It was a regular Monday when I received an email from my son’s school about a coming science
fair. At first, I thought, “Great, I can’t wait to see the project of my son, Tim.” The thought of
colorful displays and creative ideas cheered me.However, as I read further, my excitement quickly turned to anxiety. Not only were students
required to present their projects, but parents were expected to participate as well! This unexpected
change left me feeling upset. “Oh, no. I’m not good at science and I haven’t done a project since I
was in school. How can I help him?” I was also worried about how my lack of experience might
affect my son and his chance to shine.
That evening, my son came home full of excitement, “Dad, this is going to be wonderful. We
should make a volcano that erupts!” And so, we began our project with some online research and a
trip to the store for supplies. I realized that our project might be displayed for everyone to see and
any mistake could be embarrassing.
Our first attempt at building the volcano was a disaster. Fast forward to the weekend, and it was
time for a practice run at school. I expected the other parents to be as confused as I was. I was
wrong! They were so prepared that they could be scientists themselves. The pressure was on.
Over the next few days, we worked hard and our project improved. My son was excited, and I
started to enjoy the process, too. The day of the science fair arrived, and my nervousness faded. It
turned out that concentrating on having fun with my son was the best way to overcome my worries.
Plus, seeing his smile made everything worth it.
Reflecting on the experience, I realized it had brought us closer. It was the first time my son and
I had created something together. I now look forward to more projects in the future.
24. How did the author feel on receiving the letter?
A. Disappointed. B. Anxious. C. Excited. D. Content.
25. What could be inferred about the son?
A. He found the project too hard to complete.
B. He relied heavily on his father for ideas.
C. He obviously lacked self-confidence.
D. He really looked forward to the project.
26. What helped get rid of the author’s worries?
A. Completing the project without mistakes.
B. His awareness that effort mattered more.
C. Focus on working with his son together.
D. Good preparations for the science fair.
27. What did the author realize after the science fair?
A. The experience strengthened father-son ties.
B. Those who are determined will succeed.
C. The spirit of science is to keep trying.
D. Two heads are better than one.

When children learn a musical instrument, one of the hardest things for a parent to do is
encourage them to practice. But here’s something parents can use to give their kids a reason to try: Astudy has found that playing a musical instrument may lead to better brain health in later life. That
might not be enough to encourage a child who has better things to do, but it’s good news for those
who enjoy music.
Researchers from the UK looked at data from an online survey of more than 1,000 people over
the age of 40 who had been asked to talk about their musical experiences and exposure to music
during their lives. They were also given tasks that tested their memory and skills in things like
planning and focusing.
The study found that playing a musical instrument, especially the piano, was connected with
better memory and thinking skills. And continuing to play an instrument into later life was found to
have an even more salutary effect. Singing was related to better brain health in older age too. The
research team suggested that the social factors that came with singing in a singing group may also
have had an effect.
One of the researchers, Anne Corbett, who is a professor of dementia research at the University
of Exeter, said that encouraging older adults to return to music later in life could be a useful public
health strategy. She said, “There is much evidence for the benefit of music group activities for
individuals with dementia.” And she suggested that such activities could be used to reduce the risk of
developing dementia.
Of those who took part in the survey, 89% said they had played a musical instrument at some
time in their lives, and about half still played one. Around seven out of ten said they had taken part in
group singing.
28. Which is a benefit children learning musical instruments get according to the text?
A. Having better brain health in later life. B. Encouraging them to do things well.
C. Getting courage to try new things. D. Becoming famous.
29. What does the underlined word “salutary” in paragraph 3 mean?
A. Sufficient. B. Positive. C. Absolute. D. Typical.
30. According to Anne, how could music benefit older adults?
A. It helps them stay physically active. B. It provides a relaxing mind in their free time.
C. It lowers the chance of developing dementia. D. It encourages them to sing more.
31. What is the author’s purpose of writing the text?
A. To encourage people to join in music activities.
B. To tell us what we should do in daily life.
C. To describe that singing is good for health.
D. To explain the importance of a hobby.

A dried-out plain in the north of Sacramento, California was in perfect condition to fuel
wildfires. It was 2014, and California was experiencing its worst drought in decades. The plain was
full of dry bush. Fire prevention workers and ecologists in the state were desperately working to
reduce potential wildfire fuel sources anywhere they could. Ecologists, facing a dangerously dryplain and a price tag of at least one million dollars for a major construction project to fix the site, did
something surprising. They called in the beavers (河狸).
Thanks to the introduction of the animals, the site was restored to a lively plain, with trees
popping up and streams flowing across the land. Damon Ciotii, a biologist who led the project, said
he was amazed by the results of the project. He had estimated that the beavers would take about a
decade to return the dried-out land to streams in the region, but the animals blew away his
expectations. By year three, water was back. Ultimately, the project only cost $58,000, which was
used to prepare the land for the beavers to come in and do what they do.
Beavers have essentially evolved to be the engineers of nature, transforming their landscape to
suit their needs and to protect them from predators. They are quick in the water and can build dams
to make ponds and wetlands where they can better survive.
The population of beavers in North America was once driven down due to heavy hunting.
However, after the desire for beaver hats and coats reduced, the population began to recover. The
success of the project has led to a number of other projects using beavers for land restoration through
California. Government programs were beginning to take notice and offer training to local people on
how to use beavers for wild fire prevention.
32. Why was Ciotii surprised by the project?
A. It changed the land into a lively plain. B. It took effect quicker than expected.
C. It used animals to solve the issue. D. It cost significantly less money.
33. How did the beavers reduce the wildfire fuel sources?
A. They helped the trees grow better. B. They created water bodies.
C. They protected dams. D. They ate the dry bush.
34. What do we know about beavers in North America?
A. They are the main solution to the wildfire problem.
B. They got protected for their roles in ecology.
C. They were threatened by humans.
D. They are trained to stop wildfire.
35. What is the purpose of this text?
A. To inform the use of beavers in wildfire prevention.
B. To introduce the benefits of working with animals.
C. To illustrate the cause and effect of wildfire.
D. To present a study on beavers behavior.
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)

To protect yourself and your information, you’ll want to use long and strong passwords on the
Web that are easy for you to recall but difficult for others to guess. However, some of the most
commonly used passwords (密码) are based on family names, hobbies, or just a simple pattern.____36____ Let’s take a look at some of the most common password mistakes and how to fix them.
Password: brian12 kate 5 — It’s my kids’ names and ages.
Problem: This password uses too much personal information, along with common words.
Solution: ____37____ And rather than using family names, we could combine a character from
a movie with a type of food. For example, Chewbacca and pizza could become chEwbAccA&p!
ZZa.
Password: w3St! — It’s just the beginning of my street address with a few extra characters.
Problem: ____38____ It also includes part of the user’s address, which is publicly available
information.

characters. We could also use a nearby street name instead of her current address. For example,
Pemberly Ave could become PeMberLY% Av.
Password: 123abccba321 — ____39____
Problem: While patterns like this are easy to remember, they’re also some of the first things a
hacker (黑客) might guess when trying to get your account .
Solution: Remember that random passwords are much stronger than simple patterns. If you’re
having trouble creating a new password, try using a password generator (生成器) instead. Here’s an
example of a generated password: #eV $plg& qf.
Password: BrAve Z! 2 — I use the same passwords for all my accounts.
Problem: ____40____ However, remember that you should never use the same password with
different accounts.
Solution: Create a unique password for each of your online accounts.
A. This password is available at any time.
B. This password is too short and simple.
C. It’s long and difficult for someone else to guess.
D. There’s nothing really wrong with this password.
E. It’s easy to remember the simple pattern and type on my keyboard.
F. This kind of password is easy to remember but highly insecure (不安全的).
G. A stronger password would use symbols, capital letters, and a random order.

第二节 读后续写(满分25分)
67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写一段,使之构成一个完整的故事。
I used to think history was the most boring subject in high school. To me, it was nothing more
than long lists of dates, names, and exam points that felt far removed from real life. While teachers
spoke passionately about dynasties and ancient systems, I focused on memorizing just enough to
pass tests. Once the exam was over, everything faded from my mind. I believed history belonged to
textbooks, not to students like me who worried about rankings and future applications.
That attitude began to change in my second term of senior high school, when China’s visa-free
(免签) policy led to a noticeable increase in foreign tourists. Our school received a notice calling for
student volunteers to guide international visitors at major landmarks, including the Great Wall and
the Forbidden City. I applied mainly because of my English skills and the chance to earn a volunteer
certificate, not because I cared about history. Before my first task, we were given training materials
filled with historical background. As I leafed through the pages, my old impatience returned. There
were too many details, too many unfamiliar terms. Still, I forced myself to prepare, telling myself it
was just another task to complete.
On the morning of my first tour, I stood at the foot of the Great Wall with a group of visitors
gathering around me. Clouds hung over the mountains, and the stone steps went upward beyondsight. As I began my introduction, my voice sounded nervous and my explanations felt unnatural.
But as we climbed higher, questions followed — about why the wall was built along the mountains,
who built it, and what it meant to the people who once defended it. Looking out over the endless
mountains, I fell into deep thought. For the first time, the answers were no longer lines in the
textbook. The stones under my feet felt strong and real. I realized that what I was sharing was not
just information, but a story.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为120个左右;
(2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
I cleared my throat and began to tell the story behind the Great Wall.

第二节 读后续写(满分25分)
I cleared my throat and began to tell the story behind the Great Wall. With a firm voice, I explained how
ancient workers built it by hand to protect their homeland, facing countless difficulties and dangers. I talked aboutthe wisdom, courage and deep love for their country hidden in every stone. The tourists listened carefully, their
eyes shining with surprise and admiration. They kept nodding and taking photos, asking more questions eagerly.
Standing on the great wall, I no longer felt nervous or bored. Instead, I was proud of our long and amazing history.
It was no longer boring dates or words, but a vivid and touching story that connected the past and present. From
that day on, I fell in love with history and valued the chance to spread our culture to the world.

6【答案】6. B 7. A【原文】M: Is the woman in the picture your mother?
W: No. That’s my aunt Mary. She was a very famous butterfly swimmer in the 1980s.
M: Really?
W: Yes. She competed in both the 1984 and the 1988 Olympics.
M: Did she win?
W: No. But she set domestic records in the 100-meter and 200-meter butterfly swimming events. She was only a
teenager at that time.
M: She was really great. What did she do later?
W: She retired from swimming and went to work as a coach.
M: Has the record she set been broken?
W: Yes. In May 2000, Susan O’Neill broke her 200-meter butterfly swimming record. My aunt was very happy
when she heard the news.
M: I really look forward to meeting her one day.
7【答案】8. C 9. A 10. A【原文】W: What’s the matter, young man?
M: I’m afraid I’ve caught a cold.
W: Do you have a temperature?
M: I haven’t taken my temperature yet.
W: OK. I’ll check that. Oh, it’s 38. 2℃. You’ve got a fever. How about your desire for food?
M: I haven’t eaten anything for a whole day.
W: Let me give you a thorough examination and see what’s wrong with you. (After a moment) Hmm, don’t worry.
It’s only a cold. Take some medicine and have a good rest. You’ll be all right by this time tomorrow.
M: Can I ask for leave from class, then?
W: Yes. I think you should.M: Thank you very much.
8【答案】11. C 12. A 13. B【原文】W: Where are you from, Andy?
M: I’m from Canada.
W: Canada! Are you good at winter sports then?
M: Yeah, I love winter sports very much, such as skiing and snowboarding. I’ve been doing those for 7 years, since
I was 9. What do you do in your free time?
W: Well, swimming used to be my favorite hobby. But now I spend most of my spare time in the acting club I
joined last year, and I really love the theater. I want to be an actress one day.
M: I also enjoy playing online computer games. It helps me make new friends. How about you?
W: Well, I think it makes no sense spending time playing something with strangers. I prefer chatting face to face
with my friends.
M: I like chatting with friends too.
W: Oh, it’s time for class. Our English teacher is coming. After class I’ll introduce you to some of my friends.
9【答案】14. C 15. A 16. B 17. A【原文】M: It’s a lovely room, but I don’t like green paint. Would
it be all right if I painted the walls brown?
W: Yes, you can do that as long as you don’t paint them a very dark color. One of my renters painted them black a
few years ago. That was terrible.
M: Is there anything I should know?
W: Well, I don’t allow cats to go upstairs.
M: Oh? Not at all?
W: No, absolutely not. I don’t like animals and I don’t allow people to smoke in the rooms.
M: I agree with that. I don’t smoke anywhere. Can I use the kitchen if I want to cook something?
W: Yes, but only before 7 o’clock in the evening. And I don’t allow people to stick pictures on the walls. You know
when you take the pictures away, you leave marks on the wall.
M: OK. I see.
W: And one more thing, I don’t want any big noisy parties, so only two or three friends at the same time, please.
M: I’ll do that. It sounds fair. I think we will get on well with each other.
10【答案】18. B 19. A 20. C
【原文】W: The number of insects has fallen by 45 percent in the past 35 years. This could be dangerous for
humans. A report on this has been published in the journal Science. It says the human population has doubled since
1980. The number of insects has nearly halved. The biggest reason is the forest’s disappearing. Land is also
disappearing because of new cities and farms. Another reason is global warming. In the UK, the number of
common insects, such as beetles, butterflies, bees and wasps has fallen by up to 60 percent. Many countries are
worried about the fall in the number of bees and butterflies. Scientists say fewer insects will lead to many problems.
One of the biggest dangers is that there will be fewer insects to help flowers to reproduce. Farmers will have
problems about growing food. The lead researcher of the report said falling numbers of insects could also lead to
more diseases. He said mice would have less food so they will move to cities and bring diseases with them. A
professor said we must stop more insects from dying. First, we must figure out “What species are winning and what
species are losing in the fight for survival”. This will help us to protect the useful insects.
