Today, something happened that made Ryan extremely angry. During a group discussion, Michael
called Ryan’s idea stupid in front of their classmates. Ryan tried to speak up for himself, but Michael
got the others to laugh at him.
Upset, Ryan went to his best friend, Jerry, and told him everything. After listening carefully, Jerry
suggested that Ryan write a letter to Michael.
“You can tell him how you feel directly,” Jerry said. Ryan wrote a letter angrily at once and
showed it to Jerry.
“This is just what I expected! You wrote it really well, Ryan,” Jerry said with a big smile.
But as Ryan was going to send the letter, Jerry stopped him. “What are you going to do with
it?” Jerry asked.
“Send it, of course.” Ryan replied, confused.
“Don’t be silly,” Jerry said, “You can’t send this letter. Burn it. That’s what I do with the
letters I write when
I’m angry. Writing it helped you release your anger, right? Now that you feel better, write another letter
— this time with a clear head.” Ryan followed Jerry’s advice.
When people are angry, their words and actions can get out of control. Anger can hurt others and
even hurt yourself. So, when you feel yourself burning with anger, take a deep breath. Stay calm, think
clearly, and act wisely to avoid bad results.

friends. At my first practice, I enjoyed it. When I started winning prizes, I realized I had a talent for the high
jump.
J: What is your favourite thing about the high jump?
D: My favourite thing about the high jump is that it makes me feel like I’m flying. People always ask me,“How
do you do that? ” It’s just physics. You run, you get power to jump, and you fly over the pole.

feel about myself, and try to think of good things.
J: What prize is the most unforgettable for you?
D: Last year I finished third at our National Sports Meeting. I was really excited. No one was expecting anything
