But sadly, not everyone around me enjoyed reading as much as I did, and not being able to talk about my favorite hobby with my friends made my reading a lonely experience. In my senior year of high school, I came across a channel (频 道 ), “Clau Reads Books” run by Claudia Ramírez Lomelí, who makes book- related content in Spanish, and was introduced to the book world of social media. I could finally hear someone else’s reaction to the stories I like. I love her videos because we prefer the same kind of books. Finally, I followed her on another social networking site, and I learned about the community on it where users blog (写网络日志) about their favorite books. I really wanted to be part of this space and seeing others being closely connected and supportive made it seem like an acceptable community. However, I doubted my ability to express my thoughts well because I was poor at creating content to interest other readers. Therefore, I started reading blogs on how to start a new account (账 户 ) for guidance and after weeks of researching, I learned about the necessary social media skills. I had to spend time designing small sets and finding natural lighting and household items for photo shoots, and learn how to write interesting review s while using hashtags (话题) in posts to attract other users. My first post was a photo of my favorite book, Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick, with my hand’s shadow cast on a page. I also took pictures of several of my favorite sentences from the book and included a few hashtags to attract attention. Attracting people with similar interest was hard at first. But gradually, it became kid’s stuff. The community quickly became a good place for me to talk about my favorite books with people having the same interest. 4. Why did the 12-year-old author feel upset? A. She couldn’t spare time for play. B. No one around her liked reading. C. She couldn’t share her love of reading. D. No friend was fond of her favorite book. 5. What can we learn about Claudia Ramírez Lomelí? A. She comes from Spain. B. She taught the author how to blog. 第 5页/共 12页C. She hosts a TV program. D. She led the author to a new book world. 6. What is mainly talked about in paragraph 3? A. Skills of choosing suitable hashtags. B. The author’s efforts to attract viewers. C. Guidance on starting new accounts. D. The author’s techniques for creating content. 7. What does the author think of attracting people with similar interest now? A. It is easily done. B. It is hard for kids. C. It is easier said than done. D. It needs topics about kids. C “It felt like magic.” Joshua Vermillion was describing the first time he used artificial intelligence (AI) to make an image. Vermillion is an architect and designer. He creates artwork of spaces. Before he started using AI to do this, Vermillion would make maybe 10 pieces in a year. Last year, though, he made around 150 works. “I can just simply tell the computer what I want in simple English,” he says. “What a time to be alive!” Many other artists, though, aren’t so ecstatic about AI-generated art. Katria Raden is an independent illustrator and author. People used to hire her regularly to create art for marketing materials or to illustrate children’s books. Last year, almost no one reached out about these types of jobs. The rise of AI may help explain this. “At times I think it’s a bad dream,” she says. “I feel scared and angry, but also pretty sad.” Using AI to create an image is quick and easy. There are many popular image generators. They are cheap or even free to use. They also pose threats to some artists’ jobs. But the problems go deeper than that. These images were scraped (勉强获得) from the Internet. Data scraping automatically pulls files from web pages. Often, no one asks permission or checks what these files contain. Thousands of artists’ names and works have been found in the data set. Illegal or harmful images and people’s personal photos are also among those data. Raden doesn’t like the way AI image generators were trained or how they’ re being used. “It will have a bad effect,” she says. Many artists agree with her. Vermillion sees their point. But for him, the rise of AI tools has been mostly positive. At design workshops he runs, he always asks people how they use AI in their works. He recalls one participant saying, “Sometimes I just need a creative partner that doesn’t think like I do.” AI, he feels, can play that role. 8. How does AI affect Vermillion? A. He lives a simple life. B. He becomes highly productive. 第 6页/共 12页C. He is filled with a sense of loss. D. He tends to write children’s books. 9. What does the underlined word “ecstatic” in paragraph 3 mean? A. Regretful. B. Curious. C. Excited. D. Ashamed. 10. What does Raden think of AI? A. It threatens her work. B. It increases her income. C. It is a convenience for her. D. It enables her to work freely. 11. What is the author’s purpose in writing the text? A. To recommend a book about AL B. To introduce an admirable artist. C. To share various opinions on AL D. To voice his views on modern life. D A rare moss (苔藓) called takakia has adapted over hundreds of millions of years to survive the extremes of life on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. And there is a team of researchers who have been studying the moss for nearly ten years. Takakia includes just two species, both of which are found only on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Takakia in this location has been buried under snow for eight months of the year and it faced strong UV rays when it came from its snowy cover. Takakia has been developing here for over 65 million years, with the habitat increasingly becoming extreme. The researchers record how climate change has greatly changed the moss’ habitat within just a few years. And the team is surprised to find takakia’s shape in 165 million-year-old fossils (化石) , showing that genetic changes affecting the shape developed more than 165 million years ago under wildly different conditions. Despite having hundreds of millions of years to adapt to climate change, the little moss will be ended if the global climate keeps getting warmer. Since they began taking measurements of takakia’s habitat in the early 2010s, the researchers have described an average temperature increase of almost 0.5℃ per year. Meanwhile, the glacier (冰川) near sample sites is melting at an alarming pace-around 50 meters per year. The researchers note that takakia’s populations have become significantly smaller over the study period. During the ten years, the coverage of takakia’s populations decreased by 1.6% every year, faster than that of four local common mosses — a trend they expect to continue. “Our study shows how valuable takakia is in tracing the development of land plants. The population reduction we found is frightening,” a researcher says. “Luckily, knowing that the plant is threatened by extinction also gives us a chance to protect it. For example, we can grow it in the lab,” another researcher says. “Takakia has seen the 第 7页/共 12页dinosaurs come and go. It has seen us humans coming. Now we can learn something about adaptive ability and extinction from this moss.” 12. What can be inferred about takakia on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau from the text? A Its habitat is free from snow. B. It has been developing wildly in China. C. It has adapted to extreme conditions for quite a time. D. Its genes have been unchanged for millions of years. 13. What might be the main threat to takakia according to paragraph 3? A. The rise of glacial water. B. Human harvesting. C. The competition with the local mosses. D. Global warming. 14. What is the attitude of the two researchers in the last paragraph to takakia? A. Curious. B. Concerned. C. Indifferent. D. Impatient. 15. Which of the following can be the best title for the text? A. The Ancient History of Takakia B. The Unique Adaptive Ability of Takakia C. The Threatened Survival of Takakia D.
