Mr. James Scott has a garage in Silbury and now he has just bought another [1]

get a telephone for his new garage, so he has just bought twelve pigeons. Yesterday, a
pigeon carried the first message from Pinhurst to Silbury. The bird covered the

[4] a great many ＋可数名词，表示“大量，许多”。
类似意思的短语还有a lot of （＋可数/不可数名词），
a great number of（＋可数名词）等。其中great 表示数量很大。
