Bloom at Your Own Pace
Exam papers were handed out one after another and landed quietly on every desk. Staring at the red scores on my paper, I knew I failed to get the top rank. Low whispers spread around me as the teacher read out everyone’s rankings slowly. Disappointment welled up inside me, and I felt my dream of entering my ideal university gradually run away.
I had long been pushing myself hard just to achieve high rankings. I rose early in the morning and stayed up late studying every day, arranging all my time tightly for different school subjects. I once firmly believed that taking first place constantly would prepare me for a better future. This belief once motivated me greatly, yet endless pressure soon tired me out. I often felt eye discomfort and mental tiredness, and the top position always seemed impossible to reach.
Feeling low, I left the classroom alone. The air was fresh with the smell of rain. I stopped at a quiet little garden beside the library, which I had never taken time to visit before.
An elderly gardener was busy tending flowers and watering plants with great care. Only a handful of flowers were in bloom among green leaves. I couldn’t help questioning whether all his efforts were worthwhile.
Sensing my confusion, the old man smiled and began to chat with me. He told me that every flower has its own flowering time. Some blossom early, while others need more time to grow. As long as they get enough sunshine, water and proper care, they will surely bloom perfectly when the right time comes. Instead of rushing for results, we should learn to wait patiently and focus on steady growth.
