Shortly before Christmas in 2024, Brazilian pianist Martins invited his friends to a bar near his home, showing
them the best gift he had received: a new pair of gloves.
第4页/共22页
学科网(北京)股份有限公司They aren’t just any gloves, however. The specially made bionic (仿生学的) devices are letting the 79-year-
old play with both hands for the first time in over 20 years. The artist is considered one of the greatest players of the
music of Johann Sebastian Bach.
Martins retired in 2024. By then, he had undergone 24 medical procedures to try to reduce pain caused by a
progressive disease and from a series of accidents. His limitations had forced him to work mostly as a musical
conductor since the early 2000s. But in the final days of 2019, friends returned to his home. They listened to him
once again bringing his favourite classical music back to life on his piano. Before the gloves especially developed
for him, Martins could only play songs slowly with his thumbs and, sometimes, his pointer fingers.
Martins’ health problems date from 1965. He became known for coming back from every struggle he faced.
For example, he suffered nerve damage in his arm from a soccer injury. But even his close friends believed that the
latest surgery, on his left hand, would mark the end of his days as a pianist.
However, one designer, Ubirata Bizarro Costa, created special bionic gloves for Martins’ hands. The gloves
help move his fingers up after they press on the piano keys. Costa created early models based on images of Martins’
hands. But he said those models were “far from ideal”. He then decided to tell Martins about his efforts. Costa and
Martins then spent several months testing different models. The perfect match came in December, and cost only
$125 to build.
The new gloves have given Martins a new goal. He hopes to play the piano at New York’s Carnegie Hall. He
is already set to conduct a concert celebrating the 60th anniversary of his first appearance there.
4. Why did Martins specifically invite his friends to the bar?
A. To showcase his new compositions.
B. To celebrate his physical recovery.
C. To share the joy of his artistic rebirth.
D. To announce his new performance schedule.
5. What may be the evaluation of the effectiveness of his latest surgery?
A. A wonder. B. Great regret.
C. An unavoidable accident. D. An unexpected success.
6. What can be inferred from the text?
A. Costa is passionate about classical music.
B. Costa is a person full of kindness and creativity.
C. Martins has never performed at Carnegie Hall before.
D. It was in the 2010s that Martins was unemployed.
7. What is the purpose of the text?
第5页/共22页
学科网(北京)股份有限公司A. To advertise a special concert.
B. To promote a new technology.
C. To tell us about magic gloves letting a pianist play again.
D. To introduce an outstanding musician.

新能够弹奏。故选C项。

The world is moving so fast these days that if you do not have the right education, you could get left behind.
Technology touches every part of our daily lives — even the fast food industry relies on computer assisted
systems to speed things to their customers. If you cannot figure out the computer at your local fast food shop,
where will that leave you?
Once upon a time, you could have a good life with nothing more than a high school diploma (文凭), but those
times are gone now. Competition for even the lowest level jobs is intense, and most employers will give the edge to
that extra education now. Jobs that never required a degree before now will certainly be given to the most educated
candidate (申请者) as markets grow tighter and tighter.
Education is not only important on the job front, however. Recent studies show that continually-learning will
keep your brain more healthy. The more active you keep your brain now, the more active it will remain in the long
run. It does make sense if you think about it: if you start jogging, your body feels healthier after a while and will
actually long for exercise. The same could probably be said for your brain: make it work to learn something new,
and it will continually seek out the stimulation (刺激) of new information to keep itself sharp.
Education is important for your sense of self and self-esteem (自尊). If you allow yourself to think that you
are poorly educated, you therefore deserve an old car, a small house and a poor life. Stop feeling sorry for yourself
and take charge of your own fate. Realize that you are a different person now and evaluate why you did so poorly
in the past. Was it because you just could not learn; or because you did not want to focus on your education at that
time? You are an adult now and will be more focused and goal driven. Never say no to education, never say no to
yourself.
8. Why does the author mention “the fast food industry” in the first paragraph?
A. To tell us that we can’t break away from technology.
B. To lead in the topic of development of fast food industry.
.
C To show the big changes of modern life.
第7页/共22页
学科网(北京)股份有限公司D. To introduce a new fast food shop.
9. What does Paragraph 2 mainly talk about?
A. The difficulty of selecting good candidates.
B. The disordered employment situation.
C. The importance of education for job hunting.
D. The uselessness of high school diploma.
10. What should we do to keep our brain sharp according to the text?
A. Ensure a healthy diet every day.
B. Make our brain work to learn something new.
C. Early to bed and early to rise.
D. Do as much physical exercise as possible.
11. Who are the suggestions in the last paragraph probably for?
A. Those who have small cars.
B. Those who live in old houses.
C. Those who have graduated from colleges recently.
D. Those who have low self-esteem because of poor education.
【答案】8. A 9. C 10. B 11. D
【解析】
【导语】这是一篇说明文。文章主要讲述了在快速发展的现代社会,教育至关重要。
【8题详解】
推理判断题。根据第一段“Technology touches every part of our daily lives — even the fast food industry

中的广泛应用,作者提到“快餐业”是为了说明我们离不开技术。故选A。

此:让它工作去学习新事物,它会不断地寻求新信息的刺激来保持敏锐。)”可知,为了让大脑保持敏锐,

【11题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段“Education is important for your sense of self and self-esteem. If you allow yourself
to think that you are poorly educated, you therefore deserve an old car, a small house and a poor life. Stop feeling

Since 2010, nearly every country has seen an increase in the number of cancer patients. The WHO reports one
in six people will develop cancer in their lifetime. At least 10 million people will die from the disease every year. If
the current trend continues, new cancer cases will rise by 60 percent by the year 2040. In low- and middle-income
countries, they will rise by more than 80 percent.
Andre Ilbawi, WHO’s technical officer in cancer control, says more people are dying from cancer in poorer
countries. Controlling the disease does not have to cost a lot. The WHO report, he explained, shows that by
investing in cancer services, governments can save 7 million lives by 2030. “And that is at the cost of $2.70 per
person in low-income countries and $8.15 per person in upper middle-income countries. This is feasible,” Ilbawi
said.
WHO says cancer does not have to be a death sentence. Prevention works.
There have been great improvements in research on cancer prevention and treatment. These measures are
successfully keeping many people alive who otherwise would have died. Preventive policies can work in powerful
ways to reduce not only cancer numbers and death rates, but also the social and economic inequality in cancer
cases. An example of such a policy is one that reduces workers’ contact with cancer-causing materials. Other
examples are measures to control tobacco use, vaccination against cancer-causing infectious agents and testing for
early stages of cancer.
In its report, WHO describes a series of measures proven to help in preventing new cancer cases. For example,
it notes that tobacco-related diseases are responsible for 25 percent of cancer deaths. Deciding not to smoke, it says,
can save billions of dollars and millions of lives. WHO adds that a vaccine against hepatitis B (乙肝) can prevent
liver cancer. It notes another vaccine against HPV can nearly fight off cervical cancer (宫颈癌).
12. How does the author lead in the topic?
第9页/共22页
学科网(北京)股份有限公司A. By citing specific data. B. By making a comparison.
C. By giving a vivid example. D. By clarifying a personal viewpoint.
13. What does the underlined word “feasible” in Paragraph 2 mean?
A. Practicable. B. Valuable. C. incredible. D. Responsible.
14. What is the author’s attitude towards cancer prevention?
A. Unclear. B. Unconcerned. C. Hopeful. D. Critical.
15. What can be the suitable title for the text?
A. The Latest Report By The WHO.
B. Prevention Is Better Than cure.
C. Cancers Increasing But Not a Death Sentence.
D. WHO: Cancer Poses a Great Threat To Humanity.
【答案】12. A 13. A 14. C 15. C

which。

My favourite Chinese comedian is Shen Teng. Born in 1979, he’s a top actor and comedian, famous for his work in
the “Mahua FunAge” team and hit comedy films.
I love him for two main reasons. First, his humor is smart and warm — he makes people laugh without silly
jokes. Second, he adds depth to his roles. Even in funny scenes, he can touch hearts, showing life’s little truths. Shen
Teng is not only funny but also makes comedies meaningful.

47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
My family collects cans and bottles from sunup to sundown all year long. I started when I was 12, watching
my parents glazed in sweat, as if it had just rained on them. Despite the aches and the tireless nights, their smiles
shone as they worked.
My mother leaves at dawn to collect cans, and when she returns 12 hours later, I help her pull the shopping
cart the six long blocks to the recycling centre through the streets of Bushwick. Although this centre has been like
my second home for the past years, I have kept it mostly a secret. I usually did this work after school, except for
Mondays, when I would go early to bring my mum breakfast and supplies like gloves, tape, and beer boxes.
But I couldn’t bear the idea of my friends knowing our family lived off other people’s garbage. I felt guilty for
being embarrassed, but I couldn’t help it. Even though I had a lot of friends and was a social butterfly, I was not
ready to trust someone else.
Then, in the summer before my senior year, I took a college essay course at Long Island University in
Brooklyn. The essay prompt was: “The lessons we take from obstacles we encounter can be fundamental to later
success. Recount a time when you faced a challenge, setback, or failure. How did it affect you, and what did you
learn from the experience?”
I chose to write about the impact my neighbourhood’s gentrification (中产阶级化) had on me, and how that
led me to volunteer with officials in my community who were trying to fight it. At the end, there was just one
sentence about can collecting.
One day after class, my teacher asked me to discuss my essay draft. “Your story has potential; however, it is
not about personal growth. How about you tell me about the can collecting?” So, once again, I was faced with
sharing my secret. But he was my teacher and I trusted him, so I rewrote the essay. Two days later, I found out that
we were expected to read our essays out loud after lunch, but I was ashamed for my peers to know.

【答案】
While I was making my way to the cafeteria, I came across Mason, the friend with whom I usually have lunch.
My heart sank as I thought about the essay I was about to present, which included the secret I had kept for so long.
“Hey, what’s up? You look nervous,” Mason said, noticing my unease. I hesitated for a moment before deciding to
confide in him. “I have to read an essay about my family collecting cans, and I’m afraid everyone will think it’s
weird,” I admitted. Mason smiled reassuringly and said, “That’s actually really cool! It shows how hardworking
your family is.”
Upon our return to the classroom, I was all set to read my draft aloud. As I began, I noticed that some of my
classmates were looking at me with curiosity rather than judgment. I realized then that sharing my story was not as
scary as I had thought. What mattered most was being honest about who I was and where I came from. After I
finished, there was a round of applause, and I felt a sense of relief and pride. The experience taught me that opening
up could lead to unexpected support and understanding.
