W:Would you like it to be washed or colored? M:No, thanks. Just leave it as it is. Text 2 W:Oh, hey, Mike. Did you go to the gym? Sam said he was going there and wanted togo to that new restaurant with you afterwards. M:I saw him at the gym, but I wasn't hungry afterwards. So, we decided to go to the movies instead. Text 3 W:I just read a newspaper article about a man who traveled around the world on $20 a day. He traveled mostly by bus and train. M:Wow, that's amazing! I would love to do something like that one day. Text 4 W:Would you like some wine? M:But I'm only 20 years old. W:If you are 20, you can drink alcohol in Japan. M:I thought it was 21, like in my country. Text 5 W:You are always throwing your books everywhere! And your shoes are all over the floor. M:OK. I'll put the books on the desk and put away the shoes in the box. W:Be quick, or we'll be late for the party. Text 6 M:Hello. Could you please help us? We'd like a map of this city. W:Yes, here you are. M:Oh, could you also give us some information about the film festival? W:Take this little book. It has all the information about the activities that will be put on during the festival. M:Thanks. And one last thing, do you have a bus schedule for East Town? W:Yes, here you are. M:Thank you very much. Text 7 M:Jenny. I'm considering changing my job. W:Why, dear? You just changed your job two months ago. M:Because the manager has many of his family members and friends work there, and treats us completely differently. I see no future in working here. W:If that is really so, that's terrible. Of course, changing your job might be a good idea, but I think you should stay a little longer to get a better understanding of the company. M:Well, maybe you are right. Text 8 M:How was your first week in China, Linda?W:It was great! My Chinese friends took me to a restaurant near my hotel for dinner last night. M:Cool! How was that? W:I really enjoyed it. It was my first Chinese eating experience. M:Yeah? Didn't you have Chinese food before in the United States? W:Oh, of course I did, but none of them was real Chinese food. M:I see. So you could use chopsticks already, right? W:Yes. But I learned about other traditional eating rules in China last night. M:Such as? W:Well, for example, Chinese people share all the dishes at the dinner table. M:Don't you do that in America? W:No. Usually everybody gets their own plate of food in America. M:Interesting. Did you find the sharing habit strange, then? W:Not at all! I thought it was very warm. Everybody was making sure that I had enough to eat. Text 9 W:Jim, let's decide what we're doing for Granny's birthday tomorrow. M:Well. Mom, I've got a problem. I was planning to come with you to Granny's, but John has asked me to play in a football match. W:Well, certainly I'm going. But you go and see her most weekends. I'm sure she won't mind if you don't go tomorrow. M:But I want to give her the present. I've bought her a cookbook. W:Good. She's going to like it. So what time is the football match? M:Well, it starts at ten o'clock, and it should be finished by about twelve thirty. W: Why not come after that? You don't have to come with me. Why don't you ride over there on your bike after the match? M:That's a good idea, but I'll be tired after the match. I could get the bus, though. W:OK. So, you can come for lunch, and then you could come back with me in the car later on. M:Actually, I've planned to meet some friends tomorrow evening in a coffee shop in town. I could go from Granny's. W:Fine. I'll call her now. Text 10 M:Most people plan expensive vacations to Disneyland or ocean trips. But not many people talk about some of the smaller and cheaper tour areas when they talk about vacations. One example is Branson, a small summer tour town famous for country music. In autumn, it's full of college students. In winter, only nearby people fill the restaurants. But in summer, it's a fantastic hidden vacation place. In 1912, anew lake was built on the nearby White River. This lake was in the middle of some beautiful mountains, which made it become popular and after that, people started building vacation homes there. Soon, on the main street appeared country music shows. Visitors began to come from nearby states. Now, the live shows have made it famous. There is a tiger protection area, a golf course, museums, hotels, campgrounds, and a park. The town is still small, and far from city life. There's no airport to bring in a large number of tourists, so they arrive by car or bus. Even though you can ride the Branson railway, it's just for touring the area. There is no passenger train service to the town.
