What will cars be like in 2027? At the 33rd annual meeting of the China Society of Automotive Engineers, held from October 27 to 30, experts shared a 'technology map'. It says one-piece magnesium parts will reach more models next year, making cars about 20 percent lighter and cutting costs by over 15 percent.

The most exciting change may be the AI inside the car. In 2027, major models will move from the cloud down to the car and run offline. China Moves Eastern Computing Tasks to Western Hubs

Computing power means the ability to process data. It is invisible, but it supports many things in daily life, such as AI chatbots, navigation apps and online shopping recommendations. This year, China plans to build six major networks, including water, power, logistics and a computing power network, which is the foundation of artificial intelligence.

In 2022, China started the 'Eastern Data, Western Computing' project, moving computing tasks from busy eastern cities to the west, where energy is rich and the climate is cool. Guizhou, Inner Mongolia, Gansu and Ningxia have become national computing hubs. Qingyang in Gansu now runs more than 110,000 standard racks, and Zhongwei in Ningxia has over 230,000.

Guizhou has 50 key data centres, and more than 98 percent of its computing power is intelligent computing. The special effects of over 160 films, including Ne Zha 2, were made there, and AI models like DeepSeek were also trained with its support. By 2030, China aims to reach 9,800 EFLOPS of intelligent computing.
