Let’s be real: with the highly intense study, exercise is usually the first thing to get cut from the schedule. But maintaining a routine of exercise for busy students is about more than hitting a fitness goal. It also supports your study. We’ll show you how to add effective workouts into your daily routine, ensuring your health even when your calendar is packed.
No-Equipment Workout for Busy Mornings
This body-weight routine requires zero equipment and works even in a dorm room. It clears your head before you even head to your first class.
Active Movement Between Study Breaks
Sitting in front of the desk for a long time, you may feel your neck and waist like they are made of stone. To stretch and release the tension, you can try these:
● Desk yoga for neck and shoulders.
● 10 wall push-ups between breaks.
● Lift heavy textbooks overhead.
These micro-movements fit naturally into your existing study schedule and keep the blood flowing and your brain engaged.
Exercise Integration into Campus Travel
Sometimes the best quick workouts happen on the way to the library or other places. “Active travel” is the ultimate life tip for hitting your fitness goals without adding a single minute to your day. For example, skip the lazy elevator ride. Take the stairs and develop your functional leg strength step by step. While queuing up for meals or classes, do simple gentle stretches to release body tension.
As the blog suggests, adding these tips to each day improves the fitness and focus. Start small, stay consistent, and the long study sessions will feel much easier.
21. How long does the body-weight routine take?
A. 1 minuteB. 3 minutesC. 9 minutesD. 15 minutes
22. What do exercises during study breaks and campus travel have in common?
A. They occupy no extra time.B. They are carried out indoors.
C. They are high-intensity workouts.D. They help boost energy and focus.
23. Where is this text most likely found?
A. A sports club noticeboard.B. A personal training journal.C. A student wellness website.D. A campus fitness newspaper.

Ten years ago, at the height of blogging, I documented my life with photos and stories online. I met so many incredible people that way, and it felt warm and good — until I got a stalker — a real one who sent me frightening notes along with a photo of my children’s school. Scared, I hurriedly deleted most of my online records, and lost my internet innocence. Since then, I post almost nothing personal online.
So, when friends and I went out recently and someone took group shots, I politely asked them not to post pictures of me. If they really wanted to, please crop me out first. One friend took it personally and accused me of limiting her freedom. She unwillingly posted the photo with me cropped out, adding: “Not pictured: the one friend who doesn’t want to be seen with us.” That hurt. But it also got me thinking: Is it rude to post a photo of someone without asking first?
There are good reasons to ask first. Once an image is online, it’s effectively permanent. Facial recognition software can trace a stranger’s face back to the person’s name, location, interests and even Social Security number. Besides, people may avoid photos for personal reasons: relationship troubles, health issues or simply a bad angle.
Here’s the other side, asking everyone in every group shot is impractical. If everyone needed permission from every person in the background of a group shot, social media would grind to a halt. I hate the argument boils down to “everyone does it” — but it’s better to consider both kindness and practicality.
So is it rude? For casual, good-looking group photos posted to a private account among close friends, you probably have some freedom. For photos clearly centered on an individual, posted publicly or involving anyone who seemed hesitant: Ask first. And when it comes to children, always ask. If you’re the person who prefers not to be posted, know that you’re not being difficult. You’re protecting your own digital footprint and it’s just self-aware.
24. What made the author change her online behavior?
A. The actual safety threat.B. The nature of online photos.
C. The friend’s unfair criticism.D. The failure of record-deleting.
25. Why does the author mention facial recognition in Paragraph 3?
A. To stress the exposure of online photos.B. To warn against sharing photos publicly.
C. To compare with other tracking methods.D. To support the need for asking permission.
26. What does the underlined phrase “grind to a halt” in Paragraph 4 mean?
A. Come to a stop.B. See rapid growth.C. Lose public interest.D. Require stricter rules.
27. What is the author’s attitude towards people avoiding being posted?
A. Critical.B. Concerned.C. Sympathetic.D. Contradictory.

According to data gathered from a small-scale trial, patients suffering from chronic lung disease may achieve noticeable breathing improvement after receiving laughter therapy.
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), ranked among the leading sources of disability and death globally, prevents patients from fully expelling (排出) air while exhaling (呼气). Trapped stale (浑浊的) air inside the lungs robs patients of sufficient oxygen, leaving them out of breath merely during routine daily tasks. Though doctors commonly handle COPD via chemical medicines and targeted breathing practices like pursed-lip breathing, a considerable number of patients grow increasingly dependent on outside assistance, bringing about a steady decline in their overall life quality.
Goncagul Aldan, formerly at Hacettepe University Faculty of Nursing in Ankara, Turkey, had observed laughter therapy’s positive effects on patients fighting diverse illnesses. Her team selected 63 participants under ongoing medical care and split them evenly into three groups. All subjects stuck to regular drug treatment. One group performed pursed-lip breathing; another took laughter therapy courses; the control group got no extra interventions. Distinct from casual laughter aroused by funny stories, laughter therapy involves organized playful movements, rhythmic clapping and stress-relief breathing. Participants received face-to-face professional guidance before practising relevant skills for 30 minutes, three times weekly on their own.
Eight weeks later, members of the two treatment groups reported superior breathing and physical state relative to the control group. Such gains persisted for at least one month after the trial, even though no practice could cut patients’ demand for daily care. Aldan supposes laughter therapy strengthens breathing muscles, accelerates blood circulation and eases mental pressure. Still, she cautions that uncontrolled random laughter may expose COPD patients to physical harm.
“This is a modest but well-run study,” says Marc Miravitlles at Vall d’Hebron University Hospital in Barcelona, Spain, who wasn’t involved in the research. “These results — showing that patients can breathe more easily and feel better in general — are promising. A key question now is how to make this simple, low-cost therapy accessible to more COPD patients worldwide.”
28. What troubles many COPD patients?
A. Insufficient fresh oxygen supply.B. Limited air release during exhalation.
C. Growing need for outside assistance.D. Constant poor living condition.
29. What do we learn about Aldan’s experiment?
A. Participants quit their drug treatment.B. Casual laughter formed part of courses.
C. Each group got same therapy treatments.D. Laughter group got personal guidance.
30. What does Aldan think of uncontrolled random laughter?
A. It greatly benefits patients’ mental health.B. It may bring physical risk to COPD patients.
C. It works better than organized laughter therapy.D. It can ease patients’ mental pressure effectively.
31. What will be possibly be talked about in the following paragraph?
A. Ways to popularize laughter therapy.B. Limits of laughter therapy in treatment.
C. Steps to carry out pursed-lip breathing.D. Effects of oxygen shortage on lungs.

Dipterocarp, the tallest tropical (热带的) tree, can top 100 metres. A giant absorbs more sunlight than nearby trees, yet height has a price: the taller a tree, the harder it is to lift water to its top. Scientists assumed that giants would suffer most in droughts, but a new study found that dipterocarps adjust their water system and leaf chemistry, making the tallest no more drought-sensitive than shorter ones.
A tree’s trunk contains tubes called xylem that carry water from roots to leaves, but it is far from simple. Trees rely on evaporation (蒸发) from leaves to draw water upward through the xylem. Meanwhile, water particles (分子) stick to one another and to the xylem walls, keeping the chain from breaking. As trees grow taller, however, two problems emerge. Gravity can break the water chain, creating air pockets that block flow. Worse still, friction (摩擦) against the tube walls builds up and slows the rise.
This led scientists to predict that giants like dipterocarps would suffer most in droughts. Yet actual data were missing, because reaching the top requires experienced climbers. A team led by Paulo Bittencourt joined such climbers in a Southeast Asian rainforest, where 38 dipterocarps were measured and 27 were tracked for 770 days, a period that included a six-month drought.
The results were striking. Each tree’s xylem widened from tip to base, lowering resistance near the ground, and in the tallest trees the widening extended far beyond what simple scaling would predict. Their topmost leaves held higher concentrations of osmolytes — chemicals that stabilize cells under water stress, making them less likely to dry out. These adaptations meant height has nothing to do with reduced growth in the drought.
The finding that these giants are more drought-resistant than expected matters greatly since the tallest 1% of trees store over half of a forest’s carbon. “These trees are rare and important, and their water systems are perfectly evolved for their height,” said Paulo Bittencourt, the study’s lead author. This signals that previous climate models based on the assumption that giants would suffer most in future droughts need correcting.
32. How does the author introduce the topic in Paragraph 1?
A. By quoting an expert.B. By providing statistics.C. By presenting a contrast.D. By explaining a concept.
33. How do dipterocarps survive drought?
A. They clear air pockets with leaf chemicals.B. They adjust both water flow and leaf chemistry.
C. They widen their xylem at the top.D. They grow their roots deeper in drought.
34. What does the author mean by mentioning climate models in Paragraph 5?
A. They need more forest carbon data.B. They show forests face greater drought.
C. They fail to explain trees’ water transport.D. They may overestimate giants’ drought risk.
35. What can be the best title for the text?
A. How Xylem Widens in Forest GiantsB. Why Forest Giants Survive Droughts
C. How Trees Move Water to Their LeavesD. Why Tall Trees Suffer Most in Droughts

Deadlines: More Than Just a Countdown
People like to make their commitments at the start of a year, month or week, after birthdays, and even after national holidays. Landmarks in the calendar seem to give people a chance to get rid of their old selves and start afresh. However, people don’t have to wait for the new year to roll around. ___36____
Deadlines serve as a cure for procrastination, a fundamental human tendency to put things off for no good reason. Researchers investigated what happened when dental clinics varied the check-up reminders sent to their patients, promising goodies like a free dental kit for those who arranged appointments within a certain time frame. ____37____ Even without rewards, setting a deadline motivated people to book their next check-ups.
____38____ When former Google CEO Eric Schmidt was asked about his recipe for making good decisions, his response was “discord plus deadline” — disagreements ensure that people discuss the issues properly, while deadlines stop them talking at length. Most people prefer tighter deadlines, which produce quicker responses, drawing work to a close when there is nothing more to be gained from extending it.
Third, deadlines create shared expectations within organizations. Consider how companies apply for patents for their new inventions. The research team must complete the technical details by a given date, the legal department needs time to prepare the documents, and the finance team must approve the budget. ____39____ Deadlines ensure that each department finishes its part on time, so the application is submitted before the final cutoff.
However, deadlines can have side effects. They can weaken people’s sense of autonomy. They can distract from longer-term goals. Most obviously, they may cause work to be rushed. ____40____ After all, any deadline is better than none.
A. This is where deadlines truly prove their value.
B. A delay in any step can hold up the entire process.
C. However, deadlines often lead to poor quality work.
D. Despite these risks, deadlines are still essential.
E. Deadlines also ensure that work is not dragged out endlessly.
F. It turned out that those with a deadline were more responsive.
G. Instead, they can set their own deadlines to get things moving.

“Just think of it!” cried Lydia. “Our first camp! For five days we’ll be entirely on our own.” Grace, her best friend, nodded quietly, feeling anxious about leaving home. Lydia comforted her warmly, but sighed at the thought of Kerry also joining the camp. The two girls were rivals. Lydia disliked Kerry’s obsession with appearance, while Kerry always thought Lydia was self-centered and bossy.
The next day, the girls were in high spirits as they got into the bus heading for the camp. Everyone sang joyfully, with Kerry’s clear voice standing out. After the group had sung all the popular hits, there was a break. Grace turned to Lydia and said, “Sing the song you’ve composed ‘There’s beauty in the sunset’.” “Oh, so she composes as well.” Kerry’s tone was ironic. Lydia’s face reddened with embarrassment because she kept all her writings hidden inside her notebook and cherished it.
Soon they reached the campsite. By drawing lots, they were divided into five teams of seven. Much to Lydia’s displeasure, Kerry ended up in Team Three together with her and Grace. Lydia was later elected team leader. The camp was filled with colorful activities. Still, what everyone looked forward to most was the final Culture Evening, when each team had to prepare three original acts.
The next morning, Lydia assigned tent-tidying work to Kerry. While cleaning, Kerry accidentally found a piece of paper that had slipped out of Lydia’s notebook, on which was exactly that song. She was deeply touched by the delicate and sincere words. Realizing her mean words before were totally wrong, Kerry felt guilty but didn’t know how to apologize properly to Lydia.
Later, the team gathered to discuss acts for the cultural show. A short play and a group dance were settled in no time, but the third act remained undecided. A magic show was rejected as too risky, and a fashion show as too costly — they craved something novel and impressive. All of them frowned and racked their brains, failing to figure it out.

One possible version:
Nowadays, AI has found its way into every corner of campus life, making it vital that we students learn to harness it sensibly. Below is my proposal for the activity “Play Smart with AI”.
Aseries of well-designed activities will be organised to explore sensible AI application. Athemed seminar will be held, where participants exchange practical tips on applying AI to academic tasks. Additionally, a poster contest will be launched to warn students against over-reliance on AI, which guides us to distinguish its strengths and drawbacks. Designed to promote critical thinking, these activities view AI as a useful tool instead of a substitute for independent exploration.
It is expected that students’ awareness of proper AI application will be greatly improved. Equipped with such competence, we can take full advantage of AI to fuel ourpersonal development.
One possible version:
Just then, Grace looked from Lydia to Kerry, and got a perfect plan. She suggested combining Lydia’s song with Kerry’s voice. Lydia hesitated, unwilling to share her secret. Kerry admitted she had read the song by accident and found it beautiful. She felt ashamed of her mocking remarks and apologized sincerely. Seeing her regret, Lydia finally agreed to let Kerry sing it. Kerry would sing, Lydia would read the opening lines, and Grace would lead the chorus. As they rehearsed, their voices blended beautifully. Kerry praised Lydia’s lyrics, and Lydia admired Kerry’s voice. The coldness between them gradually melted.
On the final evening, Kerry came on stage with her guitar. She played the first chord, and Lydia, standing beside her, read the opening lines. Then Kerry began to sing. Her clear voice carried the tender words across the silent hall, while Grace and the team joined them gently. Lydia listened with tears in her eyes. When the song ended, thunderous applause filled the room. Kerry whispered that the song deserved this moment. Lydia smiled, thanking her for making it alive. They hugged, and the old rivalry between them was gone. The camp ended with music, laughter, and a precious friendship.

Text 7
W: Good morning. I’m calling about the one-bedroom apartment you asked about yesterday. Are you still thinking about it?
M: Yes, but I was wondering if the monthly rent is negotiable. The listing says $950, which is a bit steep for me.
W: Right. The landlord would probably accept $900 if you sign a one-year lease instead of six months.
M: That sounds fair. Are utilities included in that price?
W: Water and garbage are included, but electricity and internet are separate. Those usually run about $80 per month.
M: OK. So that’s almost $1,000 in total. I’ll need to think it over and get back to you by tomorrow.
W: Noproblem. I’ll hold it for you until tomorrow. Just give me a call either way.

W: Good afternoon. You’re the one who texted me about the used bicycle, right?
M: Exactly. I’m wondering what condition it’s in. Is there any obvious damage?
W: It rides perfectly. Only the seat is a little worn. I just replaced the tyres last month.
M: That sounds good. How much are you asking for it?
W: 120 dollars. I bought it for 200 six months ago.
M: Hmm,could you accept 100? I need it for my daily commute.
W: Well, 110 is the lowest I can go. And you’ll need to bring your own lock.
M: OK, that’s acceptable. Can I come over this Saturday afternoon?
W: Sure. But text me ahead of time, in case I’m out running errands.
Text 9
M: Today on our school podcast, we have Nina from the student book club. Nina, your club has recently changed its meetings. Why?
W: We used to meet every Friday afternoon and discuss one whole book. But many members had sports practice or family plans then.
M: So what do you do now?
W: We record a short podcast every Wednesday. Two students introduce a chapter, and listeners can send questions through the school website.
M: Does that mean members no longer meet in person?
W: Not exactly. We still meet once a month, but we spend more time sharing ideas than giving summaries.
M: Has the change attracted more students?
W: Yes. Some students first listened while riding the bus home. Later, they joined the club because they wanted to talk about the books themselves.
M: What will the club do next month?
W: We will invite a local writer to have an online meeting with us and take part in different activities next month.
Text 10
Hello everyone. I’m Jake, a volunteer guide from the city’s ecological conservation association. I’m here today to share details of our upcoming urban nature walk, a free public activity open to all teenagers in our community.
The walk is scheduled for the morning of next Sunday. We’ll set off at 8:30 sharp from the central city square and head for the urban wetland reserve.
A
21—23. DAC
根据“Active Movement Between Study Breaks”部分“These micro-movements fit naturally into your existing study schedule(这些微小的动作能自然地融入你现有的学习计划中)”以及“Exercise Integration into Campus Travel”部分““Active travel” is the ultimate life tip for hitting your fitness goals without adding a single minute to your day.(“主动出行”是实现健身目标的绝佳生活技巧,不会占用你额外的一分钟时间。)”
B
24—27. ADAC
根据第一段中“I met so many incredible people that way, and it felt warm and good — until I got a stalker — a real one who sent me frightening notes along with a photo of my children’s school. Scared, I hurriedly deleted most of my online records, and lost my internet innocence. Since then, I post almost nothing personal online.(我通过这种方式结识了许多了不起的人,感觉温暖而美好——直到我遇到了一个跟踪者——对方是个货真价实的跟踪者,他给我发来吓人的信息,还附上了一张我孩子学校的照片。我吓得慌忙删除了大部分在线记录,从此失去了网络上的纯真。从那以后,我几乎不再在网上发布任何个人内容)”可知,改变作者网络行为的是现实中的安全威胁。
【25题详解】
推理判断题。第三段中“There are good reasons to ask first.(先询问是有充分理由的)”先提出“发别人照片前先询问是有充分理由的”,接着“Once an image is online, it’s effectively permanent. Facial recognition software can trace a stranger’s face back to the person’s name, location, interests and even Social Security number.(一旦照片发到网上,就基本永久保存。面部识别软件可以将陌生人的脸追溯到其姓名、位置、兴趣爱好,甚至社会保障号码)”用“照片一旦上网就几乎永久存在,人脸识别可追踪到姓名、住址、兴趣甚至社保号”来证明风险很大。因此提到人脸识别是为了支持“应先征得同意”这一观点。
【26题详解】
词句猜测题。该句“If everyone needed permission from every person in the background of a group shot, social media would grind to a halt.(如果发布合影需要征得照片背景中每一个人的同意,社交媒体就会grind to a halt)”说如果发布合影需要征得照片背景中每一个人的同意,社交媒体就会“grind to a halt”。
最后一段“If you’re the person who prefers not to be posted, know that you’re not being difficult. You’re protecting your own digital footprint and it’s just self-aware.(如果你是那种不喜欢被晒在网上的类型,要知道你并不难相处。你是在保护自己的数字足迹,这完全是出于自我认知)”作者说,如果你是不想被发布照片的人,要知道你并不是难相处;你是在保护自己的数字足迹,这只是有自我意识的表现。这说明作者理解并支持这类人,态度是同情、体谅的。
C
28—31. ADBA
根据第二段中“Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), ranked among the leading sources of disability and death globally, prevents patients from fully expelling (排出) air while exhaling (呼气). Trapped stale (浑浊的) air inside the lungs robs patients of sufficient oxygen, leaving them out of breath merely during routine daily tasks.(慢性阻塞性肺疾病是全球致残和死亡的主要原因之一,它阻碍患者在呼气时充分排出空气。肺部滞留的污浊空气会剥夺患者足够的氧气,使他们在日常活动中喘不上气)”可知,COPD患者因呼气时无法完全排出空气,导致浑浊气体滞留肺部,进而剥夺了患者对充足氧气的获取。
【29题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段中“Participants received facetoface professional guidance before practising relevant skills for 30 minutes, three times weekly on their own.(参与者在自行每周三次、每次30分钟练习相关技能前,接受了面对面的专业指导)”可知,笑声疗法组获得了面对面的个人指导。
根据第四段中“Still, she cautions that uncontrolled random laughter may expose COPD patients to physical harm.(不过,她警告说,不受控制的随机大笑可能会使COPD患者面临身体伤害)”可知,Aldan认为不受控制的随机大笑可能会给COPD患者带来身体风险。
根据最后一段中“A key question now is how to make this simple, low-cost therapy accessible to more COPD patients worldwide. (现在的一个关键问题是如何让这种简单、低成本的治疗方法惠及全球更多的COPD患者)”可推知,下一段可能会讨论推广笑声疗法的方法。
D
32—35. CBDB
根据第一段“Scientists assumed that giants would suffer most in droughts, but a new study found that dipterocarps adjust their water system and leaf chemistry, making the tallest no more drought-sensitive than shorter ones.(科学家们此前曾假设,高大的树木在干旱中受影响最严重,但一项新研究发现,龙脑香科植物会调整自身的水分系统和叶片化学成分,使得其中最高的个体对干旱的敏感度并不比更矮小的同类更高)”可知,作者先介绍过去科学家的固有观点,再通过 but 引出新研究得出的相反结论,运用新旧观点对比的方式引入话题。
根据第一段“but a new study found that dipterocarps adjust their water system and leaf chemistry, making the tallest no more drought-sensitive than shorter ones.( 但一项新研究发现,龙脑香科植物会调整自身的水分系统和叶片化学成分,使得其中最高的个体对干旱的敏感度并不比更矮小的同类更高)”和第四段“Each tree’s xylem widened from tip to base, lowering resistance near the ground, and in the tallest trees the widening extended far beyond what simple scaling would predict. Their topmost leaves held higher concentrations of osmolytes — chemicals that stabilize cells under water stress, making them less likely to dry out.(每棵树的木质部从树梢到基部逐渐变宽,降低了近地面区域的水分运输阻力;而在最高的树木个体中,这种木质部的加宽程度远远超出了简单尺度缩放规律所能预测的范围。它们最顶端的叶片含有更高浓度的渗透调节物质——这类化学物质能在水分胁迫环境下稳定细胞结构,让叶片更不容易干枯脱水)”可知,龙脑香在干旱中存活是因为它同时调节水流系统和叶片化学成分。
【34题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段“This signals that previous climate models based on the assumption that giants would suffer most in future droughts need correcting.(这表明,此前基于高大树木在未来干旱中受影响最严重这一假设构建的气候模型,需要进行修正)”可知,旧模型的前提假设是“巨树干旱受害最重”,但新研究证明巨树耐旱能力比预想强。
36—40. GFEBD
根据上文“People like to make their commitments at the start of a year, month or week, after birthdays, and even after national holidays. Landmarks in the calendar seem to give people a chance to get rid of their old selves and start afresh. However, people don’t have to wait for the new year to roll around.(人们喜欢在年初、月初或周初,生日之后,甚至在国家法定节假日后做出承诺。日历上的重要节点似乎给了人们一个机会,去摆脱过去的自己,重新开始。然而,人们不必等到新年来临)”可知,人们常借助年初、生日、节日等“新起点”重新开始,此处转折强调不必等待外部节点,而应自己设定截止时间来启动行动;G项“Instead, they can set their own deadlines to get things moving.(相反,他们可以设定自己的截止日期来推动事情进展)”能够承接上文,符合语境。
【37题详解】
根据上文“Researchers investigated what happened when dental clinics varied the check-up reminders sent to their patients, promising goodies like a free dental kit for those who arranged appointments within a certain time frame.(研究人员调查了牙科诊所如何通过改变向患者发送的检查提醒内容来影响效果,例如承诺在特定时间内预约者可获得免费牙科套装等赠品)”以及下文“Even without rewards, setting a deadline motivated people to book their next check-ups.(即使没有奖励,设定截止日期也能促使人们预约下一次牙科检查)”可知,实验结果应先点明“有截止日期的人反应更积极”,再由“即使没有奖励”进一步说明期限本身有效;F项“It turned out that those with a deadline were more responsive.(结果表明,有截止日期的人反应更积极)”中的It turned out呼应investigated, those with a deadline呼应time frame。
根据下文“When former Google CEO Eric Schmidt was asked about his recipe for making good decisions, his response was “discord plus deadline” — disagreements ensure that people discuss the issues properly, while deadlines stop them talking at length. Most people prefer tighter deadlines, which produce quicker responses, drawing work to a close when there is nothing more to be gained from extending it.(当被问及如何做出正确决策时,前谷歌CEO埃里克·施密特的回答是“分歧加截止时间”——分歧能确保人们充分讨论问题,而截止时间则防止他们长时间争论。大多数人更倾向于设定更紧的期限,因为这样能更快地作出回应,在没有进一步收益的情况下就及时收尾工作)”可知,本段讲截止日期的另一重作用是防止工作被无限拖延;E项“Deadlines also ensure that work is not dragged out endlessly.(截止日期还能确保工作不被无限期拖延)”中also承接上一段好处,not dragged out endlessly对应stop talking at length/drawing work to a close。
根据上文“The research team must complete the technical details by a given date, the legal department needs time to prepare the documents, and the finance team must approve the budget.(研究团队必须在规定日期前完成技术细节,法律部门需要时间准备文件,财务团队则需批准预算)”以及下文“Deadlines ensure that each department finishes its part on time, so the application is submitted before the final cutoff.(截止日期可确保各部门按时完成各自的工作,以便申请在最终截止前提交)”可知,空处应解释为什么要用截止日期协调多部门流程,即任何一步延误都会拖住整个进程;B项“A delay in any step can hold up the entire process.(任何一步延误都可能阻碍整个进程)”能够承上启下。
根据上文“They can weaken people’s sense of autonomy. They can distract from longer-term goals. Most obviously, they may cause work to be rushed.(它们会削弱人们的自主感,分散人们对长期目标的注意力,最明显的是可能导致工作被仓促完成)”以及下文“After all, any deadline is better than none.(毕竟,有截止日期总比没有好)”可知,先承认风险,再用After all转折强调截止日期仍不可替代;D项“Despite these risks, deadlines are still essential.(尽管存在这些风险,截止日期仍然必不可少)”精准衔接these risks与better than none;C项只重复质量差,不能引出末句的肯定结论。
