Can you write the Chinese character(汉字)"ganga" (embarrassment) correctly? Do you know how to write
characters like "tiaozhou"(broom)?
If you can't, you're not alone. Nowadays, most people are typing into computers instead of writing on paper.
We type Chinese characters largely according to their pronunciation. The result is to recognize(认出)characters

they had once forgotten how to write a common Chinese character.
Compared to adults, teenagers are better at writing Chinese characters because they spend more time learning
and practicing at school. However, the influence of digital(数字的)technology cannot be ignored(忽视),
according to He Yu, head of a research team for Chinese teaching at a Beijing high school. "Many students are
obsessed with digital tools such as mobile phones and computers to help with their studies. As a result, too much
use of these tools will make students too lazy to think and write. " he said Such worries have brought about:
popular TV show titled Chinese Spelling Hero, which pays attention to Chinese character writing among teenagers.
In April, the Ministry of Education called for better calligraphy(书法)education in schools.
Organizations like the China Calligraphers Association are also working to train more teachers in calligraphy.
Interestingly, calligraphy teachers can't always ignore the influence of modern technology. Shen Bin is a

Money can’t buy happiness, right? Well, not true. According to a recent article in The Wall Street Journal(华
尔街日报), over the past few years, new research has given us a much deeper understanding of the relationship(关
系) between what we earn and how we feel. The research may show us the result: Yes, people who earn more
money, generally speaking, are happier than those who earn little. But the research also shows that you have to
9spend your money properly if you expect it to bring you happiness. Here are some suggestions for you to spend
your money in a better way:
Buy experiences, not material goods.
In a recent study, Ryan Howell, a professor from San Francisco State University in the US, found that when
people didn’t have enough money to enjoy a trip, they preferred to buy some material goods. But travelling with
your family or friends may bring you more happiness and the wonderful memory of the travel experience will stay
in your mind for many years.
Buy lots of little things, rather than one big thing.
No matter how much money you spend on something and how special that product is, you will get used to
having it over time and it will become just another object. People like having new things, but the happiness it brings
to you will soon disappear. Buying small things can give us small pleasures often and you can get different
surprises and happiness from different small things.
Be sure to buy time, too.
It’s also important to consider how the things you buy will affect how you spend your time. For example,
buying that big house in the countryside may seem to be a good idea, but according to The Wall Street Journal,
people who spend more time on the way to work are not so happy as those who live near the workplace.
Try giving it away.
Elizabeth Dunn, a professor of a University in Canada, found that in countries such as Canada, South Africa
and Uganda, giving away money to the poor made people happier. This was even true when people were giving
away even when they themselves were really poor.
48.From the passage we know ________.

Once a circle lost a piece of its own. The circle wanted to be whole, so it went around looking for its missing
piece. But because it was incomplete, it could only roll very slowly. It admired the flowers, chatted with worms and
enjoyed the sunshine along the way. It found lots of different pieces, but none of them fit. So it left them all by the
11side of the road and kept on looking for the missing piece.
Then one day the circle found a piece that fit perfectly. The circle put the missing piece into itself. It could be
whole with nothing missing. It was so happy and began to roll. Now that it was a perfect circle, it could roll very
fast, too fast to see flowers or talk to worms. It realized how different the world was when it rolled so quickly. It felt
so sad that____ _▲ .
Sometimes we are more perfect when we lose something. A man who has everything is a poor man in some
ways. He will never have hopes, dreams or something better. He will never know someone is loving him or
someone is giving him something.
Life is not a spelling game. No matter how many words you got right, you fail if you make one mistake. Life
is more like a basketball season. Even the best team loses one third of its games and even the worst team has its
good days. Our goal is to win more games than we lose. When we accept that imperfection is part of being human,
and when we can continue rolling through life and enjoy it, we will have reached a wholeness.
We couldn't be perfect, but we must be brave enough to love, stron g enough to forgive(原谅), kind
enough to share happiness with others and clever enough to know there is enough love around us and then we can
always live a wonderful time in our lives.
52.The circle did the following things EXCEPT(除了)__________ when it rolled slowly.

Small talk like “What do you have there? Ice-cream?” or “The weather today is beautiful, isn't it?” is a waste
of time, according to some people. But scientists believe that it is actually more useful than it may appear to be.
One example comes when you are on a train or a plane. The thought of talking to the stranger can be scary and
silly. But a study by the University of Chicago found that people who chat to strangers enjoy a better ride than those
who sit in silence or keep playing their phones.
In the study, researchers asked people at Chicago train stations to start conversations with fellow travelers.
13Most of them refused to do so at first because they didn't expect to get a friendly answer. But the result is the
opposite-most strangers didn't refuse to be talked to; instead, they were glad to talk to.
“Human beings are social animals,” Nicholas Epley, one of the researchers said, “Other people are people, too.
And it turns out that they'd like to get to know you.”
What's more, small talk with strangers can help you feel related to your surroundings(环境). Some studies
found when people are often smiled at and spoken to, there is more chance for them to have a stronger sense of
belonging instead of feeling like they are being forgotten.
However, if you are already comfortable enough to make small talk with strangers, you should try to develop
it into something “bigger”.
A 2010 study proved that having a deep and meaningful conversation gives you even more happiness than
small talk. Participants(参与者) in the study reported that compared with some simple greetings and replies, they
were a lot happier when they went on with the small talk and further it into in-depth conversations.
But deep conversations can start with small talk, can't they? So the first step is to start talking, no matter how
casual the topic is. And who knows, maybe an opening line as simple as “I like your hat” could lead to a serious
conversation in which you learn a lot from a stranger.
56.According to Nicholas Epley, what is the reason for the result of the study by the University of Chicago?
A.Most people are scared of being refused.
B.People are naturally interested in others.
C.People are afraid of being lonely or bored.
D.People try to show their good side to strangers.
57.Which of the following is an advantage of small talk?
A.Wasting less time.
B.Getting more smiles.
C.Staying away from phones for a little while.
D.Feeling like you are a part of your surroundings.
58.Which of the following shows the structure of the passage?
(①②③④⑤⑥⑦⑧=Paragraphs1-8)
A.①/②③④⑤/⑥⑦/⑧ B.①/②③④/⑤⑥⑦/⑧
C.①/②③/④⑤/⑥⑦⑧ D.①/②③④⑤/⑥⑦⑧
59.What can we infer about the author's attitude toward small talk?
A.The author thinks deep conversations may start before small talk.
B.The author believes small talk is useless without deep conversations.
14C.The author agrees people should start small talk actively.
D.The author doubts whether people should start small talk.

Suppose a man has a car accident. He is hurt badly and is unconscious (失去知觉的),that is, he can’t think,
speak, or hear. His family takes him to the hospital. The doctors tell the family that his brain is dead. A machine can
make him breathe (呼吸).
Now the patient’s family must answer some difficult questions. Should they think he is dead? Should they ask
the doctors to use the machine to make him breathe? Usually, machines can make an unconscious person breathe
for several years. However, if his brain is dead, he will never think, speak, or hear again. Then, should his family
ask the doctors not to use the machine and let him die?
Someone who is unconscious can’t say he wants to die. Can his family say this for him? Some people think
this is a good idea, but others don’t think so.
Many people are hurt when machines keep a person alive. The unconscious person doesn't know this. Machine
only makes the family and friends hurt longer.

A good memory is often seen as something that comes naturally, while a bad memory is something that cannot
be changed.
In fact, there is a lot that you can do to 7 4 . your memory. Here are some tips for you.
◆Take an interest.
We all remember the things we are interested in, and always forget the ones that bore us. This explains the
reason why schoolboys remember football results 7 5 . but struggle(挣扎)with dates from their history lessons!
Develop an active interest in what you want to remember. One way to make 7 6 . more interested is to ask
questions-the more, the better!
◆Repeat things in chunks(块).
Repeating things in chunks is the best way to remember things for a 7 7 . time. For example, remembering a
phone number for a few seconds. Grouping numbers may help you to remember them.
The following numbers would be impossible for most of us to remember: 1492178919318483. But look at
them in “ 7 8 . ” or “chunks” repeatedly and it becomes much easier:149 217 8919 318 483.
◆Invent a story.
To remember long lists, try inventing a story which includes all the things you want to remember.
In experiments, people were 7 9 . to remember up to 120 words using this way. When they were tested later,
they could remember 90% 8 0 . them. The test result was really amazing!
◆Take physical exercise.

A good memory is often seen as something that
comes naturally, while a bad memory as something that cannot be changed.”
(挣扎)with dates from their history lessons”形成对比,表示轻易记住比赛结果,用于句中修饰动词
remember,故填easily。
76.
Develop an active interest in what you
want to remember.”
For example, remembering a phone
number for a fewer seconds.”
“Grouping numbers may help you to remember them.”
In experiments, people were…to
remember up to 120 words using this way.”
When they were tested later, they could
remember 90%…them.”
“it
sends more oxygen (氧气) to your brain, and that makes your memory work better”是“Physical exercise is
important for your memory”的原因,可使用because引导原因状语从句,故填because。
