Swallow Dates Whole

One day, several people were chatting. An old man said, "Pears are good for our teeth, but if we eat too many, they'll harm our spleen. Dates are good for the spleen, but too many will damage our teeth."

A young man thought for a moment and said, "I've got a great idea! It can let us enjoy the benefits of pears for teeth without hurting our spleen, and enjoy the benefits of dates for the spleen without harming our teeth."

The old man was curious and quickly asked, "What's your idea? Share it with us!"

The young man replied, "When eating pears, I'll just chew them with my teeth and not swallow, so my spleen won't be affected. When eating dates, I'll swallow them whole without chewing, and my teeth will be fine."

Another person heard this and asked, "If you swallow the date pits, they can't be digested easily. How can that be good for the spleen?"

This story tells us the idiom “Gulping down a whole jujube”. It means accepting things without thinking carefully, and understanding nothing.
