Chinese AI platforms are expected to restrict or temporarily suspend features such as photo-based problem solving during China's upcoming national college entrance exam, known as the gaokao.
Recent online discussions about whether AI tools would be restricted during the exam period has prompted media inquiries.
On Tuesday, a customer service representative for Doubao, a popular AI assistant, told reporters that while the platform itself would remain accessible, functions such as "snap-and-solve" would be disabled during the gaokao period. The representative added that specific arrangements would ultimately depend on in-app notices, as no formal announcement had yet been issued.customer service representative客服代表"snap-and-solve"拍照答疑
Similar measures have been introduced before. According to a media report published last June, users found that Tencent's AI tool Yuanbao temporarily disabled image-recognition and summarization functions during the exam period in 2025, displaying a standard message stating: "This feature is unavailable during the gaokao period."

Other major AI platforms, including Kimi and DeepSeek, also implemented comparable restrictions at that time.
Last year, the Ministry of Education also issued a reminder before the gaokao addressing the use of AI for exam predictions. The ministry said the gaokao reform has increasingly emphasized students' critical thinking, academic abilities, and analytical skills rather than rote memorization or pattern-based guessing.rote memorization死记硬背,同义表达learn by rote"The likelihood of AI or so-called experts accurately predicting exam questions is extremely low," the ministry said.往期热文回顾
