I know it’s tough for you to accept my choice to apply to the universities in Peking for further study. In your eyes, I am a considerate child who is always willing to follow your advice. But this time I do hope that you can allow me to make my own decision. The reason why I choose universities in Peking is that they assemble many leading brains and own advanced facilities and resources. In addition, studying in Peking could also bless me with the chance to develop my independence and stand on my own feet. Please forgive my unintended offence against your expectation. I really hope you can understand me and support my decision. Your son 读后续写 (满分25分) A year later, our son was applying for a student loan. It was then that we discovered his savings account was almost empty. What disturbed us was that he might abuse the money. Therefore, we required him to tell us where the money had gone in a very serious manner. Hesitant and wordless, he lowered his head, with hands tightly clasped and face blushing. The scene that he kept so silent like a statue fueled my anger. Countless doubts roaring in my messy mind, I exploded and yelled “tell me the truth now”. (82词) Finally, in tears, and with great unwillingness, my son told us the truth. “I sent it to the offering box with your names”, he murmured, tears streaming down his face. His words suddenly hit me like lightening. I was glued to the spot, speechless, with a lump in my throat. The following moment witnessed me wrapping my son in my arms tightly, sobbing and apologizing. Never in my life had I been aware of my son’s love, silent but pure and deep, which had carried our family through the tough time and now warmed my life like 学科网(北京)股份有限公司sunshine. Text 1 W: So, tell me sir, when did you first notice the problem with your arm? I will examine it later. M: I was at a restaurant with my wife and friends about three weeks ago. I suddenly felt a sharp pain. (1) Text 2 M: Jenny, it’s really hot in here. Can you turn on the air-conditioning or something? W: I would, but it’s not working, remember? I told you to get it fixed last week and you didn’t do anything about it. (2) Text 3 W: This is the noisiest restaurant I’ve ever been in, I swear. I can’t even hear myself think. (3) M: That’s a good sign. If you ever find yourself in a quiet restaurant, that probably means the food isn’t very good. Text 4 M: Alice, I need your help! I’m planning to attend the Treehugging World Championships this year! W: Ha-ha! Sure. What do I need to do? M: You just need to take a photo of me hugging my favorite tree here. (4) Make it look good, please. Text 5 M: I wish there was a gas station in the town up ahead or we’re never going to make it to the hotel on time. (5) W: Relax, will you? We just passed a sign a few minutes ago saying there is one. Everything is going to be just fine. Text 6 (第7题为推断题) M: Hey, do you mind helping me for a minute? W: Sure. What exactly are you looking for? M: To be honest, I don’t even know where to start. And I don’t have much money. (6) W: That’s fine. How much money are you willing to spend on a guitar? M: About $100 to $150. W: Try this one. It’s lightweight, and its strings won’t hurt your fingers when you play it. It’s great for beginners. M: What about this one? It looks awesome. W: That one is electric. It might be a bit difficult for you. Plus, it’s $800. M: Never mind, then. I’ll take the first one. Text 7 W: Do you like my new blouse? M: That is beautiful. What is it made of? W: It is silk from China — the country’s most famous invention. (8) M: I thought that was gunpowder. (8) Didn’t they invent printing as well? W: Maybe, but silk is the one I like most. (9) M: It is made by worms, though. Do you feel comfortable wearing something that comes from worms? W: It feels great. That is the best thing about it. It feels so nice against my skin (9) — and of course it is strong and looks good. M: Expensive too, should I imagine that? W: Yes. All the best things are. M: That isn’t true. Love needn’t be expensive and that is the greatest thing. (10) W: Surely life itself is the greatest free thing. That and nature. M: You are welcome to your opinion but, whatever, I still like your silk blouse. Text 8 W: Have you seen that the Chinese paddlefish(中华白鲟) was finally declared extinct by IUCN in 2022? (11) M: Yeah, I saw. I’m not surprised, though. It had been struggling for years. They were last seen in the wild 19 years before the declaration was made. (11) W: It’s sad. They were amazing creatures. They could grow up to 23 feet! M: Really? Wow! W: They were already at risk years ago because of overfishing and habitat loss. Then a barrier was built across the river which prevented them from getting to the place where they laid their eggs. That was what really killed them off. (12) M: Sadly, many other species have stepped on the way of extinction in the last twenty years. For example, the northern white rhino(北部白犀牛) and the baiji dolphin(白鱀豚). W: There is also good news, though. For example, crested ibis(朱鹮), a beautiful bird, was listed as endangered by the IUCN. (13) Luckily, through the joint efforts of China and other countries, its wild population has been over 7000, (13) and it can be seen in many nature reserves now. M: That’s great. Text 9 M: Good morning, this is William Jones from Home Hardware. How may I help you today? W: Yes, my name is Lucy Harris. I’m interested in purchasing 20 units of your A1-model computer desks. (14) M: No problem. Are you ordering from within the city? W: Yes, I’m from Moore and Associates Law Firm. We’re located at 1026 Main Street. We already have an account. M: Yes, Lucy. I have your information. Let me just check to make sure we have them here. If we do, it normally takes about 14 business days for them to arrive. W: That’s perfect, as long as we get them before the beginning of next month. (15) M: Good news. It looks like we have enough in the warehouse. W: Great. Can you give me a general idea of how much it will cost? (16) M: Actually, I can give you an exact number, but you’ll have to wait until the end of the day. It will 学科网(北京)股份有限公司include the price of the products, packaging and shipping costs. And taxes, of course. W: Good. What types of delivery choices do you provide? M: Standard delivery is door-to-door, with no extra cost. However, we do also offer inside-delivery or delivery and set-up. Both are added costs. (17) W: Cost is not an issue. We’re too busy to put them together ourselves, anyway. (17) M: OK. I’ll get back to you by the end of the day. W: Thank you so much. Text 10 Welcome back to this week’s book review. Well, I am still reading what has become one of my favorite books of all-time — Spider-Man Legends. (18) To be fair, this is more like a collection of short stories and each one is related to each other. But you don’t know exactly how they’re related until you’ve read the entire thing two or three times. I’ve read it 20 times! This new approach to storytelling is so perfect for superhero characters. It can easily go back and forth between the pure fantasy of a cartoon world and the raw emotions of the real world. Most importantly, we get to spend a little more time learning about the history of the other characters besides Spiderman. (19) We learn things about Spiderman’s family, and even some of the bad guys he meets have interesting backgrounds. This book is great for both kids and adults because the language is so descriptive. Anyone can see themselves swinging through the streets of New York, stopping criminals, and performing good deeds. The level of detail in each story is amazing. It’s honestly better than any Spider-Man movie or comic. On a sadder note, Spider-Man Legends came out just after the death of Stan Lee, the man who created Spiderman. But I think he would be especially proud of this book. (20) *语料优选* ▶ a sharp pain 一阵剧痛 joint efforts 共同努力 to be fair 说句公道话 ▶ It feels so nice against my skin. The language is so descriptive. That was what really killed them off.
