第五部分 写作
Dear Mr.White,
Our English club is organizing a debate competition titled “The Pros and Cons of AI in Life”
on March 15th at 3 p. m. in the school auditorium. We would be honored if you could serve as a
judge, given your expertise in debate.
The event is scheduled to follow a standard format: opening statements (5 minutes per team),
point-by-point rebuttals (10 minutes), and closing remarks (3 minutes per team). After the debate,
we’d appreciate your feedback on logical coherence, argument strength, and language fluency, as
these are key areas for improvement.
Your insights would greatly benefit us students. Please let us know if you’re available.
Looking forward to your reply!
Yours,
Li Hua
One possible version:
I reached out and took that old drawing from under the table. The paper was soft
and a little yellow, but the star I ‘d colored with crayon was still bright. I remembered
how proud I was when I gave it to Dad---he’d held it for a long time and put it in his
wallet that day. Now I realized he’d kept it all these days, even when I’d long forgotten
about it. I thought of all the times I’d yelled at him for the noise, and how he’d never
gotten angry. My eyes started to water.
With the wood plane I’d hidden earlier in my hand, I walked over to Dad. He was
sanding a small piece of wood, and he looked up in surprise when he saw me. “Dad,
I’m sorry,” I said, handing him the plane. “I shouldn’t have hidden this, and I shouldn’t
have complained about your woodwork.” Dad smiled and patted my shoulder. “It’s okay,
kid. Want to learn how to carve a little star?” I nodded, and sat down next to him. The
sand of sanding, which used to annoy me, now felt warm and nice.
Another version:
I reached out and took that old drawing from under the table. Staring at the childish
star I had drawn a year ago, I was overwhelmed by a wave of guilt and warmth. I had
always complained about the noise Dad made, never thinking about why he kept working
late. It suddenly dawned on me that he just wanted to make delicate little gifts for me
with his own hands, silently expressing his love in his simple way. All my previous
impatience and selfishness made my face burn with shame. I held the drawing tightly,
tears welling up in my eyes.
With the wood plane I'd hidden earlier in my hand, I walked over to Dad. I
apologized to him sincerely for hiding his tool and losing my temper over the noise. A
soft smile appeared on Dad’s face, and he patted my head gently, saying he had never
minded my complaint at all. He told me he would arrange his working time properly so
as not to disturb my study. Looking at his kind and tired face, I made up my mind to
be more understanding and considerate. From then on, I learned to appreciate Dad’ s
quiet love and treasure every moment with him.
