hiring two people. You'll hear from us sometime next month. Good luck and
thanks for coming today.
(Text 10)
W:Last night I had a frightening experience. While I was eating dinner at
the fast food restaurant where I normally go when I'm in a hurry, the manager
announced that everybody had to leave the building. The place was crowded and
that made the situation dangerous, as everyone was determined to get out first.
To make matters worse, an elderly woman, who must have weighed 300 pounds, had
just come up to the entrance, which was also the only exit. In the meantime, I
remembered that I had left my purse in the chair I had been occupying when the
announcement was made. It was certainly not convenient to return and get it,
but I had to do it. When I finally got outside, I saw that the police bomb team
had arrived and the men were studying the area. They finally found out that it
was all a false alarm and the crowd went away.

Albert Einstein was born in Germany in 1879.He was a quiet child who spent
much of his time alone. He was slow to talk and had difficulty learning to
read. When Albert was five years old,his father gave him a compass. The child
was filled with wonder when he discovered that the compass needle always
pointed in the same direction — to the north. He asked his father and his uncle
what caused the needle to move.
Albert did not like school. The German schools of that time were not
pleasant.Students could not ask questions.Albert said he felt as if he were in
prison.
In 1905 , Albert Einstein published some important papers in a German
scientific magazine. They included one of the most important scientific
documents in history. It explained what came to be called his “Special Theory
of Relativity (相对论)”.Ten years later he expanded it to a “General Theory
of Relativity”.
In 1921,he won the Nobel Prize in Physics. It was given to him not for his
theories of relativity, but for his discovery of the law of the photoelectric
effect (光电效应).
Albert Einstein left Germany in 1933.He moved to the United States to
continue his research.Einstein became a citizen of the United States in 1940.
Einstein was a famous man,but you would not have known that by looking at
him.His white hair was long and wild.He wore old clothes. He showed an inner joy
when he was playing his violin or talking about his work.Students and friends
said he had a way of explaining difficult ideas using images that were easy to

Einstein spent the last twentyfive years of his life working on what he

he did not succeed.

We all know that water is tasteless. But it happens from time to time:you
pick up the bottle of water you didn't finish yesterday , and it tastes
更多资料添加微信号:hiknow_007 淘宝搜索店铺:乐知课堂strange. Most often, you tend to drop the bottle in the trash bin, believing
that the water has gone bad.But is it true?
According to Time,of course not, taste has little to do with quality of
water.
According to Time, when water is exposed to the air for 12 hours, carbon
dioxide interacts with the H O in the water , and the pH value lowers
2
slightly.As a result,the water has a different taste.
“But it's most likely safe to drink,” Norwegian expert Truls Krogh told
Science Nordic.“If the water is covered and of good quality to start with,in
principle it can last a thousand years. That's because when water is fresh,it
contains little organic matter. As long as water is held in clean glasses or
bottles,no pollutants will enter it to harm our health.”
People in countries like the US,the UK and Australia usually drink tap
water.According to Time,if tap water is drunk within six months, the chlorine
(氯气) in the water will be enough to kill any bacteria and keep it safe to
drink.
However , there are also some exceptions. If you accidentally put your
fingers into water or store water in unclean containers day after day ,
microorganism (微生物) will enter the water.
With the help of surrounding temperature, and sunlight streaming through
windows, these microorganisms multiply quickly.Sooner or later, the water will
be in the charge of the unfriendly bacteria. And if you drink the water too
often, then you're more likely to be ill.
And what about water in plastic bottles? Heat and plastic are a bad
combination,US researcher Kellogg Schwab stresses. When plastic bottles are
used at high temperatures, they produce a chemical called BPA.BPA is something
that affects hormones (荷尔蒙) and research has tentatively linked it to
“several health damage, including heart disease and cancer”,Time reported.
Schwab suggests replacing disposable (一次性的) plastic bottles with the
refillable containers made of metal or glass to deal with BPA.

D.Covered water can last for a thousand years.
30.What can we infer from the passage?
A.BPA does little harm to our health.
B.Tap water is always safe to drink.

D.Disposable plastic bottles have been banned already.

We sit too much, and researchers are discovering that even working out in a
gym several times a week won't necessarily obviate serious problems if we're
sitting for the rest of the time. From weight problems to poor blood glucose (葡
萄糖) levels, even early death, the message is clear:we need to stop sitting
for hours at a time. What to do?“Move more,” say the experts.
So we asked three fitness instructors for their preferred exercises that
don't require equipment and can be done throughout the day at home,in the
office,in a hallway, waiting in line at a grocery store or watching TV.
“There are a lot of ways to build activities into a day,” says Ottawa-
based fitness instructor Christine Dery, who focuses her classes on core muscle
更多资料添加微信号:hiknow_007 淘宝搜索店铺:乐知课堂strength and balance. She reminds her students to seek ways to move more outside
class, such as getting off the bus or an elevator ride a few stops earlier,or
doing calf raises, wall squats and wrist stretches while watching TV.“We need
to make exercise an important part of our day,” she says.“It's about making
yourself a priority.”
Ben Gervais,a parttime personal trainer and former kung fu instructor in
Ottawa, thinks that little moves matter.“Moves like mowing the lawn, doing
work around the house, going for a walk with the kids and playing with the kids
can all count as activities as long as you get up and move.” He recommends
spending the twominute TV commercial breaks doing wall squats, pushups and sit-
ups,or stepping up and down on a step.
Stott Pilates trainer and instructor Michele Carini says breathing can be
an exercise working abdominal ( 腹 部 的 ) muscles and neck and shoulder
muscles.Focus on sitting tall and drawing air in,so the rib cage (胸腔)
expands like an accordion while the stomach stays tense.
32.What does the underlined word “obviate” mean in Paragraph 1?

A.You should get up as early as possible in the morning.
B.It is better to watch TV for 2 minutes every day.
C.Doing housework at home is a good habit.
D.Small activities can benefit you quite a lot.
35.How does the author prove his viewpoint?

There was a rich couple who was throwing a big New Year party at their
house. So they went shopping at the market where everything was of high cost and
fixed price. They wanted to maintain their level of standard so they didn't mind
paying for it.After purchasing all they needed, they called a porter to carry
everything and drop it at their home. The porter who came was of an old age,and

even able to meet his daily needs.
They asked the porter about the charges for delivering their goods to their
home. The old porter quoted just $20,well below the market price.Yet,the
couple argued and bargained with the porter and finally settled for $15.The
porter was struggling to make even one time's meal so he needed anything he
could earn.
The couple was very happy thinking how well they bargained with the poor
porter and paid him $15 in advance and left after giving the porter their
address for delivery. They reached their home and one hour passed, and two hours
passed, but the porter still didn't deliver their stuff.
The wife started to get angry at her husband,“I always tell you not to
trust such person, but you never listen to me.I am sure instead of delivering
the goods to our home , he must have disappeared with everything. We must
immediately go back to the market to inquire and then to the police station to
file the complaint against him.”
They both left towards the market. On their way near the market, they saw
another porter. They stopped him to inquire about the old porter and noticed
that he was carrying their goods in his cart! The angry wife asked him,“Where
is that old thief? This is our goods and he was supposed to deliver them.It
seems you poor thieves are stealing our goods and going to sell them.”
