Dear Chris,
How are things going? Recently, I’ve noticed that many historical buildings in China have
been turned into cafes and become popular Internet-famous spots. In my opinion, this
phenomenon is mostly positive and worth advocating.
On one hand, it gives old buildings a new life, allowing people to appreciate their unique
beauty while enjoying a comfortable coffee time. On the other hand, it helps spread traditional
culture to more young people, who are attracted by the special combination of history and modern
life. Of course, we should protect the original features of these buildings to avoid damaging their

An idea began to form in Leo’s mind as he looked at his classmates during a history lesson
the next day. He realized that many of them might feel just as disconnected as he once did. He
decided to use his skills in video editing to bring his grandfather’s story to life. He interviewed his
grandfather, carefully recording his memories. He scanned the old photos and diary pages. He
worked for days, combining the narration, images, and solemn music into a short documentary. He
wanted to make this piece of history feel real and personal for his generation.
On a bright Saturday morning, the community center’s exhibition hall was filled with
visitors. Leo’s video was playing on a screen. The audience, including his classmates and many
elderly residents, watched in silent respect. When the video ended, there was a moment of quiet
before warm applause filled the room. An old retired soldier shook Leo’s hand, his eyes wet.
Seeing the impact of his work, Leo understood that honoring one’s country started with
remembering its past and understanding the price of its peace. His grandfather’s pride was the
greatest reward he had ever received.
