It is akind ofaddiction, a pullI find hardto resist."
This pull has seen himuse hissurgical skillsto help thosein
need bytaking unpaid,month-long breaks from his ‘day job'as anNHS surgeon in theUKevery
year to work in conflict zones anddisasterareas."
根据第一段中的"‘Ihave travelled theworld for 25years in search of
trouble,' admitsDr David Nott in hisrecent autobiography,WarDoctor: Surgery ontheFront Line."
He first worked inSarajevo in 1993as avolunteerwith theFrench
charity Médecins SansFroatières."
26.A. I thinkto skirt death —and thento realizehowclose you
are to death andthat you survived it —is exciting.Andthat's theexperience I've had many times
over."
A。
27.D. I thinkto skirt death —and thento realizehowclose you
are to death andthat you survived it —is exciting.Andthat's theexperience I've had many times
over."
Gazain 2014,he decided not toabandon a young girl in themiddleofsurgery despite beingtold
that the hospitalwas about to bebombed. He carried on,nobombs fell and thegirl survived."2014
InYemen, he operated onthewife of
a bomb-makerwho had accidentally blown uphis own house. Nottfound a detonator(雷管)buried
in her leg and bad to carefully disposeofit before continuing theoperation."
28.A. 由第一段第一、二句“It’s known to all that coffee canmake you feel more
awake, and nowit seems that coffee may also improve your maths skills. And thebest news is that
you don’t even need to drink it tosee theimprovements —you just need tosmell it.(众所周知,咖
Anew study
byresearchers from Stevens InstituteofTechnology has revealed that thearoma of coffeemay help
your maths skills.
故选A。
29.B. 第三段“In thestudy,100business students tooka 10-question algebra test.
Half thegroup tookthetest in thepresence ofa coffee-like scent, whiletheother half tookthe test
in an unscented room.Theresults revealed that thegroup in thecoffee-smelling room scored
significantly higheronthe test than thosein theunscented room.
由第三段“In thestudy,100business students tooka 10-question algebra test.
Half thegroup tookthetest in thepresence ofa coffee-like scent, whiletheother half tookthe test
in an unscented room.Theresults revealed that thegroup in thecoffee-smelling room scored

business students scored higherinthemaths test with thepresence ofcoffee than thosewithout the
Technology has revealed that thescent of coffee may helpyour maths skills.(Stevens
D 选项“The

Text 10
Thanks for joining us for the annual Running of the Bulls here in Pamplona, Spain.
Bull-running has been a custom in Spain since the 15th century. However, it likely started before
that, when farmers led their cattle through the streets to the market. Nowadays, the event in
Pamplona is held during a nine-day festival honoring Saint Fermin, (17) the son of a Roman
official. It gained worldwide attention in 1926, after the famous American author Ernest
Hemingway wrote a novel about it. (18) Now, the Running of the Bulls is shown on TV all over
the world. For those unfamiliar with this event, here is what happens. First, people dress up in the
traditional clothing of ancient Spain. Next, hundreds of people who take part in the activity sing a
prayer to Saint Fermin. Finally, arocket is set off, and the bulls areset free fromtheirgates. (19)
For the next 875 meters, the bulls chase people through the streets, passing through the town square
and into a stadium. At this point, professional bull riders try to ride on their backs without being
thrown off. However, many people are angry that the bulls may be hurt during the running.
