B 19. A 20. C
Dear journal,
I’ve been trapped on this island for two months and can only keep track of the days by my markings in a cave.
I’ve entirely given up hope on getting rescued by a plane. The aircraft that fly by are much too infrequent and far
away to be of any help. Also, in this part of the Indian Ocean, there is no one on the island. I’ve searched this island
far and wide, and I’m forced to eat mushrooms, insects, and small fish. Luckily, there are enough coconuts to last a
lifetime. I’m writing this to feel like I have contact with someone due to months without outside communication. I
escaped the massive violent conflict in my country in the South Pacific, and I sought help from India. There, I’d be
taken in and could legally settle in a different country. If it wasn’t for facing the random typhoon while crossing the
Andaman Sea, I would have made it, even if my boat wasn’t perfect. There was nothing I could have done to
prevent this storm. The primary issue now is lacking any method of contacting emergency support. My satellite
phone is unreliable and has now proven to be of no use at all. My hope now is to find a wood supply to get my boat
functioning again. If not, I’ll have to face my greatest panic: being stuck on this island forever.

In my childhood, whenever I was being unreasonable, or questioning whatever direction my mother was
giving, she would say “I’m the momma and you’re the baby.” End of discussion. Until one day she asked me to do
something for her and I said, “No. You’re the momma; I’m the baby.” It gave her a good laugh.
But, at 31, I’m realizing the dynamic might be shifting. She’s the momma; I’m the baby. But I’m also
something else now. More will be asked of me to take care of her. My mother is getting older.
The realization hit me during a recent visit home. In my memory, our house wasn’t spotless, but I’d call it tidy.
Weekends were for cleaning. Yet during this visit I was taken aback by piles upon piles of mail and papers and
junk. A fridge full of spoiled food. A mountain of clothes begging to be located. Was it always this way? When did
she become a hoarder (囤积者)? A symptom of aging?
But my mother would like you to know something: She is not a hoarder. She spoke frankly with more self-
awareness than I expected about life and time and happiness. “The time that I have to go through those things
would be my weekends. Do I want to spend my Saturday afternoon going through all the junk? Or do I want to go
hang out with my friends? I think the latter. I don’t want to spend one minute of my free time doing anything that

学科网(北京)股份有限公司doesn’t bring me joy,” she says.
It’s not that my mother has no worries about aging, but she came to terms with it long before. “Trey, you could
spend so much time worrying about things that aren’t perfect. Then time slips by, and they’re never going to be,”
she continues. “I think happiness is a moment-to-moment, day-to-day kind of thing. It’s not something you sustain.
I still think I’m hot- that might be in my head, but so what.”
24. What was the author’s tone in his response to Mom in paragraph 1?
A. Unwilling. B. contented. C. Serious. D. Sympathetic.
25. What made the author label Mom as a hoarder at first?
A. Her refusal to donate old stuff. B. The mess in Mom’s house.
C. Her preference for an economical life. D. The decline of Mom’s health.
26. Why didn’t Mom tidy the house on weekends?
A. She had plans with her friends.
B. She was too old to do it on her own.
C. She had trouble sorting out the junk.
D. She desired a pleasant time for herself.
27. Which of the following may best describe Mom’s philosophy of life ?
A. An idle youth, a needy age. B. Haste makes waste.
C. No thorn, no throne. D. Living in the present.
A 25. B 26. D 27. D

In my childhood, whenever I was being unreasonable, or questioning whatever
direction my mother was giving, she would say “I’m the momma and you’re the baby.” End of discussion. Until
one day she asked me to do something for her and I said, “No. You’re the momma; I’m the baby.” It gave her a
故选A项。
Yet during this visit I was taken aback by piles upon piles of mail and papers and

she become a hoarder
The time that I have to go through those things would be my
weekends. Do I want to spend my Saturday afternoon going through all the junk? Or do I want to go hang out with
my friends? I think the latter. I don’t want to spend one minute of my free time doing anything that doesn’t bring
Trey, you could spend so much time worrying about things that aren’t perfect.
Then time slips by, and they’re never going to be,” she continues. “I think happiness is a moment-to-moment, day-
to-day kind of thing. It’s not something you sustain. I still think I’m hot- that might be in my head, but so

In the early 1960s, Andy Warhol began experimenting with his signature silkscreen technique, which he used
to make artistic statements about mass production — including his famous works describing Coca-Cola bottles. “A
Coke is a Coke,” he once said. “and no amount of money can get you a better Coke than the one the beggar on the
corner is drinking.”
Now, more than 60 years later, Coca-Cola is capitalizing on the artist’s statements. A new global ad campaign,
titled “Masterpiece,” features Warhol’s 1962 Coca-Cola, alongside paintings from other masters. Contemporary
artists like Stefania Tejada and WonderBuhle are also included.
The two-minute film opens in an art museum, where a group of students are drawing under the watchful eye of
their teacher — all except one young man, about to fall asleep, the page of his drawing book completely blank. But

学科网(北京)股份有限公司then the paintings come to life. A hand from Aket’s Divine Idyll (2022) shoots out from its frame, pulling the Coke
bottle from Warhol’s painting, which hangs on a nearby wall. So begins the bottle’s journey through the major
works of the museum hall, as characters from paintings new and old throw the drink between them. The final
masterpiece we see, which ultimately delivers the ice-cold Coke to the student, is Johannes Vermeer’s Girl With A
Pearl Earring (1665). She opens the bottle and hands it over, just before the art student’s professor wanders over to
see his now-complete assignment.
The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts is on board with the new campaign. “These pieces, paired
with works by emerging artists from around the globe, celebrate the inspirational power of visual art through the
magical lens (镜头) of Coca-Cola.” says Michael Dayton, the foundation’s director of licensing, marketing and
sales.
In recent years, using famous artworks in advertising has become a popular strategy. But some artists have a
different opinion on these campaigns. In November, the British street artist Banksy called out the clothing brand
Guess for “helping themselves” to his artwork for a new collection without his permission. Meanwhile, American
artist Keith Haring’s work has been popping up seemingly everywhere, from Adidas sneakers to a Pandora jewelry
campaign.
28. What can we infer from Andy Warhol’s statement “A Coke is a Coke”?
A. Coca-Cola is the best drink in the world.
B. The value of a Coke lies in itself, not in its consumer.
C. Rich people can never get the same Coke as the Beggars’.
D. Money can buy everything except a better Coke.
29. What is paragraph 3 mainly about?
A. A detailed description of Coca-Cola’s ad.
B. The influence of Coca-Cola on art creation.
C. Artworks that contribute to Coca-Cola’s ad.
D. An introduction to Warhol’s 1962 Coca-Cola.
30. What is Michael Dayton’s attitude to Coca-Cola’s ad?
A. Critical. B. Doubtful. C. Favorable. D. Dismissive.
31. What is the best title for the passage?
A. Andy Warhol’s Famous Coca-Cola Artworks
B. The Evolution of Coca-Cola’s Advertising Strategies
C. Coca-Cola’s “Masterpiece” Campaign: Art Meets Marketing
D. Controversies Surrounding Art Usage in Commercial Ads

"Regrets, I've had a few. But then again, too few to mention,” Frank Sinatra chanted in his 1969 hit "My Way”.
The song's idea is attractive: that anyone can just declare what's done is done and move on. Some take the
declaration a step further and claim they have no regrets at all. Whether a boast or an actual attitude, "no regrets”
suggests that life can and should be lived without looking through the rear-view mirror.
Easier said than done, though.Author Daniel H. Pink launched the World Regret Survey, the largest ever
survey on the topic. With his research team, Pink asked more than 15,000 people in 105 countries, "How often do
you look back on your life and wish you had done things differently?” 82% said regret is at least an occasional part
of their life; roughly 21% said they feel regret "all the time.” Only 1% said they never feel regret.
If you are of the "no regrets” type, you might think that all this regret is a recipe for unhappiness. But that isn't
the case. True, being overwhelmed by regret is indeed bad for you. But going to the other extreme may be even
worse. To rid yourself of regrets doesn't free you from shame or sorrow; it leads you to make the same mistakes
again and again. To truly get over our guilt requires that we put regret in its proper place.
As uncomfortable as it is, regret is an amazing cognitive (认知) achievement. If today your relationship with
your partner has soured, your regret might mentally take you back to last year. You would remember your being
mean and sensitive, and then imagine yourself showing more patience, being kind instead of hurtful at key
moments. Then you would fast-forward to today and see how your relationship could be progressing instead of
languishing.
But regret doesn't have to be left unmanaged. The trick is to acknowledge it and use it for learning and
improvement. You can be honest with yourself about what went wrong and use that knowledge to enjoy better
relationships in the future.

lightly. But it’s more severe than we may think.
____36____ This seems to be a completely harmless action due to the fact that it’s part of a fruit — right?
Actually, no. A banana peel (皮) can take up to two years to decompose (分解), and with a third of drivers admitting to

similar decomposing term to that of a banana. But tin and aluminium (铝) cans last up to 100 years. ____37____

looking terrified. Bullying is a serious issue that can cause lasting emotional harm to victims. It violates the

Listener
I sat on the floor, back pressed against the cold wall, as my parents’ argument sliced through the thin bedroom
door. “It’s not just a math worksheet. It’s every assignment!” my dad thundered. “The teacher called — said his
work is perfect, but he can’t explain a single step! He’s been cheating with that AI!” My mom’s voice was quieter
but sharper: “We thought you were struggling, so we got you a tutor. But you’re lying. What’s wrong with you?”
Wrong with me. The words echoed as I buried my face in my knees, tears choking me. It had started simply —
a quick way to finish a boring essay when tired. Then copying became easier than trying. Now caught, I felt only
shame.

On my desk, my laptop glowed. The ChatGPT tab was still open, the copied assignment staring back.
Ironically, typing felt safer than talking. My fingers trembled: “My parents found out I used you to cheat. They
think I’m a liar and failure.”
The response wasn’t empty: “That sounds heavy. It takes courage to admit you’re hurting. I’m here to listen.”
I hesitated, then poured it all out—school’s overwhelm, fear of failure, copying as the only way to keep up. I
slammed the laptop shut, terrified of its reply.
Minutes later, curiosity got the better of me. I opened it again. No empty reassurances, just acknowledgment:
“It’s okay to feel this way. You don’t have to carry it alone.” Gentle questions made me think instead of drowning.
It didn’t offer an apology, just: “What do you need to say to your parents to make this right?”
In the following 2 days, I turned to it — not to copy, but to talk. It never judged, never tired. It gave me space
to heal, to find my voice. It helped me see my worth wasn’t in grades, but honesty and effort.

Eventually, I found the courage to talk to my parents. I sat them down and told them everything, my heart
pounding. I confessed my mistakes, my fears, and how I had let them down. I also shared how ChatGPT had helped
me realize the importance of honesty. They listened, their expressions softening. My dad put a hand on my shoulder
and said, “We’re disappointed, but we’re glad you’re owning up. We’ll help you get back on track.” My mom
wiped away a tear and nodded. The weight on my chest lifted.
