Do you eat lots of fruits and vegetables every day? If you do, you’re doing the right thing for your health!
But it’s also important to eat different kinds of fruits and vegetables. Science shows that eating those of different
colours is a great way to get enough nutrients (营养). It’s called “eating the rainbow (彩虹)”.
Why are the colours important? That’s because they have something special called phytochemicals (植物化
学物质). The phytochemicals not only give fruits and vegetables their colours, but they also have different
goodness. For example, the phytochemicals in carrots give them an orange colour and make them good for ourjoints (关节).
The most important colour groups are yellow, white/brown, red, orange, purple/blue, and green. Each of
them is useful, so we should eat at least one or two fruits or vegetables from each colour group every day.
