are four cities that took different approaches to make full use of their structures of the Olympics.
London, Britain

bars and a museum of Olympic history.
New York, America
学科网(北京)股份有限公司The Olympic Village in Lake Placid no longer welcomes athletes now, but instead, it houses criminals as the

buildings was the only way to get funding from the government.
Helsinki, Finland
Originally constructed in 1937, the Tennispalatsi, or Tennis Palace was first used as a basketball venue in the
1952 Summer Olympics. Now, however, it has been transformed into a popular tourist destination as a cultural

On a cold February evening, while her mother slept peacefully, a kid slipped out of her home and into the
darkened streets of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Dressed only in a T-shirt, socks and a diaper (尿布), the 3-year-
old girl wandered around the abandoned parking lots of the city's southwest side all by herself. She was cold and
almost certainly afraid, but most of all, she was not safe. Thankfully, the right person saw her out alone and knew
something wasn't right.
Gab e Botello was delivering pizzas for Villa Pizza when he saw the unattended child at around 3: 00 am. He
caught sight of her in the McConnell parking lot, but by the time he'd dropped off the food to his clients and
retraced his steps, she had disappeared into the night.
A father of three kids himself, Gab e refused to go back to work until he located the little girl. He started
pulling into empty parking lots to search for her. He finally spotted her curling up(蜷缩) between two walls at a
factory across the street.
The concerned father jumped out of his car, pulled off his coat and wrapped her up to keep her warm. He put
her into his car and gave her some water while he called 911.
The police arrived and were able to locate the kid's home, where they discovered her mother was sound asleep
and thought her daughter was, too. Gab e didn't judge the child's mother, and he hoped no one else would, either.
He said, "As a parent, I know that children are quick and don't always listen when they are told what's best for
them."
Gab e not only did the right thing by finding the child and calling the police, but his level-headed and
compassionate response to her mother warms our heart. It truly does take a village sometimes to take good care of a
child, and we're so glad this experienced dad was there when a child needed him most:

In the record of human history, few subjects have generated as much excitement, debate, and guess as artificial
intelligence (AI). This revolutionary technology, which enables machines to perform tasks that once required
human intelligence, has the potential to transform every part of our society, from healthcare and finance to
transportation and entertainment.
At its heart, AI is all about data. Massive amounts of data are fed into algorithms that learn from this data,
allowing them to make predictions, recognize patterns, and even make decisions. This "machine learning" is the
driving force behind many of the AI applications we see today, from virtual assistants like Siri and Alexa to more
advanced systems like IBM's Watson, which can analyze vast amounts of information to assist doctors in
diagnosing diseases.
The transformative potential of AI is undeniable. In the medical field, for instance, AI can assist in early
detection of diseases, predict patient outcomes, and even suggest treatment options. In finance, algorithms can
predict stock market trends, and provide personalized financial advice. In transportation, self-driving cars equipped
with AI systems promise to reduce accidents, ease traffic jams, and transform urban landscapes.
However, with great potential comes great responsibility. The rise of AI has caused debates about its ethical
implications(道德含义). The machines are only as good as the data they are fed, and there's a growing concern
about biases(偏见) being built into AI systems. For instance, facial recognition technologies, used in everything
from unlocking phones to police monitoring cameras, have come under check for misidentifying individuals based
on race or gender.
Moreover, the widespread adoption of AI could lead to significant job displacement. While new roles and
industries might emerge as a result of AI, it is not sure that these will pay off the jobs lost. This could increase
income inequalities and causes difficulties to social systems.
Another major concern is the "black box" nature of AI. Many AI systems operate in ways that even their
creators don't fully understand. This can be problematic, especially in critical applications like healthcare or
criminal justice where understanding the logic behind a decision is important.
Then there's the potential for Al to be weaponized. In the hands of evil actors, AI could be used to spread
misinformation, control public opinion, or even engage in internet warfare. The global community must come
together to set standards and regulations to prevent such misuse.
On the brighter side, many experts believe that by setting the right frameworks and investing in education and
retraining, we can use the power of AI for the greater good. By fostering(促进) a culture of continuous learning
学科网(北京)股份有限公司and staying abreast(并排的, 并肩的) of technological advancements, society can benefit from the promise of
AI while avoiding its potential dangers.
In conclusion, artificial intelligence stands as one of the most profound inventions of our time. While it offers
vast opportunities, it also poses significant challenges that we, as a society, must welcome. As we stand at this
technological crossroads, our choices will determine whether AI serves as a benefit or a harm for humanity.
28. In what way does AI acquire the capability to perform tasks that traditionally required human intelligence?
A. By programming predefined rules.
B. Through user interactions every day.
C. By swallowing and processing vast amounts of data.
D. Via regular software updates from developers.
29. In the context of the article, how does the author primarily demonstrate the effect of artificial intelligence?
A. By citing numerous statistical data.
B. By presenting both the positive potential and the challenges of AI.
C. Through personal experiences.
D. By focusing on the negative effects of AI.
30. What can we learn from the passage?
A. Al has already replaced most human jobs and is the leading cause of unemployment.
B. The global community has taken measures to prevent AI misuse.
C. The operation of many AI systems is easily understood by their creators.
D. The solving to the dilemma brought by AI needs collective efforts of our society.
31. Which of the following is the best title?
A. The Rise of Virtual Assistants: Siri and Alexa
B. Understanding the Mechanisms Behind AI Algorithms
C. Artificial Intelligence: Charting the Course for Tomorrow's Tech
D. Balancing the Potential and challenges of AI in Modern Society

第二节 (满分25分)
学科网(北京)股份有限公司"This Saturday, we'll be visiting cats at the animal shelter. If you'd like to join us, here's an application form",
said Ms. Delgado, the school librarian who had held the reading engagement event for students.
Ben loved cats and he had always wanted one, so he hurried to take an application form. Then Ms. Delgado
added, "We'll be reading to the cats and award readers who make most progress." Ben stopped. Reading aloud can
be a challenging task. Ben might feel his heart racing, his palms sweating, and his voice shaking as he read. He
might stumble over words or lose his place in the text. He might feel like everyone was watching him and judging
him. Still, he really wanted to visit the cats, so he took an application form anyway.
On Saturday, Ben arrived at the shelter with some of his classmates. "This is Max," the shelter worker told Ben
as she handed him a gray cat. Ben carried Max to a beanbag chair and
sat down. Max settled onto his lap. He took a book he'd been working on and started reading. Max, very
different from other cats walking around the room while the kids read, purred(发出呼噜声) on his lap as if he
had understood what Ben read.
"I'm glad Max is staying and listening to my reading and he is the best cat ever," Ben told Dad excitedly. "I'm
glad you two are friends," Dad said. All week, Ben's heart was filled with anxiety as he waited for Saturday to
arrive. He was eager to read to Max and the anticipation of spending time with his feline (猫咪的) friend made
him restless and nervous. When it arrived, Ben got to read to Max again.
"What if someone adopts Max?" Ben asked Dad later. "I guess you'd read to a different cat," Dad said. "But I
don't want a different cat. I wish we could adopt Max," Ben said to Dad. He knew they couldn't because Mom had
allergies(过敏). Ben loved the cat so much that he even told his next-door neighbor, Mrs. Patel, about Max.
"Max sounds like a special cat," said Mrs. Patel.
注意:
1.续写词数应为 150 左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Paragraph 1:
Week by week, Ben realized that reading seemed easier with Max's company.

Dear Mike,
How is everything going? I'm delighted to hear from you. I'm writing to tell you what subject s I'll choose in
my second year of high school. I intend to choose history, biology and chemistry. First, as a fan of historical events,
I wouldn't miss any chance to learn more about history. Also, biology is always appealing to me because of many
interesting experiments, and I'm confident I'll do well in biology. Although chemistry is known as a most
challenging subject, it's also a subject widely applied to many fields. It is believed that interest is the best teacher.
Yours sincerely,

like this. So, I entered the city college to take English classes for foreign students. I was very proud that I was going
