Some people think that success of life is based on hard work and determination. Others, however, believe that there are more important factors such as having money or good appearance.
Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
Success means different things to different people. Some argue that hard work and determination are the keys to a successful life, while others believe factors like money or good appearance are more important. This essay discusses both views and argues that the second one describes an easier start rather than a better result.

On the one hand, many believe that success comes from sustained effort and perseverance. Hard work enables individuals to overcome obstacles and achieve their goals, regardless of the difficulties. This view emphasises personal responsibility, with the belief that regardless of their background, many people can succeed through dedication. Determination is part of the same argument: worthwhile goals usually involve failure, and those who continue after a setback are the ones who eventually succeed. For instance, employees who keep learning after hours are rarely noticed in their first year, but within three years they are often promoted ahead of better-qualified colleagues.

On the other hand, some argue that external factors like wealth and appearance are more significant in determining success. Wealth, for example, provides opportunities such as access to better education, connections, and the ability to take risks. Similarly, physical appearance can offer advantages in fields like entertainment or fashion, where looks often play a large role in one's prospects. In these industries appearance is judged before skill, so a capable candidate may never reach the point where their hard work can be seen. Some people believe these factors give individuals an early advantage, and without them, hard work may not be enough.

In my view, while money and appearance can offer advantages, they do not guarantee success. Wealth or beauty may open doors, but they decide the starting line rather than the finish: what happens after those doors open depends on the daily work that follows, not on who opened them. This is why inherited wealth often buys a comfortable start but rarely produces a lasting career, and why people who begin with no advantages frequently overtake those who did have them.
