What’s your favourite animal? For me, I love dolphins very much. When we think about dolphins,
we think of kind, friendly and smiling animals. We might also think of many stories of dolphins
saving people from water, or even the songs and stories about their wonderful skills. Then have
you watched dolphin shows before? Watching dolphin shows in ocean parks is popular in some
countries. People think the dolphins look lovely and friendly. But at the same time, we need to
think about some terrible facts.
First, where are the dolphins from? Some ocean parks get the dolphins in a secret way. For
example, they buy the dolphins at lower prices from fishermen. They catch, kill and sell the
dolphins without following the government’s rules. Second, dolphins show more and more
strange behavior because they get so bored with living in the small pools in the ocean parks. They
may hurt their teeth by biting something. And they get sick easily because of their bleeding teeth.
It’s time for us to find out the truth behind the animal shows. If they belong to the ocean, how
can they live happily and healthily in the ocean parks? Dolphins are our friends, so we should try
our best to provide them with a comfortable place.

C. People should try to protect dolphins.
D. There are many good facts behind the dolphin shows.

Blue whales are the largest animals in the world and they are still on the earth today! A blue
whale can grow to be as long as a nine-story building. The blue whale is so vast that its heart
alone weighs about 1,000 pounds.
The blue whale is just one kind of whale. Though whales live in the sea, they aren’t fish. Like
human beings, they are mammals (哺乳动物). All mammals have something in common like
using lungs to breathe air. However, unlike humans who breathe through their noses, whales
breathe air through blowholes on the top of their heads.
An adult blue whale has a large stomach and it usually cats up 8,000 pounds of food every day.
Small fish are their favorite food. Blue whales usually live in groups and they like to “sing” to each
other. In fact, many whales make friends and “talk” to other whales like this. The blue whale’s
songs are the loudest. And some of their songs can last for thirty minutes.
Scientists know about more than 80 kinds of whales, and they believe that there may be more
kinds of whales in the world. The next time when you go to travel by sea, watch for whales.
Maybe you’ll find a new kind of whale!

Children should avoid screen time for at least an hour before bedtime. The Royal College of
Paediatrics and Child Health says parents must make sure that children are not spending too long
on smartphones or watching TV, because these activities are bad for sleep.
The college has given guidance to parents to help them control their children’s screen time.
Parents agree that getting too much screen time has to do with a less healthy diet, a sedentary
(久坐的) lifestyle and poorer health.
Dr Max Davie, a health expert, said that children learn from examples instead of orders. “It’s very
difficult to set strict rules of your children’s screen time if you are always looking at the screen.
Parents need to take control of their own screen time if they are going to take control of their
children’s,” he said.
Experts advised that parents should set screen time according to their children’s ages and need.
They said parents could encourage their children to do more outdoor activities. When children
spend too much time on the screen, there is a risk to the healthy development of children.
Dr Max Davie said, “The guidance for parents is good as it goes, but remember not to distinguish
(区分) between different kinds of screens. The advice of stopping looking at the screen one hour
before bedtime is welcome. Turning off WiFi and keeping the children’s smartphones out of the
bedroom would also help parents.”
()41. What does the underlined word “guidance” mean?
A. Advertisements. B. Advice.
C. Orders. D. Courage.
()42. What’s the main idea of the third paragraph?
A. Children must avoid screen time in their lives.
B. Parents shouldn’t allow their children to watch TV.C. It’s difficult for parents to make strict rules of screen time.
D. Parents should set a good example for their children.
()43. What do experts advise parents to do to control children’s screen time?
A. To turn off WiFi all the time.
B. To ask children to go to bed early.
C. To encourage children to do outdoor activities.
D. To keep children away from smartphones.
()44. What can we know from Dr Max Davie’s words in the last paragraph?
A. Parents shouldn’t stop children from playing smartphones.
B. Don’t leave smartphones at children’s bedrooms before sleeping.
C. Avoiding screen time before bedtime can help kids avoid bad dreams.
D. Parents should set screen time according to different kinds of screens.

we should change our daily habits. For example, we mustn’t wear the clothes made of animals’
