say后面是省略that的宾语从句：

the Times shouldn’t waste time getting out of the print business, but only if they go about doing it the right way.

宾语从句是but连接的两个句子：

① the Timesshouldn’t waste time getting out of the print business

get out of：移除

② but only if they go about doing it the right way.

only if 只要；只有。这里的正确处理是抽象内容，下一句会具体说。

②“Figuring out a way to accelerate that transition would make sense for them,”he said , “but if you discontinue it, you’re going to have your most loyal customers really upset with you.”他说：“想办法加速转型对他们来说才是明智的；但是，如果，终止了纸质报纸，将会伤透最忠诚的客户的心。”

he said部分是主谓，放在了句子中间，双引号部分是直接引语，就是佩雷蒂说的原话，原话是but连接的两个句子

figuring部分是分词短语做主语

figure out：想出；弄明白；解决

accelerate vt. 加速

transition n. 过度；转变；转型

that transition指上一句说的正确处理，即：转型，而不是直接不出版了

make sense：有意义

②if you discontinue it, you’re going to haveyour most loyal customers reallyupset with you.

if部分是条件状语从句

discontinue vt.停止；停产；中断

loyal adj. 忠诚的；衷心的

have sb do sth：让某人做某事

总结：第四段是说，不要浪费时间在消除纸质版报纸上，而是，要想如何转型。不是应该一下直接停止出版纸质版的报纸，如果这样做，会伤害那些最忠诚的读者。这里的读者指的是那些喜欢纸质版报纸的人（忠实读者），如果一下子不出版，就会伤害这些人的心，而且，他们还是忠实读者。所以，《纽约时报》要做的是转型，而不是，停产纸质版报纸。
