Good morning, everyone,
My name is Li Hua. I recall a time when I was homesick during my stay
here. Coincidentally, I heard a Chinese folk song. The familiar melody
instantly warmed my heart and dispelled my loneliness.
It's not until we are in a vulnerable state that we truly realize how powerful
music can be, which acts as a bridge connecting our inner feelings with the
outside world. Moreover, with its intangible charm, music has the ability to
heal our hearts like a gentle healer. Let's embrace its magic.
Thanks for listening.

M: Hello, this is Ultimate Computers. We would like to fax some information about after-sales
service to you. Could you get it now?
W: I’m sorry. The fax won’t be working until 2:30. It’s 1:30. Could you try sending it an hour later?
M: All right.
Text 2
M: We’re going to move out of our apartment, although it’s near my company and the school.
W: I see. With three kids growing up, that apartment is too small.
Text 3
M: What is the schedule for tomorrow?
W: Let me see. You’ll have a meeting with Bill Smith at ten in the morning. Then you’ll have an
appointment with Mr. Cooper at seven in the evening.
Text 4
W: Do you have your Christmas shopping done yet?
7M: Almost. I got a train model for my son, but I can’t seem to find anything for my wife. She
would like a book or a case for her coin collection.
Text 5
M: I have to go to the toilet quite frequently.
W: Well, it sounds as if you’ve picked up a stomach infection. Let me check your temperature and
blood pressure.
Text 6
M: Honey, your dress looks beautiful! When did you buy it?
W: I designed it myself. Are you ready? It’s ten o’clock now. We only have half an hour to get to
the hall.
M: Don’t worry. Your watch is five minutes fast. Help me with my tie. I’m scared to death. This
will be the first time I have made a speech in public.
W: Don’t worry. I’ll cheer you on by your side.
Text 7
W: You look upset. What’s the matter, Paul?
M: I locked my keys in the car, but I have to go to the airport to pick up my aunt.
W: So, what are you going to do?
M: I don’t know. Could I borrow your car for a few hours?
W: I’m sorry, but I need to drive it to the hospital this afternoon. Do you have spare keys at home?
I could drive you home now.
M: Yes. That will be great.

W: Hello, everyone. Today, we’re glad to invite Mr. Hunter to our show. He has been a journalist
since twenty years old. He’s going to share something about the telephone interview with us.
M: Hi! To conduct a telephone interview, first, you need to get everything ready before the
interview. Write down the questions you want to ask and make sure you won’t miss anything
important.
W: OK. What else shall we do?
M: Well, when you do the interview, the first thing to do is tell them your name and workplace.
W: But what if they are too busy with their work?
M: That’s a very good question. You can tell them the purpose of the interview before they hang
up. W: Then I can start the interview if they agree to give it, right?
M: Yes, but be sure to take notes carefully and quickly while listening.
W: OK. Thank you very much, Mr. Hunter.

M: Miss Nancy, I’ve heard that you worked in Quebec for about four years before you came to
Paris. Can you tell me something about Quebec?
W: Well, of course. The city of Quebec is the capital of Quebec Province. It lies in the northern
part of Canada. It’s the ninth biggest city in the
country. M: I see. What’s the climate like there?
W: Oh, it’s very comfortable. It’s fairly warm in spring, and in summer it’s mostly bright and
sunny. Fall is the most beautiful season. It’s the time to see red maple leaves. Winter in Quebec
is a bit long, usually lasting about six months. In winter you can see snow everywhere, and the
whole world turns white.
M: I can imagine that. Now please tell me something about the people there.
W: The people in the city are mostly French-Canadians, and about 95% of them only speak French.
7They enjoy a better life and live longer than most people in other parts of the
world. M: Wow, it’s such a good place. You must miss it very much, don’t you?
W: Yes, but not very often. I was born in New York, and was also brought up there, so I think it’s
the best place to live and work.

W: Hello, everyone. I have great news to report. Recently, Alice Green was given a higher position
in our company with higher pay. Congratulations to her! As her boss, I’ve seen her work for our
company for a number of years, and things have gone quite well. First, she helped our sales
department increase sales by 200% last year. Before that, we only earned 1,500,000 dollars a
year. We have advertised and promoted our products at trade shows, on TV and in the newspaper,
and customers really enjoyed our products and they were satisfied with our service, too. Our
company has become better known, not only in our area but also in other cities. All of us know
that what people say about our business to their family and friends is most important to our
company. Any high technologies can’t compare with it. Besides increased sales, Alice has
established a good working relationship with her colleagues. She recognizes others ’
abilities and respects others ’ opinions. I believe she has the ability to lead the sales department in
the right direction. Therefore, she deserves the promotion and pay raise. OK, let’s welcome Alice
Green to speak to us.
