M:Yes. But it's a bit hot to me.
W:I think it's just right.
M:I'd like light diet.
(Text 3)
W:May I borrow your computer? I haven't finished my report yet. It's due
tomorrow.

you can use it.
(Text 4)
W:Come in, Jack. Can I take your coat?
M:Sure, thanks.
W:You're the first guest to arrive. I'll get you something to drink.
M:OK. Should I take off my shoes?
W:Whatever you like.
(Text 5)
W:Where did you go in the summer vacation, David?
M:I went to London for a parttime job, but not for a trip.
W:So you got the first pot of gold?
M:Yeah. I got it by delivering beer to restaurants.
(Text 6)
W:City of Nutley, Department of Parks and Recreation.
M : Yes, this is Mr Black from Balentine Construction Company. We're
organizing an outdoor company event. May I reserve a barbecue area and the big
picnic tables at Lake Park for the July 4 holiday weekend?
W:It's a bit late to call, isn't it?
M:Yes, so sorry. But we're not talking about the Monday holiday, here ...
it's Saturday we had in mind. We need it all day, really, from 9:00 a.m.
until 6:00 p.m.
(Text 7)

M:I haven't decided what to do yet. Anyway, staying at home all day
watching plays or movies on TV isn't a good way to kill time. Do you have any

W:I feel like going to the Coal Trade Center. They've got a special
exhibition about new sports cars. Why don't you go with me?
M:Good idea. I'd love to see that. You see, I'm interested in new sports
cars. I'm planning a special study of car engines this term. Maybe I could find

W:Hello, Ken! Are you from Cambridge?
M:Well, I'm from Hong Kong, but I live near Cambridge now. I just started

and the music. And the people are very friendly.
W:Yeah. I like all the parks, the stores and the people. There's always
something happening.
M:Yeah. I like all that, too. But I don't like the place I live. It's a
new apartment near Alden Park. I live alone, and it's just a little too quiet.
W:Quiet is usually good.
更多资料添加微信号:hiknow_007 淘宝搜索店铺:乐知课堂M:Yeah, but I don't like to live alone. In Hong Kong I lived in a big
apartment with my grandparents, my parents, my sister and brother. It was
noisy, but it was home. We ate dinner together and we talked together. I miss
them.
W:It seems you're a little homesick. I know some good Chinese restaurants
around here. I'll write down a few names. You can try them.
M:Sure, thanks. Sounds good.
(Text 10)
I moved into a new house last week. It's on the side of a mountain. At the
back of my house there are rice fields. There's a house next door to mine and
it has a barking dog. Luckily, I like dogs and this dog loves me. He welcomes
me home every day, which makes me feel good.
The house is not big, with one story. When you go in the door there is a
hallway for taking off shoes and coat. Then you are in a bright living room.
There is what I call a work area. It's where I have my computer and some books
and research stuff. The kitchen is large. I have everything because I enjoy
cooking. It relaxes me after a hard day at work. I'm thinking of buying a new
bigger fridge because my fridge is too small, and because in the country I
can't do shopping as often. By the time I get out of work, most of the shops
around here are closed. The shower room and the bathroom are separated. There
is a washing machine in my bathroom. I can't live without it.
I'm having a housewarming party this Sunday. Welcome to join it!

When your pet has an emergency, first aid is not a substitute for
veterinary(兽医的) treatment. However, before you are able to get your pet to a
veterinarian, knowing some basic first aid can help.
Bite Wounds
Approach the pet carefully to avoid getting bitten. Wear a mask for the
更多资料添加微信号:hiknow_007 淘宝搜索店铺:乐知课堂animal and then check the wound. Clean the wound with large amounts of saline
(盐水). If these are not available, then regular water may be used. Wrap large
open wounds to keep them clean.
Bleeding
Apply firm, direct pressure over the bleeding area until the bleeding
stops. Hold the pressure for at least 10 minutes. Avoid bandages that cut off
circulation.
Breathing Stops
Check to see if the animal is choking(窒息) on a foreign object. If an
animal is not breathing, place it on a firm surface with its left side up.
Check for a heartbeat. If you hear a heartbeat but not breathing, close the
animal's mouth and breathe directly into its nose—not the mouth—until the
chest expands. Repeat 12 to 15 times per minute.
Burns
Wash the burn immediately with large amounts of cool, running water. Apply
an ice pack for 15-20 minutes. Do not place an ice pack directly on the skin.
Wrap the pack in a light towel or other cover. If the animal has large
quantities of dry chemicals on its skin, brush them off. Water may activate
some dry chemicals.
Fractures (骨折)
Symptoms include pain, inability to use a limb(腿). Wear a mask for the pet
and look for bleeding. If you can control bleeding without causing more
injury, then do so. Watch for signs of shock. Don't try to set the fractures by
pulling the limb. Transport the pet to the veterinarian immediately, supporting
the injured part as best as you can.

Emergencies can happen anytime, so being prepared for one is important for
you and your family.Having a properly stocked first aid kit in your home is an
easy but necessary part of good emergency preparation.
Pick a good container
One good choice is a large translucent plastic container, which makes it
easy to see the materials inside.Lunchboxes are also another good
choice.Basically, if it's big enough, portable, and at least somewhat water
resistant, it can make a good container.Regardless of your container choice, it
should be easy to recognize, so write “FIRST AID” on it with a marker.
Make your kit safely accessible
When your child is crying about a “booboo” on her knee, you don't want
your home kit buried on the back of a closet or lost because it's not being
returned to the same spot after each use.
Teach your family about the kit
For younger children who shouldn't use the items in the kit, teach them
where it's located, so they could show a visitor, relative or babysitter. For
older children and adults, instruct them on how to use the items in it.Use a
first aid instruction booklet, like those available from the American Red Cross
for guidance and place a booklet in the kit for reference.
Keep your kit uptodate
No one wants to fetch a first aid kit and find the bandage box empty or the
pain relievers expired(过期的).Keep track of supply amounts and expiration
dates regularly.
Create a checklist in the kit
Record every item on a sheet of paper and keep it in the kit.Besides,
record the amounts of the items and expiration dates next to the listed items
on the checklist that you include in your kit.In this way, anyone who wants to
reach the kit can immediately know what it includes and doesn't include. Also,
they can be clear whether the items can be used.

Quite often, no matter how good you are, your success is dependent on how
other people such as your boss, peers, clients and customers perceive your
communication and responses. So when you come to people who make the key
difference between helping you or holding you back, how can you influence and
persuade them to give what you want.
Psychological researches repeatedly show that people generally make up
their minds on whether to help or hinder you based on whether they like you or
not. It is human nature. What can you do about it? You need to make a good
impression on others to ensure they like you and give you what you want.
Research again shows that people give opportunities to the people they like
best. In fact, most people actually make up their minds about other people in
the first five minutes or less of meeting someone. These are called first
impressions or “moments of truth”.
Once they make up their minds, they tend to be very reluctant to change
their opinions. You hardly have room for error when making that first
更多资料添加微信号:hiknow_007 淘宝搜索店铺:乐知课堂impression on a new acquaintance. Therefore, whether you are applying for a
job, going for an interview, attending a meeting with your boss or peers, or
serving a customer, you need to prepare yourself mentally and rehearse how you
will manage the first few minutes of your interaction. This includes doing your
homework to gather information and researching all possible issues so you will
know how to address them should the other party raise them unexpectedly.
It is amazing how poorly some people can come across at the beginning. The
worst thing is that they do not even seem to realize it. Having good
qualifications and an excellent work performance does not excuse candidates
from trying to make good first impression.
32.What is the passage mainly about?
A.Making a good first impression.
B.People making the key difference.
C.Winning strategies for a job interview.
D.Persuading people to like you.
33.Which of the following is the way in which people tend to decide
whether to like other people or not?
A.They make quick decisions.
B.They prefer people who are experienced.
C.They change their opinions frequently.
D.They pay much attention to good qualifications.
34.Which of the following strategies might help in an interview according
to the author?
A.Ask the interviewers for homework to do.
B.Know as much as possible about the situation.
C.Show your friendliness and confidence.
D.Do something unexpected to impress interviewers.
35.What will probably be talked about in the next part of the passage?
A.Questions that might be asked by the interviewers.
B.Examples of how good first impressions help people succeed.

Are you looking for a new pastime that will create a balance between
physical activity and relaxation? Then yoga may be the perfect choice for you.
Yoga can be practiced by people of all ages and levels of fitness. 36 It's
a great way to strengthen your muscles and become more flexible.
In the 1930s, Indian Sri Tirumali and K.Pattabhi developed one of the most
popular forms of yoga practised worldwide today. They worked together using an
ancient Sansknt text called Yoga Korunta to create a set routine of yoga
movements and breathing exercises. 37
Ashtanga is different from other forms of yoga. It is a very powerful form
of aerobic (有氧的) exercise which creates deep heat in the body. 38 In
other forms of yoga, however, the routine can change each time and the
stretching exercises aren't aerobic.
39 As well as making you stronger and more flexible, it can also help
you to stay calm. By focusing on your breathing while doing physical exercise,
you are able to get a balance between mind and body. In addition, yoga helps to
make us healthier so we are less likely to get common illnesses like colds.
Furthermore, yoga encourages you to think about what you're doing. Often
you will close your eyes while doing certain movements. 40 After a few
lessons you'll stop looking at what the others around you are doing. You will
stop comparing yourself with others and start focusing on yourself.
A.It can also be done anywhere at any time.
B.The result of their cooperation was ashtanga yoga.
C.Whatever kind of yoga you choose, there are many longterm benefits.
D.This allows you to concentrate better and it makes you less competitive.
E.Every time someone practices ashtanga, he or she does exactly the same
movements.

Although being famous might sound as if a dream comes true, today's stars,
feeling like animals in the zoo, are facing pressures that few of us can
imagine. They are the center of much of the world's attention.Paparazzi (狗仔队)
camp outside their homes, with their cameras ready.Tabloids (小报) publish
更多资料添加微信号:hiknow_007 淘宝搜索店铺:乐知课堂thrilling stories about their personal lives.Just imagine being unable to do
anything without being photographed or interrupted for a signature.
According to the psychologists, celebrities (名人) worry constantly about
their public appearance.Eventually, they start to lose track of who they really
are, seeing themselves in the way their fans imagine them, not as the people
they were before everyone knew their names. And they would feel isolated.
The phenomenon of tracking celebrities has been around for ages.In the 4th
century BCE, painters followed Alexander the Great into the battle, hoping to
picture his victory for his admirers. When Charles Dickens visited America in
the 19th century, his soldout books attracted thousands of fans, leading him to
complain about his lack of privacy.Tabloids of the 1920s and 1930s ran articles
in much the same way that modern tabloids and websites do.Being a public figure
today, however, is a lot more difficult than it used to be.Superstars cannot
move about without worrying about photographers with modern cameras. When they
say something silly or do something ridiculous, the news is always spread
within minutes through the Internet and keeps their “stories” alive forever.
If fame is so troublesome, why aren't all celebrities running away from it?
The answer is that there are still ways to deal with it.Some stars stay calm by
surrounding themselves with trusted friends and family members or by escaping
to remote places away from big cities. They focus not on how famous they are but
on what they love to do or whatever made them famous in the first place. With
these effective approaches, some celebrities relieve stress and remain popular
with fans.Consequently, though being famous is driving some stars crazy, some
wise ones enjoy what reputation brings them.
