Here are places to catch it all. Tidewater Tidewater areas feature forests with unique trees such as the bald cypress. Sweet gum trees, an eastern Virginia species, have every single color on one tree. One interesting thing about swampy (沼泽的), low-lying areas in the eastern part of the state: they change earlier than traditional forests do in the surrounding landscape, likely because colder nights closer to water sources force an earlier change in those species. Southwest Virginia Thanks to a combination of tree species, high elevation (海拔) and geographic location, this region is one of the earliest to show its striking colors. Every year is a little different, depending on what has happened over the summer in terms of rainfall and heat. But generally in Southwest Virginia, the peak (巅峰状态的) time of color is going to start in the west and progress to the east. Northern Virginia Parks such as Sky Meadows State Park in Fauquier County and Prince William Forest Park boast an impressive variety of tree types that produce a picture of colors. Beech and hickories are pretty much midseason standouts, turning yellow gold all over the tree. This contrasts well with all the oaks, which are usually late season; all of them often are green while everything else is blazing. Central and Southside Virginia Central and Southside Virginia are dominated by diverse forests of coniferous (松柏科的) trees that do not change color, such as pine trees and leaf-dropping trees such as oaks and hickories. Pocahontas State Park, south of Richmond, provides nearly 8,000 acres of all-inclusive forest that towers over visitors, while High Bridge Trail State Park gives a top-down foliage view. 1. What is special about sweet gum trees in autumn? A. They change colors in late season. B. They maintain original green color. C. They take on a golden yellow color. D. They display many colors on one tree. 2. Why is the autumn foliage different each year in Southwest Virginia? A. The high elevation causes cold nights. B. The summer weather conditions vary. C. The tree species changes each year. D. The water sources affect the color. 3. Which place offers a bird’s-eye view of the autumn foliage? A. Sky Meadows State Park. B. Pocahontas State Park. C. Prince William Forest Park. D. High Bridge Trail State Park. D 2. B 3. 根据Tidewater部分中的“Sweet gum trees, an eastern Virginia species, have every single color on one tree. (枫香树是弗吉尼亚州东部的一个树种,一棵树就能呈现出所有颜色。)”可知,枫香树在秋天的特 别之处在于单棵树上能展现多种颜色。故选D项。 【2题详解】 细节理解题。根据Southwest Virginia部分中的“Every year is a little different, depending on what has happened over the summer in terms of rainfall and heat. (每年的情况都略有不同,这取决于夏季的降雨量和热 量情况。)”可知,弗吉尼亚州西南部每年秋叶景象不同,是因为夏季的天气条件存在差异。故选B项。 【3题详解】 细节理解题。根据Central and Southside Virginia部分中的“Pocahontas State Park, south of Richmond, 第4页/共22页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司provides nearly 8,000 acres of all-inclusive forest that towers over visitors, while High Bridge Trail State Park gives a top-down foliage view. (里士满以南的波卡洪塔斯州立公园拥有近 8000 英亩包罗万象的森林,这些 树木高耸于游客之上;而高桥步道州立公园则能提供自上而下的枝叶景观。)”可知,“top-down view”即 “鸟瞰视角”,高桥步道州立公园能让人鸟瞰秋叶。故选D项。 B It was the summer before junior year. I was a waitress at a little restaurant. My duties were straightforward: Take orders, deliver food and clean tables. I got really good at managing multiple tasks, and having a lot of responsibilities made me more responsible. These values and skills are what numerous studies hold up as the important reasons why teenagers should work during the summer. They’re what teachers mention when they encourage us to get jobs. I developed those skills. But I don’t think that’s the main benefit high school students get from working. So much happened in the interstitial (空隙的) time and spaces between our roles of waitress, cook, and customer. This is where I think the value of a high school job lies: learning how to form community with people I never would have otherwise known. High school students spend about seven hours a day in classes, then often stay afterward for school-sponsored sports or activities. It’s not necessarily a bad thing to be wrapped up in school. But what I find is that a job can serve as a relief from the academic tasks of high school. I think high school students generally attach more importance to high school education to be admitted into colleges, thus becoming more tense and willing to consume more time to study. I also think that the lack of boredom comes into play. With phones and the Internet, teens never have to be bored again. Why get a sometimes-boring job to ease boredom? But the people I met at the restaurant taught me that you can become friends with those decades older than you and strangers who have none of the same interests or hobbies as you do. They taught me that you can wildly disagree with someone and still respect them, still learn from them, and still love them. 4. What does the author value most about high school students working? A. Connecting with various people. B. Fulfilling teachers’ expectations. C. Developing multitasking abilities. D. Building a sense of responsibility. 5. How did the author find her job compared to school life? A. It was equally stressful. B. It felt like a welcome break. C. It helped improve her grades. D. It was physically challenging. 6. What does paragraph 5 mainly talk about? A. The academic performance of high school students. B. The ways high school students socialize at school. C. The common hobbies among high school students. D. The reasons for high school students not working. 7. What is the main purpose of the text? A. To advise on how to relieve boredom. B. To stress the development of job skills. C. To highlight the benefits of student jobs. D. To discuss the pressure of academic tasks. A 5. B 6. D 7. 根据第三段中的“This is where I think the value of a high school job lies: learning how to form community with people I never would have otherwise known. (我认为高中工作的价值就在于此:学会如何与那 些我原本不可能认识的人建立联系。)”可知,作者认为高中生工作最有价值的地方是能与各种各样的人建 立联系。故选A项。 根据第四段中的“But what I find is that a job can serve as a relief from the academic tasks of high school.(但我发现,工作可以缓解高中的学业压力。)” 根据第五段中的“I think high school students generally attach more importance to high school education to be admitted into colleges, thus becoming more tense and willing to consume more time to study. I also think that the lack of boredom comes into play. With phones and the Internet, teens never have to be bored again. Why get a sometimes-boring job to ease boredom? 通读全文,尤其是第二段中的“These values and skills are what numerous studies hold up as the important reasons why teenagers should work during the summer. They’re what teachers mention when they encourage us to get jobs. I developed those skills. But I don’t think that’s the main benefit high school students get from working. (这些价值观与技能,正是众多研究认为青少年应在暑期工作的重要原因。它们也是老师鼓励 我们找工作时会提到的点。我确实培养了这些技能,但我认为这并非高中生从工作中获得的主要益处。)” 和第三段“So much happened in the interstitial (空隙的) time and spaces between our roles of waitress, cook, and customer. This is where I think the value of a high school job lies: learning how to form community with people I never would have otherwise known. (在服务员、厨师和顾客这些角色之间的空隙时间与空间里,发生了很多 事。我认为高中阶段工作的价值就在于此:学会如何与那些原本根本不可能认识的人建立联系。)”可知, 文章主要目的是强调学生工作的益处,不仅是技能提升,更有人际交往等方面的收获。故选C项。 C Millions of people in South Asia celebrate Holi. The festival is observed as a national holiday in India. The noisy festival sees people take part in diverse celebrations of the end of winter and the victory of good over evil. Holi has its origins in Indian mythology and legend and symbolizes a time of rebirth. It is now a powerful occasion for harmony, where misunderstandings and conflicts are momentarily forgiven. The true spirit of Holi thrives on playful mischief (淘气) and collective joy. The streets become a stage for a playful battle, where the only rule is to join the chase and fun. If you’re caught up in the Holi festivities in India, you can either stay indoors or be prepared for your clothes to be ruined. Across the country, people, mostly dressed in all white clothes, celebrate the festival by throwing pigment powder (颜料粉末) at each other. Children, resting on rooftops and balconies, throw water balloons filled with colored pigments at passers-by. It is this tradition that earns Holi the name of “the Festival of Colors”. Other than a festival of colors, other celebrations vary significantly from place to place in India. In Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, women playfully chase men with sticks while the men are not allowed to fight back, thus giving the festival its name — Lathmar Holi, or Stick Holi. In Rajasthan, people twist wet clothes into ropes and use them to strike others. In Varanasi, people come to the streets in crowds, cursing (咒骂) the evil loudly and freely. In rural areas, Holi is even more lively, with celebrations sometimes lasting for over a month. In states like Bihar, people sing songs praising spring, throwing mud at each other. In many parts of India, people also light large bonfires the night before the festival to show the destruction of 第7页/共22页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司evil and victory of good. Families gather around the flames to sing, dance and make a heartfelt wish for the coming year. 8. What do we know about Holi? A. It is considered as a time to strengthen relationships. B. Its celebration is exactly the same throughout India. C. Tourists are advised to keep away from the festivities. D. It originally came from a historical event in Rajasthan. 9. How do people across India mainly celebrate Holi? A. By lighting up large bonfires at night. B. By singing traditional songs. C. By throwing colored powder at others. D. By wearing colorful clothes. 10. What does the author want to do in paragraph 3? A. Describe changes in Holi activities. B. Explain the influence of the festival. C. Compare Holi traditions of different times. D. List regional differences of Holi traditions. 11. What can be a suitable title for the text? . A A History of Holi: From Myth to National Holiday B. Colors, Mud and Sticks: The Many Faces of Holi C. Beyond Colors: A Unique Celebration in Rural Holi D. A Colorful Warning: How to survive the Holi Festival 【答案】8. A 9. C 10. D 11. 根据第一段中“It is now a powerful occasion for harmony, where misunderstandings and conflicts are momentarily forgiven.(现在,这是一个促进和谐的强大场合,误解和冲突暂时得到原谅。)” 故选A。 根据第二段中“Across the country, people, mostly dressed in all white clothes, celebrate the festival by throwing pigment powder (颜料粉末) at each other.(在全国范围内,人们,大多穿着全白的衣服, 通过互相投掷颜料粉末来庆祝这个节日。)” 通读第三段,尤其是根据第三段中“Other than a festival of colors, other celebrations vary significantly from place to place in India.(除了“色彩节”的身份,印度各地的庆祝方式还存在巨大差异。)” 通读全文,尤其是第一段“Millions of people in South Asia celebrate Holi. You won’t hear the plant’s cry because it’s in the ultrasonic (超声波的) range — too high-pitched for human ears — but, for decades, scientists have been using special devices to listen. For the first time, a team of researchers has documented that insects can hear and interpret plants’ sound pain signals. The scientists wanted to know if these ultrasonic sounds were being picked up by insects, so they observed the Egyptian leafworm moth (蛾), which lays its eggs on plant leaves. When the scientists presented female moths with a choice between a dried-out tomato plant and a fresh one, the moths gathered to the fresh plant. The team wanted to understand whether the sounds from the dried-out plant were a factor in the moths’ selection. The researchers set an area consisting of two boxes. In one box, they played recordings of plants’ pain sounds, while the other box was silent. In the experiment, moths turned to the noisy box, and scientists theorize that it’s because the sounds suggested that they would find a living plant there. This preference vanished when the scientists deafened the moths, leading to the conclusion that moths were listening to the plants before they made their choices. In another experiment, the researchers again offered the female moths a selection of two tomato plants. This 第9页/共22页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司time, both plants were watered, but one was near a speaker playing ultrasonic stress sounds. The result was that almost all the moths picked the quieter plant. Together, these experiments told the researchers that the moths were listening to and recognizing sounds made by plants, and that they were using that acoustic (听觉的) information to make decisions about those plants for their reproduction. Plant acoustics is an area of growing interest for scientists, and primary work suggests that sound-making is widespread. Future research could investigate the use of acoustic monitoring to understand how stress affects plant health and could help with agricultural pest (害虫) control. 12. What can insects do according to the first paragraph? A. Talk with stressed plants. B. Help plants reduce stress. C. Understand plants’ sounds. D. produce ultrasonic signals. 13. What does the underlined word “vanished” in paragraph 3 mean? A. Strengthened. B. Disappeared. C. Continued. D. Unfolded. 14. What happened in the experiment with two watered plants? A. Moths avoided the plant near sounds. B. Moths made sounds near the speaker. C. Moths caused the plants to make sounds. D. Moths no longer chose plants through sounds. 15. What might future research focus on? A. How insects make sound signals. B. Why plants produce stress sounds. C. Plant sounds’ potential application in farming. D. Approaches of stopping plants to make sounds. 【答案】12. C 13. B 14. A 15. C 【解析】 【导语】这是一篇说明文。研究首次证实昆虫(如蛾类)能听见并解读植物受压时的超声波信号,还会据 此选择产卵植物,未来研究或应用于农业病虫害防治等领域。 【12题详解】 细节理解题。根据第一段“For the first time, a team of researchers has documented that insects can hear and interpret plants’ sound pain signals.(首次有研究团队证实,昆虫能够听到并解读植物发出的“疼痛”信号)” 可知,昆虫能够了解植物发出的声音。故选C。 【13题详解】 词句猜测题。根据划线词上文“The researchers set an area consisting of two boxes. In one box, they played recordings of plants’ pain sounds, while the other box was silent. His teachers admired his intelligence, and his parents were proud of his general knowledge. However, one thing constantly worried everyone who saw his schoolwork: his handwriting. His classwork was a messy sight, filled with scribblings (潦草书写) and words that seemed to tumble (跌倒) over each other. Both his teacher Miss DeVoe and his parents warned him about it. “Noah, your writing must be as clear as your thinking,” Miss DeVoe often said, pointing to his notebook and shaking her head. His parents decided to take action. They bought him several copybooks with smooth, inviting pages and dotted lines to trace (描摹). “Practice for just thirty minutes every day, Noah. It will make a big difference,” his mother encouraged him. However, Noah seldom took it seriously. In his mind, a stubborn (执拗的) thought kept repeating, “I know the answers, so why does it matter how I write them? The important thing is the knowledge inside my head, not how it looks on paper.” He found the copybooks boring. During his mid-term holidays, while he had promised to practice, he instead spent his time reading adventure stories, pushing the copybooks to a dusty corner of his desk. Finally, the day to collect his exam results arrived. Noah was confident and even excited. He had attempted every question. But when he saw his report card, his heart sank. The scores were much lower than he had expected. A wave of confusion and disappointment washed over him. How could this be? He thought, his stomach tightening, “I wrote everything correctly!” Feeling wronged, he begged his parents. “Please, ask my teachers to show you my answer sheets. I know I did well!” Seeing his genuine sadness, his parents requested the papers from the school. 注意: (1) 续写词数应为150个左右; 第20页/共22页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司(2) 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 When they looked through the answer sheets, the problem became painfully clear. ________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________________________ Hearing what they said, a new, clear thought formed in Noah’s mind. ________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】范文 When they looked through the answer sheets, the problem became painfully clear. His answers, though factually correct, were nearly impossible to read. Words overlapped like tangled vines, letters were squeezed together or stretched unevenly, and some sentences bled into the margins. His father pointed to a crucial math answer, sighing, “Noah, look here. The number ‘7’ looks like a ‘1’, and the ‘9’ is so cramped it resembles a ‘4’. How could the teacher mark it correctly?” His mother gently added, “Even your brilliant thoughts get lost in this jungle of scribbles. The reader struggles to follow your ideas.” Hearing what they said, a new, clear thought formed in Noah’s mind. He realized that messy handwriting wasn’t just about looks — it was like locking his knowledge away where no one could find it. His confidence in his answers meant nothing if they couldn’t be understood. Silently, he walked to his desk, brushed the dust off the neglected copybooks, and opened one. For the first time, he carefully traced the dotted lines, focusing on each curve and line, determined to build a bridge between his bright mind and the paper. 词汇激活 行为类 ①打开:open/unfold ②集中:focus on/concentrate on ③意识到:realize/be aware of 情绪类 ①沉默地:silently/speechlessly 的 ②出色 :brilliant/outstanding 【点睛】[高分句型1] He realized that messy handwriting wasn’t just about looks—it was like locking his knowledge away where no one could find it.(运用了that引导宾语从句) [高分句型2] For the first time, he carefully traced the dotted lines, focusing on each curve and line, determined to build a bridge between his bright mind and the paper.(运用了现在分词作状语) 第22页/共22页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司
