B Here on the side of Mount Everest, Kaji Bista has spent a decade keeping a lonely watch over a largely abandoned (放弃) scientific laboratory, expecting the world’s highest research station to once again come to life. The laboratory opened in 1990 serving as a special spot for scientists seeking to keep an eye on changing , conditions on Earth’s tallest mountain. In 2015 shifting scientific priorities cost the lab most of its funding, and its 15-person team were reduced to just Bista alone. Now, the tall, soft-spoken man spends 10 months a year working to keep the aging lab functioning. “My emotional attachment to the lab … keeps me going,” he said. Bista began working at the station in 2006. He states that it was originally established to settle a disagreement between Italian and U. S. mountaineers over whether Everest or K2 was the world’s tallest. Researchers used GPS measurements to prove Everest was taller, as the Italian climbers insisted. That work finally evolved into a plan, supported by the National Research Council of Italy (CNR) and the Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST), to develop a facility that could do much more. Climate scientist Sudeep Thakuri says that he is grateful the lab has played an important role in not only his own studies of the region’s glạciers (冰川), but also in studies of regional biodiversity, the long-range transport of pollutants, etc. In response to the appeal of scientists, Suresh Kumar Dhungel a senior scientist at NAST, reports discussions with CNR officials have recently resulted in moves to resume laboratory operations. And Agostino Da Polenza, president of Ev-K2-CNR, says he is working to regenerate lab programs. And his group plans to launch a crowdfunding campaign later to raise more money.Bista does his best to repair those aging instruments. “When I face any problem, I turn to experts in Italy and then act accordingly,” he said. But sometimes it can take months for spare parts to arrive. “I am helpless in this case,” he said. Yet, Bista hasn’t lost hope. “This laboratory will soon be restored,” he said. “This is my belief.” 24. What can we infer about the research station? A. It has set off several disagreements. B. It requires higher maintenance costs. C. It has been fully functioning for years. D. It has been lightly regarded in recent years. 25. What was the station initially intended for? A. Conducting a geographic survey. B. Studying human impact on Everest. C. Providing shelter for mountain climbers. D. Establishing harmony between Italy and the US. 26. Which of the following best describes Bista’s quality? . A Gifted and humorous. B. Brilliant and creative. C. Devoted and optimistic. D. Hardworking and adventurous. 27. What does the text mainly tell? A. Mountaineers fuel debate over Everest. B. Scientific research on Everest matters a lot. C. Scientists make the most of a lab on Everest. D. A lone caretaker struggles to keep a lab alive. C On Scotland’s west coast is the Firth of Clyde, a large home to thousands of porpoises(海豚) and one dolphin named Kylie. Kylie hasn’t been observed with other common dolphins in at least 14 years but she’s far from alone. On clear days in the Clyde, visitors to the marina can sometimes see Kylie swimming with porpoises, which are about two-thirds her size. New research suggests Kylie’s ties to porpoises are closer than scientists imagined. While a common dolphin’s vocal(发声的) ability should include a diverse range of clicks, whistles (口哨声),and etc. , Kylie doesn’t whistle. Instead, she “talks” more like porpoises, which communicate using high bursts of clicks. “The study suggests that she may be communicating with the porpoises, or at least attempting to. It’s part of a growing body of work that shows a rich world of interactions(互动) between different species of dolphins, Clearly, species in the wild interact much more than we thought,” says dolphin behaviour expert Denise Herzing. To learn more about Kylie’s relationship with the porpoises, scientists borrowed a device (装置) to record sounds of Kylie and porpoises when they met each other from 2016 to 2018. “She’s definitely identified as a porpoise,” says Nairn, who trained as a sea biologist in college. Researchers also studied thousands of dolphins clicks from the recordings carefully. While dolphins whistle very often, porpoises never do. Instead, they communicate with what are called narrow- band, high-frequency (NBHF) clicks. To hear an NBHF click you have to play it about one hundred times slower. Ever since February 2021, Kylie has been missing. Nairn says he can’t help but worry. Nairn and his workmates say they’re eager to look for and listen to Kylie as soon as the spring field season begins-and see what else she might teach us. 28. In what way are porpoises different from dolphins? A. Porpoises are bigger in size. B. Porpoises never whistle. C. Porpoises like living in groups. D. Porpoises live in fresh waters. 29. How does Kylie communicate with the porpoises? A. By touching. B. By whispering. C. By nodding her head. D. By giving out clicks. 30. What was the device used for? A. Taking clear pictures of Kylie underwater. B. Learning more about Kylie’s habitat. C. Studying the clicks made by Kylie and the porpoises. D. Examining how sea creatures interact each other. 31. What is a good way to hear an NBHF click? A. Playing it underwater. B. Playing it repeatedly. C. Playing it in a quiet place. D. Playing it a lot more slowly. D Artificial intelligence (AI) technology may soon be a useful tool for doctors. It may help them better understand and treat diseases like breast cancer in ways that were never before possible. Rishi Rawat teaches AI at the University of Southern California’s (USC) Clinical Science Center in Los Angeles. He is part of a team of scientists who are researching how AI and machine learning can more easily recognize cancerous growths in the breast.Rawat provides information about cancer cells to a computer. He says, “This data helps the machine learn. You can put the data into machines and they will learn the patterns and the pattern recognition that is important to making decisions.” David Agus is another USC researcher. He believes that machines are not going to take the place of doctors. He says, “Computers will not treat patients, but they will help make certain decisions and look for things that the human brain can’t recognize by itself.” Once a confirmed cancerous growth is removed, doctors still have to treat the patient to reduce the risk of cancer returning. The form of treatment depends on the kind of cancer. Currently, researchers take a thin piece of tissue, put it on a small piece of glass and add color to better see the cells. That process could take days or even longer. Scientists say AI can do something better than just count cells. Through machine learning, it can recognize complex patterns, or structures, and learn how the cells are organized. The hope is that machines will soon be able to make a quick identification of cancer that is free of human mistakes. Agus adds, “All of a sudden, we have the computing power to really do it in real time. We didn’t have the computing power to do this several years ago, but now it’s all changed.” The USC’s researchers are now only studying breast cancer. But doctors predict AI will one day make a difference in all forms of cancer. 32. What is the key to the learning of AI according to the text? A. The input of data. B. The categories of machines. C. Computers’ recognition ability. D. Scientists’ consistent research. 33. What is the main point of the fourth paragraph? A. Computers will replace doctors in the future. B. Doctors don’t need any help from machines. C. Machines can assist doctors in decision-making. D. David Agus doesn’t believe in the role of machines in medicine. 34. What is the AI’s advantage over traditional methods in cancer identifying? A. It will cost less money. B. It will become more effective. C. It will relieve patients’ suffering. D. It will correct personal mistakes. 35. Which word can best describe the technology? A. Promising. B. Integrated. C. User-friendly. D. Challenging. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选 项。How to Cheer up Your Friend The following tips will make your friend cheer up. Since my parents were very busy at that time, my Aunt Julia often took care of me during their absence. One rainy day, when Julia and I were heading toward home, I caught sight of an old lady wearing an orange jacket with a huge bag and a walking stick. Out of curiosity, I asked Julia, “Who is she? What is she doing with that huge bag?” Julia caught a glimpse at her, then told me, “She is called Melinda. She has been collecting garbage with that huge garbage bag in the town for several years. Nobody knows why she’s been doing it. Maybe just for fun.” Hearingher words, I couldn’t help exclaiming, “Wow! It’s so strange! Why does she find it funny to collect garbage?” Since that day, I had come across her for many times on my way home. She always carried the huge garbage bag whether it was rainy or sunny. Gradually, I didn’t find her strange for collecting garbage. Instead, I began to greet her with a smile. Two years later, I was admitted to Chicago University. To my disappointment, I often saw trash on the lawn on campus. “Why should people litter everywhere? Who is responsible for the trash?” A few days later, it occurred to me that, since nobody took responsibility for it, why not collect trash myself? That way, I could walk past the lawn without feeling guilty. Then, I took action. I always took a trash bag and collect trash on the lawn every time I walked past it. A few students also followed suit soon afterwards, keeping the school cleaner and prettier than before. One day, an idea popped into my head when I finished collecting trash — maybe we could help make the city cleaner and prettier too! Despite the thought that collecting trash in front of so many people outside school was awkward, I knew it was the right thing to do. So I decided to give it a go. 注意:1. 续写词数共150左右; 2. 续写部分分为两段,每段的开头语已为你写好; 3. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Paragraph 1: One day, I was collecting garbage outside the school. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: Then I realized that I should encourage more students to take part. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________________涉县一中 2024-2025 学年第二学期 3 月月考 高二英语(人教版)试题 参考答案 第一部分 听力(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共5小题;每小题1.5分,满分7.5分) 听下面5段对话。 6. The activity took place on Wednesday morning in the school auditorium, during which teachers of our school shared with us how to cultivate healthier eating habits. The response of teachers and students was great. During the activity, many of us raised questions and actively participated in the discussion. From my point of view, these activities are very helpful. Eating scientifically plays an important role in maintaining a healthy life. 第二节(满分25分) 【67题答案】 【答案】 One day, I was collecting garbage outside the school. Some people gave me a strange look, as if l were mad. All of a sudden, I thought of the old woman who used to collect garbage many years ago. It occurred to me that I was acting just like her. As strange as that may seem, collecting garbage was meaningful for me. Little by little, a lot of people, came to realize that I was doing voluntary service to keep the town clean, and I was complimented and thanked. Then I realized that I should encourage more students to take part. Surprisingly, they agreed and we founded a voluntary group. We gave each student a bright orange jacket with the message “Let’s Keep Our Town Cleaner!” We spent the time not just collecting trash, but also sorting it out and recycling it. The most wonderful thing was that all the people who were close to us were also doing their part! I said to myself, “This is what the old woman did for me. She has changed my life greatly.“”
