our academic and creative growth. I choose these moments to give you an authentic
glimpse of our daily routines and the lively and energetic atmosphere here.
I truly enjoy my campus life. Though challenging, it’s fulfilling to study with motivated peers and participate
in diverse activities. Every day brings new opportunities to learn and bond with friends, making school a brilliant
part of my youth.
Hope this video helps you understand our school culture better. Looking forward to your feedback!
Best wishes!

The next day, I arrived at the pool grounds early. People were already starting to arrive, their faces filled with
anticipation. The atmosphere was electric with excitement. The lemonade stand was bustling, with people lining up
to taste our “Fun in the Sun” special. Tamara’s starfish cookies were a huge hit, disappearing almost as quickly as
they were put out. Unluckily, clouds started to gather. Before we knew it, the rain was pouring down, making it
difficult for everyone to seek shelter near the pool.
Facing the sudden rain, we were relieved that we had prepared the big umbrellas. Quickly, we set them up
over the karaoke machine, lemonade stand, and bake sale tables. Despite the weather, people didn’t seem to mind.
They huddled under the umbrellas, continuing to enjoy the activities and support our cause. By the end of the day,
we had made more money than we had ever imagined, and everyone left with a smile on their face. It was a
reminder that with preparation, creativity, and a positive attitude, even the worst-case scenarios can turn into
unforgettable successes.
