Passage 1
The Secret Garden tells the story of Mary Lennox, a spoiled and selfish girl. After her
parents die, she goes to live with her uncle, Mr Craven, in a big house. Mary feels
bored and lonely until she finds a hidden key to a secret garden. The garden has been
locked for ten years since Mr Craven’s wife died.
With the help of her friend Dickon, Mary brings the garden back to life. Later, she
meets her cousin Colin, who is weak and unhappy because he thinks he is ill. Mary and
Dickon take Colin to the garden secretly. The fresh air and friendship make Colin
stronger. Finally, he stands up and walks. When Mr Craven returns, he is surprised by
the changes in Colin and the garden.
