长春队捧起首届“东北超”冠军奖杯

Changchun Takes the First Northeast Super Title

The first Northeast City Football League ended on the evening of October 5. The final match was held at the Suoyuwan Football Stadium in Dalian, where Changchun beat Dalian 1-0 and took the first title of the league.

Both teams played with great energy. The first half finished 0-0, because neither side could score. In the 68th minute, Huo Lutong, a player from Changchun, shot from the edge of the penalty area and scored the only goal. After that, Dalian attacked again and again, but Changchun's goalkeeper Ding Yixuan kept the ball out of the net.

About 63,000 fans came to the stadium, setting a new record for the league. It is the first city football league across provinces in China. Eight cities from three provinces and one region joined it. The league opened on May 23 and closed on October 5, with 34 matches in 136 days.

Pinglu Canal Brings Cargo and Tourists in Holiday

The Pinglu Canal, which is 134.2 kilometres long, lies in Guangxi. It is an important project in China's water network. It opened not long ago, and this year it welcomed its first National Day holiday.

During the holiday, the canal was busy with cargo ships, and water tours became very popular. More than 20,000 tourists visited the canal in just a few days. At the Liujing area of Nanning Port, ten docks were filled with ships of different sizes, while trucks carried goods along the riverside.

The canal connects rivers with the sea. Workers at the port said that the number of ships increased by 60 to 70 percent, and the kinds of goods grew by about 200 percent. Companies from Yunnan, Guizhou, Sichuan and Chongqing send their products here and then ship them out to the world. During the holiday, the control centre in Qinzhou worked day and night to keep the traffic safe and smooth.

Optogenetics Wins the 2026 Nobel Medicine Prize

The 2026 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine was announced in Sweden on October 5. Three scientists share the prize: Karl Deisseroth from the United States, and Peter Hegemann and Georg Nagel from Germany, for their work on optogenetics.

Their story began with a simple question: why does a single-celled green alga swim toward light? Hegemann studied the alga, and with Nagel found a special protein on its surface. When blue light shines on it, a channel opens like a gate, and charged ions rush into the cell, creating an electrical signal.

Deisseroth then moved the work forward. He put the gene for this protein into nerve cells from rats, and blue light triggered nerve signals. He published the result in 2005, and two years later he controlled nerve cells in the brains of living mice. The method is now called optogenetics. It helps researchers study how nerve cells shape memory and behaviour.
