The Sahara Desert is the largest hot desert in the world. It is about 9 600 000 square kilometers in size. This
is almost the size of the America or China. The desert covers eleven countries in the north of Africa.
The Nile runs through the Sahara Desert all year round. But there are also other rivers running through it
seasonally (季节性地). The geography of the desert includes huge sand dunes (沙丘) and dune fields. Some of the

It is very hot and dry in the Sahara Desert. The temperature there is usually 30℃. However, during the

What’s your favourite animal? For me, I love dolphins very much. When we think about dolphins, we think of
kind, friendly and smiling animals. We might also think of many stories of dolphins saving people from water, or
even the songs and stories about their wonderful skills. Then have you watched
dolphin shows before? Watching dolphin shows in ocean parks is popular in some
countries. People think the dolphins look lovely and friendly. But at the same
time, we need to think about some terrible facts.
First, where are the dolphins from? Some ocean parks get the dolphins in a secret way. For example, they
buy the dolphins at lower prices from fishermen. They catch, kill and sell the dolphins without following the
government’s rules. Second, dolphins show more and more strange behavior because they get so bored with
living in the small pools in the ocean parks. They may hurt their teeth by biting something. And they get sick
easily because of their bleeding teeth.
It’s time for us to find out the truth behind the animal shows. If they belong to the ocean, how can they live
happily and healthily in the ocean parks? Dolphins are our friends, so we should try our best to provide them with
a comfortable place.
31. What are dolphins like according to this passage?
①friendly ②lovely ③quiet ④ kind

C. There are dolphin shows in every ocean park.
D. Some ocean parks get dolphins from fishermen for free.
35. What does the passage mainly want to tell us?
A. People should stop watching dolphin shows.
B. Farmers should buy dolphins with the government’s permission.
C. People should try to protect dolphins.
D. There are many good facts behind the dolphin shows.

Animals are natural resources that people have wasted all through our history. Animals have been killed for
their fur and feathers, for food, for sport, and simply because they were in the way. Thousands of kinds of animals
have disappeared from the earth forever. Hundreds more are on the danger list today. About 170 kinds in the
United States alone are considered in danger. Why should people care? Because we need animals, and because
once they are gone, there will never be any more. Animals are more than just beautiful or interesting. They are
more than just a source of food. Every animal has its place in the balance of nature. Destroying one kind of animal
can create many problems. For example, when farmers killed large numbers of hawks, the farmers' stores of corn
and grain were destroyed by rats and mice. Why? Because hawks eat rats and mice, with no hawks to keep down
their numbers, the rats and mice multiplied quickly. Luckily, some people are working to help save the animals.
Some groups raise money to let people know about the problem. And they try to get the governments to pass laws
protecting animals in danger. Quite a few countries have passed laws. These laws forbid the killing of any animal
or plant on the danger list. Slowly, the number of some animals in danger is growing.
36. Why did people waste natural resources?
A. People cut the trees.
B. People killed animals for their fur , feather and food and so on.
C. People protected all kinds of little animals.
D. People got used to looking after animals.
37. Animals are important to us mainly because________.A. they give us a source of food

C. they keep the balance of nature
D. they give us a lot of pleasure
38. We can infer from the passage that_________.
A. people have known the importance of animal protection since a long time ago
B. many countries passed laws forbidding the killing of any animal
C. the number of hawks is on the decrease
D. animals play an important role in people's life
39. What is the meaning of the underlined word"multiplied"in the passage?A
A. Became more. B. Became less. C. Turned black. D. Ate food.
40. What is the best title for the passage?
A. Save the Animals B. Useful Animals
C. Laws for Animals D. Animals in Danger
第二节、阅读还原(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
阅读短文及文后选项,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。
People often think doing nothing is quite easy, but sometimes it can be very hard. Many of us want to help
wild animals when they seem to be in trouble. 41 In fact, the best thing to do is leave the animals
alone. Wild animals are stronger than we think. This protects both you and the animal.
Young wildlife usually are not alone, even if (即便) a parent is not around. For example, baby birds often
leave the nest before they can fly, jumping around on the ground for days. 42
By trying to help wildlife, you might hurt them. A man in Georgia saw a manatee (海牛) out of the water.
43 So he pushed it back into the water. Scientists said the manatee was possibly just enjoying the sun on a
warm day.
44 Even professional (专业的) people get hurt sometimes. Manatees may look slow, but there is a
lot of energy hiding within their thick fur.
45 You’ll know a wild animal needs help if it has a broken leg or is caught in a man-made trap (陷
阱). If so, call a professional wildlife rescuer (救援者). They know how to help wild animals.
In a word, the best way is to leave wildlife alone, whenever possible, keeping them truly wild.A. He thought the manatee was trapped.
B. Your “help” may also hurt you.
C. But we need to stop doing so.
D. Sometimes wildlife certainly needs our help.
E. You’d better help the wild animals at once.
F. At the same time the parents may be getting food somewhere else.
