The following are the results. The figures in the chart show that only 4% of students surveyed spend over half an hour on sports every day. Additionally, those who engage in sports from twenty to thirty minutes and less than twenty minutes are more, accounting for 60% and 30% respectively. By contrast, 6% of them have reported that they never do sports. As we can see, most students don’t prioritize physical activity in their daily life, which perhaps arises from great academic pressure. As she approached her classroom, Sally could no longer hear the laughter that used to fill the room. Everything was so quiet. The door was tightly closed. A wave of confusion washed over her as she stepped hesitantly into the room, her heart pounding. The classroom was in total darkness. With a puzzled frown on her face, she struggled to find her way, trying to reached for the light switch, but in vain. Just at that moment, a click of the light switch was followed by a chorus of voices, breaking the silence in the classroom. “Surprise!” With the light suddenly on, a touching scene unfolded and the secret was finally revealed. Her classmates, led by Jane and Maria, jumped out. The classroom was decorated with balloons and streamers. At the sight of a beautiful cake and the presents waiting to be unwrapped, Sally broke into a radiant smile. She turned towards Jane, who was grinning from ear to ear. “We knew you couldn’t have a party this year, so we decided to bring one to you,” Jane exclaimed. The cloud of confusion lifted from Sally’s mind, replaced with joy and gratitude. Cutting the cake, Sally realized that this was indeed a grand birthday party, just like the ones she used to have. 听力原文 Text 1 学科网(北京)股份有限公司W: What do you think will happen? Will it create smoke like last time? M: Well, it won’t catch fire if that’s what you’re worrying about! W : Okay, let’s add this acid to the test tube. Oh, nothing happened! Text 2 W : Why do the adverts come on just when the film is getting good? M : The whole film has been bad, so there’re no complaints from me. I hate it more when the adverts come on just before the football kicks off on the sports channel . Text 3 M : I love your grandma’s cake , but each bite makes my mouth burnt. What did she put in it? Hot peppers? W : Lots of dried fruit and nuts, which are obviously fine ... But she also poured a lot of wine all over it! M : Oh ... that’s why! Text 4 W : There’s way too much plastic in your rubbish. I believe all plastic should be recycled. M : Unfortunately, my local council only takes certain plastics away to be recycled. They don’t currently recycle this thinner type of plastic. That means I have to put it all with the regular rubbish. Text 5 M : In this activity, you have to shoot the arrows at the balloons. W : What are they worth? M : Hit one and you get one point. If you hit a second balloon, you get a further five points. If you hit a third balloon, you get another ten points! Text 6 M : I’ m trying to count the calories I eat so I can watch my weight. Each day, I have to note down what I’ve eaten in a special book to see if I take in too much energy. W : Why? You don’ t have to impress anybody, and you aren’t overweight. M : I know, but I’m running the London Marathon next spring, and I just want to be in the best shape I possibly can. W : If you’re preparing for a marathon, you need to eat more calories than your body uses, not less ! You’ll need the energy for those long runs in training, or you’ll be very tired and ill. Text 7 M : I’m so glad we didn’t go to South Africa because this holiday to India has been fantastic! But I wish these annoying mosquitos would go away. W : I feel the same way. Before we planned our holiday, I was worried about being eaten by tigers or hurt by elephants. Instead, I’ve been bitten all over by these tiny creatures! That’s really crazy! M : At least it’s been nice and sunny. The scene was fascinating and charming, wasn’t it ? W : It’s been way too hot! I thought that we’d get some thunder and rain since the south has a tropical climate , but I’ve not seen a cloud for a whole week! M : Ha-ha! The weather was always changeable. Oh well, we’ll go back to China tomorrow! I’m looking forward to another surprise! Text 8 M : Hello, madam, are you ready to order? W : Not quite. I’m having trouble reading the menu because it is written in French. 学科网(北京)股份有限公司M : Yes, madam, that is because this is a French restaurant. W : I know that. I just thought that since we’re in England, the menu might be translated into English. There is an excellent Spanish restaurant around the corner, and all their meals are written in English. M : I appreciate your feedback and I’ll talk to our manager about that. Maybe I could recommend a dish for you? What about boiled potatoes served with fresh vegetables and the finest chicken from northern France? W : No, thank you. That doesn’t sound very appealing to me as I don’t eat meat. M : Ah, perhaps you would prefer fried potatoes served with garlic bread and a fruit salad with mushrooms and a fruit salad with mushroom. W: I just want a fruit salad. But could you ask the chef to take the mushrooms out? I don’t like the taste of them. M : Yes , of course. Text 9 M : Welcome to your first day on the job. How are you feeling? Excited? W : A little bit nervous really. M : Oh, you needn’t be. Everyone is nice here. Okay, so let me show you where you’ll be working. Follow me ... W : Wow, this whole office is just for me? M : Yes, it joins on to mine through that door over there. When clients arrive, they wait outside in the waiting room and the receptionist will show them through when you are ready ... Over here are your computers. W : Oh, wow, three screens! M : Yes, one is mainly for running our security program which you’ll have training on later today. The other two are for administration, word processing, and the various marketing projects the clients need you to work on. Don’t worry, I know it’s a lot to take in! We’ll go through it all bit by bit. W : Thank you. I know it’s a lot, but to be honest, I can’t wait to get started. M : Great. Well, shall we start things off by going through those wooden double doors? It’s where all the staff gather every morning. W : Is that a big meeting room behind the double doors? M : No, it’s where we have the best hot drinks machine in the world! Come on, let’s start the day off with a nice coffee. Text 10 There was a man who had taught in tough inner-city American schools for over 30 years. He was Mr. Smith. When he retired, he traveled to a small country in Africa called Burundi. He set up a small school in a rural part of the country. It was in a village with no main roads or fresh running water. When the boys in the village reached the age of seven, they would join their fathers to hunt for food, while girls would learn how to look after the home with their mothers. When the school was built, the villagers shook their heads. “Why would we need a school ?” they said. But out of curiosity, the children attended the school, and instantly realized that they loved to learn new things! That was over twenty years ago. Now the village has shops and fresh running water. Many children have grown up and found well-paying jobs in the city or overseas. I am one of those children. After being taught by Mr. Smith, I went to university in England and now I work for a national newspaper.
